The biological significance of the tremendous variation in proportions of oligosaccharides and lactose among mammalian milks is poorly understood. We investigated milk oligosaccharides of the striped skunk (Mephitis mephitis) and compared these results to other species of the clade Mustelida. Individual oligosaccharides were identified by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. In the striped skunk, six oligosaccharides were identified: isoglobotriose, 2′‐fucosyllactose, A‐tetrasaccharide, Galili pentasaccharide, 3′‐sialyllactose and monosialyl monogalactosyl lacto‐N‐neohexaose. Four of these have been found in related Mustelida and the other two in more distantly related carnivorans. The neutral and acidic oligosaccharides derive from three core structures: lactose (Gal(β1–4)Glc), lacto‐N‐neotetraose (Gal(β1–4)GlcNAc(β1–3)Gal(β1–4)Glc) and lacto‐N‐neohexaose (Gal(β1–4)GlcNAc(β1–3)[Gal(β1–4)GlcNAc(β1–6)]Gal(β1–4)Glc). 相似文献

Fingerling Cromileptes altivelis of less than 50 g have been shown to require feeds of 50–56% crude protein (CP) and 9–15% lipid. The requirements of larger, market‐size fish have not been reported. A total of 324 hatchery‐produced C. altivelis were weight sorted into three groups of 136, 175 and 225 g start weight and equally (12 seacage?1) and randomly distributed to floating net seacages in accordance with a 3 × 3 factorial arrangement of CP (42%, 47% or 53%; estimated digestible CP of 40%, 46% or 52%) and lipid (8%, 12% or 16%; equivalent to estimated digestible energy (DE) contents of 14.0, 15.8 or 17.5 MJ kg?1). Changes in dietary CP and lipid content were achieved at the cost of wheat flour by proportionally varying the protein mixture (essentially a 0.62:0.22:0.16 ratio of fish meal, mysid meal and casein respectively) and oil mixture (a 2:1 ratio of fish oil and soybean oil respectively). Fish were fed twice daily to satiation for 180 days. There was no significant (P>0.05) interaction between the main effects of dietary protein and lipid for any growth, nutrient retention or whole‐body composition measurements. Increasing dietary CP significantly improved the survival rate (80.6%, 88.9% and 87.0%), specific growth rate (SGR; 0.24%, 0.28% and 0.31% day?1), feed conversion ratio (FCR; 2.77, 2.21 and 2.00) and DE retention (18.2, 21.3 and 23.2%), respectively, but did not significantly affect digestible protein retention. Increasing dietary lipid increased SGR (0.25, 0.29 and 0.29% day?1) and the whole‐body lipid (and energy) composition, and reduced the survival rate (87.0%, 88.9% and 80.6%), respectively, but FCR and retentions of digestible protein and DE were not significantly affected. These results indicate that humpback grouper of 150–400 g require a dietary specification of not less than 51% digestible protein (~53% CP), 10–12% lipid and digestible protein:DE of 31–32 g MJ?1 for optimal growth. 相似文献

ABSTRACT In this study, the cryopreserved spermatozoa of Epinephelus lanceolatus were transported using a novel method involving dry ice as the medium of preservation and a Styrofoam box. Five conditions were investigated for the cryopreserved sperm under different dry ice exposure times of (24, 48, and 72) h corresponding to treatment 1 (T1), 3 (T3), and 5 (T5), respectively. Meanwhile, the remaining treatments (T2 and T4) involved the same exposure to dry ice for (24 and 48) h followed by re-immersion into liquid nitrogen (LN). The performance of the cryopreserved spermatozoa of the hybrid grouper (E. fuscoguttatus ♀ × E. lanceolatus ♂) was evaluated through fertilization and hatching trials. The results showed no significant difference in fertilization for all five treatments. However, significantly poorer hatching rates than the fresh sperm were observed for spermatozoa exposed to dry ice after 48 h. This study recommends the use of the proposed method to successfully transport E. lanceolatus spermatozoa for the production of hybrid groupers via artificial insemination. 相似文献

Previous structural characterizations of marsupial milk oligosaccharides have been performed in the tammar wallaby, red kangaroo, koala, common brushtail possum and the eastern quoll. To clarify the homology and heterogeneity of milk oligosaccharides among marsupial species, which could provide information on their evolution, the oligosaccharides of wombat milk carbohydrate were characterized in this study. Neutral and acidic oligosaccharides were isolated from the carbohydrate fractions of two samples of milk of the common wombat and characterized by 1H‐nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The structures of six neutral saccharides were found to be Gal(β1‐4)Glc (lactose), Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐4)Glc (3'‐galactosyllactose), Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐4)Glc (3',3”‐digalactosyllactose), Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐4)Glc, Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)[Gal(β1‐4)GlcNAc(β1‐6)]Gal(β1‐4)Glc (galactosyl lacto‐N‐novopentaose I) and Gal(β1‐3)[Gal(β1‐4)GlcNAc(β1‐6)]Gal(β1‐3)[Gal(β1‐4)GlcNAc(β1‐6)]Gal(β1‐4)Glc (lacto‐N‐novooctaose), while those of six acidic saccharides were Neu5Ac(α2‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐4)Glc. (sialyl 3'‐galactosyllactose), Neu5Ac(α2‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐4)Glc (sialyl 3',3”‐digalactosyllactose), Neu5Ac(α2‐3)Gal(β1‐3)[Gal(β1‐4)GlcNAc(β1‐6)]Gal(β1‐4)Glc (sialyl lacto‐N‐novopentaose a), Gal(β1‐3)[Neu5Ac(α2‐3)Gal(β1‐4)GlcNAc(β1‐6)]Gal(β1‐4)Glc (sialyl lacto‐N‐novopentaose c), Neu5Ac(α2‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐4)Glc,, Neu5Ac(α2‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)[Gal(β1‐4)GlcNAc(β1‐6)]Gal(β1‐4)Glc and Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)[Neu5Ac(α2‐3)Gal(β1‐4)GlcNAc(β1‐6)]Gal(β1‐4)Glc.
