The objectives of this study were to evaluate the efficacy of (1) administering ceftiofur hydrochloride in dairy cows with calving-related disorders to prevent metritis and (2) a combination of GnRH and PGF for the treatment of clinical endometritis, under Argentinean dairy farming conditions. Cows at high risk (HRC) for metritis (dystocia, RFM >12 h postpartum, hypocalcaemia, twins, or stillbirth) were randomly assigned to receive either 1.1 mg/Kg of ceftiofur hydrochloride on three consecutive days (HRC treated group HRCT, n?=?110) or remained untreated (HRC control group HRCC, n?=?126). Cows with low risk (LRC, no calving-related disorders, n?=?868) did not receive any treatment (LRC group, n?=?868). All cows were examined for metritis between days 4 and 10 and for clinical endometritis between 24 and 30 days postpartum. The body condition score (BCS) was recorded at both examinations. Cows with endometritis at days 24 to 30 postpartum received either 1.5 mg of D-cloprostenol (PGF; n?=?129) or 100 μg of GnRH followed by D-cloprostenol after 7 days (GnRH+PGF, n?=?119). There was no overall effect of treatment on the incidence of metritis or on time to pregnancy. Treatment, however, reduced the incidence of metritis in cows with high BCS (HRCT?=?24.0 %, HRCC?=?38.5 %) but had no effect in cows with low BCS (HRCT?=?38.7 %, HRCC?=?37.5 %). The proportion of pregnant cows by days in milk was greater (P?<?0.01) in LRC group compared with that of the HRCT and HRCC groups. No significant differences were found between groups PG and PG+GNRH. GnRH+PGF treatment, however, tended (P?=?0.06) to increase pregnancy rate in cows with a moderate loss of BCS (76.5 vs 65.2 %) but tended to reduce pregnancy rate (54.5 vs 76.0 %) in cows with a more pronounced loss in BCS (>0.75 points).  相似文献

An exhaustive study of the phenolic composition of almond ( Prunus dulcis (Mill.) D.A. Webb) skins was carried out in order to evaluate their potential application as a functional food ingredient. Using the HPLC-DAD/ESI-MS technique, a total of 33 compounds corresponding to flavanols, flavonols, dihydroflavonols and flavanones, and other nonflavonoid compounds were identified. Peaks corresponding to another 23 structure-related compounds were also detected. MALDI-TOF MS was applied to characterize almond skin proanthocyanidins, revealing the existence of a series of A- and B-type procyanidins and propelargonidins up to heptamers, and A- and B-type prodelphinidins up to hexamers. Flavanols and flavonol glycosides were the most abundant phenolic compounds in almond skins, representing up to 38-57% and 14-35% of the total quantified phenolics, respectively. Due to their antioxidant properties, measured as oxygen-radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) at 0.398-0.500 mmol Trolox/g, almond skins can be considered as a value-added byproduct for elaborating dietary antioxidant ingredients.  相似文献

A five‐year experiment tested the response of above‐ground net primary production (ANPP) and plant functional groups to manipulations in residual dry matter (RDM), reflecting typical grazing practices in Californian annual grasslands. The RDM treatments were 225, 560, 900 and 5000 kg ha?1 with the latter treatment representing no grazing by livestock. ANPP in autumn, winter and spring showed a strong year × RDM interaction indicating that, in periods with higher herbage mass, the highest RDM treatment, representative of no grazing, was usually more productive. However, the opposite pattern was observed for the autumn period when ANPP was lowest. Random effects models indicated that at most 0·20 of the variation in ANPP for any of the three seasons stemmed from RDM treatments, with the remaining variation partitioned among temporal and spatial dimensions or not explained. Cover of grass species was highest under the highest RDM treatment in four of the five years, and lowest for the lowest RDM treatment compared with the two intermediate RDM treatments in the two years with the highest herbage masses. Cover of forbs and clover was higher on the lowest RDM treatment and lower on the highest RDM treatment than on the intermediate treatments. The results suggest that residual RDM values above 550 kg RDM ha?1 are appropriate for annual grasslands with a mean annual precipitation of more than 400 mm and offer a compromise between herbage use and promotion of future productivity and diversity, but direct control of ANPP and composition via management is not attainable because the environmental factors are predominant.  相似文献

The physiological significance of 5-(3',4'-dihydroxyphenyl)-γ-valerolactone, an important metabolite derived from the catabolism of flavan-3-ols by gut microbiota, has been often overlooked due to the lack of the commercial standard. In the present work, this metabolite has been chemically synthesized, and its analytical parameters and antioxidant capacity have been determined in comparison to other chemical analogues [isomer 3-(3',4'-dihydroxyphenyl)-δ-valerolactone and γ-valerolactone] and other structurally related compounds [(+)-catechin, (-)-epicatechin, and 3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-propionic acid]. The synthesized compound was also used to perform a targeted analysis in samples collected during the in vitro fermentation of a grape seed flavan-3-ol extract with human fecal microbiota from three healthy volunteers. The time-course formation of 5-(3',4'-dihydroxyphenyl)-γ-valerolactone revealed large interindividual differences among volunteers, with concentrations ranging from 3.31 to 77.54 μM at 10 h of fermentation. These results are further discussed in view of the scarce reports quantifying 5-(3',4'-dihydroxyphenyl)-γ-valerolactone in in vitro fermentation studies, and pharmacokinetic and intervention studies.  相似文献

Pregnancy rate to the Ovsynch protocol can be improved if cows are presynchronized (i.e., two PGF(2alpha) injections given 14 days apart and the second injection of PGF(2alpha) given 12 days prior to the first GnRH of the Ovsynch program) so that a greater proportion of cows during the Ovsynch protocol ovulate to the first GnRH injection and have a CL at PGF(2alpha) injection. Pregnancy rates were normal in anestrous cows (39.6%) if they ovulated to both injections of GnRH. Estradiol cypionate (ECP) can be used to replace GnRH to induce ovulation as a modification of the Presync-Ovsynch program (i.e., Presync-Heatsynch). Pregnancy rates after TI were 37.1+/-5.8% for Presync-Ovsynch compared to 35.1+5.0% for Presync-Heatsynch. Use of ECP to induce ovulation was an alternative to GnRH in which greater uterine tone, ease of insemination and occurrence of estrus, improved acceptance by inseminators. A GnRH agonist (Deslorelin; 750 microg) implant inserted at 48 h after injection of PGF(2alpha), as a component of the Ovsynch protocol, induced ovulation, development of a normal CL and delayed follicular growth until 24 d after implant insertion. Utilization of Deslorelin implants (450 microg and 750 microg) to induce ovulation compared to GnRH (100 microg) within the Ovsynch protocol resulted in 27 d pregnancy rates (GnRH 100 microg, 39%; Deslorelin implants 450 microg, 40% and 750 microg, 27.5%) with 12.7%, 5.0% and 9.5% embryonic losses by 41 d of pregnancy, respectively. Induction of an accessory CL with injection of hCG on day 5 after insemination improved conception rates by 7.1%. Bovine somatotrophin injected at first insemination following a Presync-Ovsynch program in cycling-lactating dairy cows increased 74 days pregnancy rates (57.1%>42.6%).  相似文献
