The purpose of the present study was to investigate the feasibility and usefulness of three-dimensional (3D) multislice computed tomography (CT) angiography with maximum intensity projection (MIP) and volume rendering (VR) in six dogs with clinical and sonographic findings suggestive of portosystemic shunt. Furthermore, we aimed to estimate the diameter of the portal vein and shunt vessels. MIP and VR reconstructions were performed for each patient and the origin and insertion of all shunt vessels were detected. In addition, 3D reconstructions allowed excellent depiction of vascular morphology and topography. All diagnoses and vessel measurements were confirmed by surgery. 3D multidetector CT angiography is a promising, noninvasive, and accurate method of evaluating dogs with suspected portosystemic shunts.  相似文献

Objective— To report unilateral correction and initial stabilization with external skeletal fixation (ESF) of metatarsal rotation in 4 immature Bernese Mountain Dogs.
Study Design— Case series.
Animals— Bernese Mountain Dogs (n=4).
Methods— The limb deformity, including degree and origin of the deformity at the level of the proximal intertarsal joint and involvement of the central tarsal bone, was characterized by clinical and radiographic assessment. Unilateral surgical correction of the most severely affected limb was performed by disrupting the ligaments and debriding the articular cartilage of the proximal intertarsal joint to allow for derotation of the deformity and arthrodesis of the proximal intertarsal joint stabilized with either circular or linear ESF.
Results— Initial metatarsal rotation of the corrected limbs ranged from 60° to 80° of external rotation (mean, 72.5°). Three limb corrections were stabilized with circular ESF and 1 with a biplanar linear ESF. Implants were removed at the time of radiographic bony union (range, 7–10 weeks; mean, 8.6 weeks). Residual deformity was minimal, ranging from 6° to 15° (mean, 11°). Two minor complications (loosening of 1 pin, serous drainage from 1 pin) resolved with treatment.
Conclusion— Correction of rotational deformity of the pes with intertarsal arthrodesis yielded an excellent clinical outcome, with only a mild residual deformity.
Clinical Relevance— Rotational metatarsal deformities can have a significant impact on gait, ambulation, and appearance. Correction of these deformities and stabilization with ESF and intratarsal arthrodesis can yield an excellent functional outcome, with improved gait and ambulation.  相似文献

LAPAROSCOPIC ULTRASONOGRAPHY IN SIX DOGS   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The aim of this study was to describe the technique of laparoscopic ultrasonography in six dogs with intra-abdominal disease. Investigation of the abdominal cavity was undertaken initially in each dog by laparoscopy alone. After exploration and visualization of a diseased organ, a 7.5 MHz microconvex ultrasound probe was introduced into the abdomen through a laparoscopic cannula for videoguided ultrasound examination. Laparoscopic ultrasonography allows core biopsy or needle aspiration to be performed by guiding the needle into nonsuperficial lesions, where videoendoscopic guidance alone is not enough. In addition, color Doppler ultrasonography is useful to examine the vascular pattern to minimize or eliminate complications when a biopsy is performed.  相似文献

Retrotransposons, a type of DNA fragment that can mobilize itself on genome, can generate genetic variations and develop for molecular markers based on the insertion polymorphism. Zinc finger proteins (ZNFs) are among the most abundant proteins in eukaryotic animals, and their functions are extraordinarily diverse and particularly important in gene regulation. In the current study, bioinformatic prediction was performed to screen for retrotransposon insertion polymorphisms (RIPs) in six ZNF genes (ZNF2, ZNF3, ZNF7, ZNF8, ZNF10 and ZNF12). Six RIPs in these ZNFs, including one short interspersed nuclear element (SINE) RIP in intron 1 and one long interspersed nuclear element 1 (L1) RIP in intron 3 of ZNF2, one SINE RIP in 5′ flanking region and one SINE RIP in intron 2 of ZNF3, one SINE RIP in 3′ UTR of ZNF7 and one L1 RIP in intron 2 of ZNF12, were discovered and their presence was confirmed by PCR. The impact of the SINE RIP in the first intron of ZNF2, which is close to the core promoter of ZNF2, on the gene activity was investigated by dual-luciferase assay in three cell lines. Our results showed that the SINE insertion in the intron 1 of ZNF2 repressed the core promoter activity extremely significantly (P<0.01) in cervical cancer cells and porcine primary embryonic fibroblasts (HeLa and PEF), thus SINE may act as a repressor. This SINE RIP also significantly (P<0.05) affected the corrected back fat thickness in Yorkshire pigs. The corrected back fat thickness of individuals with SINE insertion in the first intron of ZNF2 was significantly (P<0.05) higher than that of individuals without SINE insertion. In summary, our data suggested that RIPs play important roles in the genetic variations of these ZNF genes and SINE RIP in the intron 1 of ZNF2 may provide a useful molecular marker for the screening of fat deposition in the pig breeding.  相似文献

A study was conducted in the Central-western region of Venezuela to investigate the lifetime performances of 7918 Carora and 3501 Holstein cows under two different levels of management (low and high) and covering a period from 1961 to 1995. Traits analysed were: herd life, productive life, number of calvings, lifetime milk yield, days in lactation over all lactations and daily milk yield. In Carora cows born from 1961 to 1986 a decrease in herd life, productive life and number of calvings was observed, whereas cows born between 1971 and 1972 showed the lowest lifetime productive traits. Performances of Holstein cows born in the 1981–1986 period were analysed and all traits decreased during this time period. In low level herds, Holsteins remained longer (98.5 months vs. 83.3 in herd life; 69.5 vs. 54.3 months in productive life) and had higher lifetime yield (20 925 vs. 18 589 kg) than those in high level herds, but daily milk yield was lower (8.4 vs. 11.0 kg/day). All lifetime performances were higher for Carora cows under the high level management: 116.8 vs. 112.1 months of herd life, 81.8 vs. 77.1 months of productive life, 5.8 vs. 5.2 calvings, 1616 vs. 1299 days of lactation, 16 194 vs. 11 912 kg of milk over all lactations and 6.5 vs. 4.6 kg milk/day. Survival estimates for year of birth were more variable in Holsteins than in Carora cows. Management influenced survival in Holsteins only, the low level showing higher values.  相似文献

The development of a new class of non-hormonal contragestational agents provided a derivative, 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-striazole|5,1-alisoquinoline (DL 717-IT or L 12717), with the qualities needed for application in the veterinary field as a post-coital pregnancy-terminating agent. Single intramuscular injections of this compound arrest pregnancy over a wide period of gestation in the bitch. A dose of 2.5 mg/kg was found to be very well tolerated and highly effective (100 per cent) when administered between the day of mating and the 15th day of pregnancy. The desired effect was not accompanied by uterine disorders or other unwanted effects. This non-hormonal agent appears to have several real advantages over the only other drugs (oestrogens) available in veterinary practice for the termination of unwanted pregnancies in bitches.  相似文献

In the search for second generation post-coital pregnancy terminating agents belonging to the class of 2-phenyl-triazole[5,1-a]isoquinolines, the contragestational profile of (1,1'-biphenyl)-4-yl-1,2,4-triazole[5,1-a]isoquinoline, referred to as L 14105, was investigated in hamsters, rats, and bitches. Following subcutaneous or intramuscular administration in oily vehicles, L 14105 shows a very high anti-fertility activity in the three animal species, being from 1.8 to 2.5 times more effective than the parent drug, DL 717-IT. Unlike DL 717-IT, L 14105 possesses a high activity when administered by the oral route. The results obtained in the bitch make it confirm its potential use as a new orally active agent for the interruption of unwanted pregnancies.  相似文献
