The adsorption of chlortoluron and atrazine was measured on a range wheat straw residues that had been heated for periods of 1–5 min at temperatures up to 700°C and and on three soils that had been heated at up to 250°C for 1–5 min. Adsorption of both compounds by straw ash increased with increasing temperature of pretreatment. Atrazine adsorption by any of the soils was not changed markedly chlortoluron absorption was increased with two of the three soils. The results are discussed in terms of the changes in organic functional groups, that are likely to have been produced by the treatment, in relation to the adsorption mechanisms thatmay operate on the two compounds. Adsorption of chlortoluron by mixtures of ash and soil was less than the sum of the adsorption capacities of each component on its own in the cases of two out of three soils. It is concluded that the effect of straw burning on herbicide performance in the field will be variable but could be substantial. The distributions of two herbicides and two radioactive ions in field plots at two sites were determined at periods up to 187 days following surface applications in the spring. The results demonstrated the variability characteristic of field situations. At one site some fluometuron moved a short distance down the profile but after 187 days most remained above 6 cm whereas at the other site there was essentially no movement below 3 cm. At both sites simazine was almost entirely confined to the top 3 cm. The adsorption characteristics of the two compounds are similar so the greater mobility of fluometuron is probably a consequence of its greater solubility, Measurements of 36Cl? indicated a significant movement of water through the 30 cm depth studied. 144Ce3+ used as a tracer of soil particles was of similar mobility to simazine. In general the movement of chloride and the two herbicides can be interpreted in terms of the concept of mobile and immobile fractions of soil water in which a proportion of the mobile water does not reach equilibrium with solutes in the bulk of the soil. Soil structural effects may therefore be more important than adsorption in controlling the movement of solutes and redistribution in association with soil particles can be significant. A parallel laboratory experiment showed that the results from a standard leaching column procedure did not necessarily indicate field performance.  相似文献

Wettable powder formulations of simazine, metribuzin and linuron and a suspension concentrate of simazine were sprayed on to soil particles which were either at a water content equivalent to pF 2·5 or air dry. Air dry samples were then wetted to pF 2·5 immediately or after 24 h. Soil solutions were removed using a pressure membrane apparatus at intervals up to 96 h after wetting. In each case the concentration in soil solutions expressed after 96 h following application to wet soil, or dry soil wetted immediately, were close to those predicted on the basis of Freundlich adsorption isotherm data obtained in slurry equilibrium conditions. There were, however, some differences after shorter periods. Concentrations were always lower in solutions obtained from air dry soil that was not wetted for 24 h. After 96 h simazine and metribuzin concentrations were about 50% of those obtained following application to wet soil, while that of linuron was about 25%. Differences of this size may be large enough to affect mass transfer phenomena and phytotoxicity. It seems likely that suspension of these herbicides sprayed in formulations on to wet soil dissolved in soil water at least as fast as would be predicted theoretically.  相似文献

This study was conducted to characterize the daily profile of testosterone secretion and its mean concentrations in the four seasons as well as to evaluate the semen characteristics and testicular biometry of Mangalarga Marchador stallions throughout the year in a tropical region. Three stallions were submitted to semen collections and evaluation of testicular biometry every 14 days along a year. Blood samples were collected once at the middle of each season, in a 20‐min interval during 24 hr in order to evaluate the testosterone secretion profiles among seasons. Testosterone concentrations along the day were higher at the beginning of the afternoon (from 12:00 to 15:00 hr), but a circadian secretion was not clearly observed. Mean testosterone concentrations did not differ among seasons (p > .05), but a pattern of secretion along the day showed variations with higher concentrations in the afternoon during the winter. Ejaculate volume was higher during summer; however, sperm motility decreased in summer and spring. Total sperm in ejaculate, sperm morphology and testicular biometry kept constant along the year showing no differences among the seasons. The results demonstrated that in a tropical region, reproductive aspects of stallions did not show a clearly defined seasonal variation, and months of autumn and winter were not unsuitable for reproduction of the males.  相似文献

For migratory birds, early arrival and physical condition on the breeding grounds are important determinants of reproductive success and fitness. Differences in arrival times often exceed a month, and later arriving individuals are often in poorer condition. Habitat-specific isotopic signatures indicate that the quality of winter habitats occupied by American redstarts (Setophaga ruticilla) determines their physical condition and spring departure dates, which in turn result in variable arrival schedules and condition on temperate breeding grounds. These findings link events in tropical winter grounds with those in temperate breeding areas for a migratory songbird and provide evidence that winter habitats may be limiting.  相似文献
