Soybean cultivars carrying the `long juvenile trait' show a delayed flowering response under short day conditions. The incorporation
of this character into genotypes of agronomic interest may allow a broader range of sowing dates and latitudes for a single
cultivar adaptation. The objective of this work was to identify molecular markers linked to the juvenile locus in soybean.
Experiments were carried out using two pairs of near isogenic lines(NILs) differing in the presence of the long juvenile trait,
and RAPD markers. Four hundred primers were first screened to find polymorphism associated with the trait. Additional differences
between NILs were sought by digesting the genomic DNA with five restriction enzymes. Polymorphic fragments detected between
NILs were tested for linkage to the juvenile locus in the corresponding F2 segregating populations. Marker bc357-HaeIII was linked (χ2L = 46.316) to the juvenile locus with an estimated recombination frequency of 0.13 ± 0.03in one of the genetic backgrounds
studied. The fragment was cloned, sequenced and converted into a SCAR marker. Moreover,bc357-HaeIII was used as RFLP probe. Both, SCAR and RFLP generated markers linked to the juvenile locus in the two genetic backgrounds
analysed. Results presented in this work can be utilised for both, the localisation of the gene associated with the character
and for tagging the juvenile trait in soybean breeding programs.

A comprehensive investigation of polar stratospheric clouds was performed on 25 January 2000 with instruments onboard a balloon gondola flown from Kiruna, Sweden. Cloud layers were repeatedly encountered at altitudes between 20 and 24 kilometers over a wide range of atmospheric temperatures (185 to 197 kelvin). Particle composition analysis showed that a large fraction of the cloud layers was composed of nitric acid trihydrate (NAT) particles, containing water and nitric acid at a molar ratio of 3:1; this confirmed that these long-sought solid crystals exist well above ice formation temperatures. The presence of NAT particles enhances the potential for chlorine activation with subsequent ozone destruction in polar regions, particularly in early and late winter. 相似文献

The aim of this paper was to present the main results obtained in Cuba on the effects of feeding tropical trees and shrubs
on rumen methanogenesis in animals fed with low quality fibrous diets. More than 20 tree and shrub foliages were screened
for phytochemicals and analyzed for chemical constituents. From these samples, seven promising plants (Samanea saman, Albizia lebbeck, Tithonia diversifolia, Leucaena leucocephala, Trichantera gigantea, Sapindus saponaria, and Morus alba) were evaluated for methane reduction using an in vitro rumen fermentation system. Results indicated that the inclusion levels
of 25% of Sapindo, Morus, or Trichantera foliages in the foliages/grass mixtures (grass being Pennisetum purpureum) reduced (P < 0.01) methane production in vitro when compared to Pennisetum alone (17.0, 19.1, and 18.0 versus 26.2 mL CH4/g fermented dry matter, respectively). It was demonstrated that S. saman, A. lebbeck, or T. diversifolia accession 23 foliages when mixed at the rate of 30% in Cynodon nlemfuensis grass produced lower methane compared to the grass alone. Inclusion levels of 15% and 25% of a ruminal activator supplement
containing 29% of L. leucocehala foliage meal reduced methane by 37% and 42% when compared to the treatment without supplementation. In vivo experiment with
sheep showed that inclusion of 27% of L. leucocephala in the diet increased the DM intake but did not show significant difference in methane production compared to control diet
without this foliage. The results of these experiments suggest that the feeding of tropical tree and shrub foliages could
be an attractive strategy for reduction of ruminal methanogenesis from animals fed with low-quality forage diets and for improving

Pre-loading bovine sperm with cholesterol prior to freezing is known to increase cryosurvival, though the timing of capacitation in these sperm has not been evaluated. The objective of this study was to determine if there is a potential delay in capacitation timing in these sperm due to the increased cholesterol content. Flow cytometric evaluation was utilized to assess viability, and stain technology to assess acrosome intactness (Propidium Iodide/FITC-PNA), intracellular calcium levels (Propidium Iodide/FLUO 3-AM) and membrane fluidity (Merocyanine 540/YO-PRO-1). Cholesterol-loaded cyclodextrin (CLC) (2 mg/mL) improved post-thaw viability to 61% from 45% in control sperm (p < .05). The addition of ionomycin (0.05 mM) induced capacitation in sperm by 1 h, resulting in increased intracellular calcium and increased acrosome reaction, and consequently viability loss by 3 h. Treatment with CLC significantly decreased membrane fluidity in sperm (p < .05). In conclusion, CLC-treated sperm required 1 h more to capacitate when compared with non-treated sperm based on percentage of live cells with high membrane disorder (p < .05). Increased cryosurvival and viability over time was observed, but longer time to capacitate may hinder fertilization capacity and/or require adjustments to timing of in vitro fertilization. 相似文献

This short communication describes the diagnosis, treatment, and clinical course of a domestic short-haired cat with diaphragmatic hernia in which the herniated structure in the thoracic cavity contained a mummified fetus. The cat was pregnant when rescued from the street and, days later, gave birth without abnormalities. Some months later, during an ovariohysterectomy, an abnormal localization of the uterus was observed, and at that time the case was referred to our center. A thoracic radiograph showed an abnormal thoracic mass cranial to the heart. The main suspicion was the presence of a thoracic hernia with the uterus herniated and containing a mummified fetus. A thoracotomy was performed to confirm the nature of the mass and reduce the diaphragmatic hernia. Although this clinical case is quite rare, a mummified fetus can be observed in thoracic hernias. 相似文献
