The water extract of guar meal ( Cyamopsis tetragonolobus) was examined for its foamability. Compared with egg white, the extract showed an extraordinary foam stability: no drainage after 3 h of standing in contrast to 65% drainage for egg white at the same protein concentration. The acid-precipitated protein from the extract was responsible for the high foamability and designated guar foaming albumin (GFA). The foaming activity of GFA was 20 times higher than that of egg white. GFA consisted of two subunits with molecular masses of 6 and 11 kDa linked to each other through disulfide bonds. The cleavage of disulfide bonds in GFA affected the foamability only slightly. GFA remarkably decreased the surface tension of water at low protein concentrations. Immunoblotting analysis demonstrated that GFA did not react to the antisera from allergic patients against plant food. These results suggest that GFA serves as an effective food additive in developing protein-stabilized foam. 相似文献

A 3-year irrigation trial provided basic information on the response of persimmon (Diospyros kaki cv. Triumph) water use and development to irrigation levels. Constant experimental factors applied to recommended “baseline” crop factors resulted in ratios of irrigation (I) to FAO56 reference crop evapotranspiration (ET0) ranging from 0.35 to 1.14. Vegetative and reproductive growth, sap flow, stem water potential (SWP), and local climate were monitored. An overall increase in yield and vegetative growth in response to irrigation was found, which suggests a potential yield increase for higher irrigation levels (40 tons/ha for annual irrigation of 1,000 mm). At high irrigation, the yield response curve levelled off and the marginal contribution of additional water declined. The up to threefold increase in number of fruits with irrigation, with no influence on natural abscission, suggests that differences in fruit quantities stem from response to irrigation at the earlier growth stages. Mean fruit size and fruit quality, as indicated by the ratio of rejected fruit, increased with irrigation up to I/ET0 of ~0.8. Relative yield increased linearly with relative transpiration. However, post-harvest quality was not influenced. SWP, sap flow, and non-transpirable water fractions indicated that the seasonal irrigation tables were not well tuned. Effects of supporting materials during vitrification procedure on the morphologies
of preantral follicles of pig ovaries were assessed. Ovarian cortical sections of
prepubertal pigs were randomly allocated to 5 groups. The sections were vitrified
ultrarapidly with 5 different vitrification devices. The sections were put on 4 fine
needles (Cryosupport), on a thin copper plate, or on a carbon graphite sheet or were
sandwiched between copper plates or between carbon graphite sheets before cooling.
The cooling and warming rates with the graphite sheets were significantly higher than
those with the copper plates (P<0.05). A total of 3,064 follicles were analyzed
following HE staining after vitrification with 5 different devices. The morphologies
follicles vitrified on the Cryosupport or on the graphite sheet were well preserved
compared with those vitrified on the copper plate or between copper plates
(P<0.01). The morphologies of follicles vitrified between copper plates were
mostly damaged (P<0.05). Taken together, good thermally conducting material
supports follicle morphologies of ovaries cryopreserved with ultrarapid
