The present study was conducted to characterize the in vitro antimicrobial activities of 3 essential oils [oregano, rosemary, and a commercial blend of essential oils (BEO)] against pathogenic and nonpathogenic bacteria and to evaluate their effects on broiler chicken performances. The chemical composition of the essential oils was determined using the gas chromatography interfaced with a mass spectroscopy. The disc diffusion method, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), and the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) were applied for the determination of antimicrobial activities of essential oils. In vivo study, a total of seven hundred fifty 1-d-old male broiler chickens were assigned to 6 dietary treatment groups: basal diet (control; CON), CON + 44 mg of avilamycin/kg (A), CON + 100 mg of rosemary essential oil/kg (ROS), CON + 100 mg of oregano essential oil/kg (OR), CON + 50 mg of rosemary and 50 mg of oregano essential oils/kg (RO), and CON + 1,000 mg of BEO/kg (essential oil mixture, EOM). The essential oils isolated from rosemary and oregano were characterized by their greater content of 1,8-cineole (49.99%) and carvacrol (69.55%), respectively. The BEO was mainly represented by the aldehyde (cinnamaldehyde) and the monoterpene (1,8-cineole) chemical groups. The results of the disc diffusion method indicated that the rosemary essential oil had antibacterial activity (P ≤ 0.05) against only 3 pathogenic bacteria, Escherichia coli (8 mm), Salmonella indiana (11 mm), and Listeria innocua (9 mm). The essential oil of oregano had antimicrobial activities (P ≤ 0.05) on the same bacteria as rosemary but also on Staphylococcus aureus (22 mm) and Bacillus subtilis (12 mm). Oregano essential oil had greater (P ≤ 0.05) antimicrobial activities against pathogenic bacteria than rosemary essential oil but they had no synergism between them. The BEO showed an increased antimicrobial activity (P ≤ 0.05) against all studied bacteria (pathogenic and nonpathogenic bacteria) except for Lactobacillus rhamnosus. The supplementation of the basal diet with avilamycin or essential oils improved (P ≤ 0.05) broiler chicken BW, BW gain, and G:F compared with the CON diet. There were no differences in growth performances among birds fed A, ROS, OR, RO, or EOM diets. In general, essential oils contained in rosemary, oregano, and BEO can substitute for growth promoter antibiotics. Although the 3 essential oils had different antimicrobial activities, they exhibited the same efficiency in broiler chickens. 相似文献

Volatile composition of virgin olive oil (VOO) from six Tunisian new cultivars was evaluated using headspace solid-phase microextraction method coupled to GC–MS and GC–FID. Various chemical classes were identified such as aldehydes, alcohols, esters, ketones, terpenes and carboxylic acids. The results showed that the most important contributors to olive oil aroma are C6 aldehydes. These compounds are biogenerated from polyunsaturated fatty acids through the lipoxygenase pathway. Furthermore, they pointed out the predominance of the linolenic acid oxidation over linoleic acid one. The main volatile compounds present in the oil samples were C6 derivatives such as (E)-hex-2-enal, (E)-hex-2-enol and hexanol. In addition to C6 compounds, the aroma of the studied VOOs contains reasonable amounts of various classes of C5 components. The tested oil samples showed different volatile profiles. Some components seem to occur exclusively in a specific oil samples and, consequently, their presence might be initially used to establish compositional differences. All results put in evidence that olive oil aroma compounds accumulate differently according to the cultivar. 相似文献

The Merguellil catchment (central Tunisia) is a typical Mediterranean semi‐arid basin, which suffers from regular water shortage aggravated by current droughts. Over recent decades, the continuous construction of small and large dams and soil and water conservation works (i.e. contour ridges) have taken place within this watershed. However, little is known about the effect of these water‐harvesting systems on the water balance components of arid or semi‐arid basins. In this paper, we present the results of a study, which evaluates the impact of the contour ridges on water balance components and erosion at basin scale by using the soil and water assessment tool model (SWAT). Large dams were modelled as reservoirs, small dams as ponds and contour ridges as potholes that fill with water and increase the percolation into the aquifer. The model predicts that contour ridges produce annually a reduction of 32 and 21% in surface run‐off and river discharge, respectively, and an increase in aquifer recharge of 50%. At the same time, retention of a large proportion of entrained sediment (26%) was modelled. 相似文献

Purpose
Ichkeul National Park, NW Tunisia, is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Garaet El Ichkeul Lake is known for its seasonal variability in water level and salinity. In recent decades, the waterbody has been affected by the construction of new hydraulic structures. To reduce the impacts of dams and to maintain the sustainability of the ecosystem, a sluice was built at the outlet of the lake, and it operated for the first time in 1996. This paper describes an investigation of recent sedimentation dynamics in Ichkeul Lake, determined by radiometric dating of sediment cores.Materials and methods
A sediment core was collected with a UWITEC gravity corer at the deepest, central part of the lake in August 2009. Specific activities of unsupported lead-210 (210Pb) and caesium-137 (137Cs) were measured in the core, enabling calculation of recent sediment accumulation rates (SAR). Published radiometric data from nearby sediment cores, collected in 1997 and 1982, provide a comparison.Results and discussion
The measured excess 210Pb inventory was 5300?±?500?Bq?m?2, leading to an estimation of constant flux of 165?±?16?Bq?m?2?yr?1, a value higher than the best estimate for local atmospheric fluxes (123?±?12?Bq?m?2?yr?1) and the flux estimated from the core collected in 1982 (48?Bq?m?2?yr?1). The 137Cs inventory was 3550?±?120?Bq?m?2, two times higher than the historical 137Cs atmospheric deposition in the area. The 137Cs profile displayed a distinct peak, but the 137Cs depth-distribution did not follow the pattern expected from atmospheric deposition. Application of the constant rate of supply (CRS) model, with the reference point method, produced a chronology and SAR values comparable to those found in previous work. The whole 137Cs profile was quantitatively reconstructed from the historical records of atmospheric deposition, using the system-time-averaged (STA) model.Conclusions
The CRS and STA models provide consistent sediment accumulation results for the whole data set, considering the time resolution of the chronology (~6?years) and analytical uncertainties. Results from cores sampled in 1982, 1997 and 2009 reveal an increasing SAR trend, from ~0.25?g?cm?2?yr?1 in the early 1940s to ~0.67?g?cm?2?yr?1 at present. In the 13?years since installation of sluice gates at Tinja, SAR in the central Ichkeul Lake has not declined. Thus, if siltation continues at the present rate, shallowing of the lake will seriously affect the hydromorphology and ecology of this important lake. 相似文献5.

The physicochemical and stability properties as well as the fatty acid, triacylglycerol, sterol, and triterpenic dialcohol compositions of Tunisian olive oil varieties were analyzed. On the basis of our results, we classified all of the monovarietal oils into the extra virgin category. Oleic and linoleic acids were the most useful fatty acids to discriminate three cultivars, Neb Jmel, Chétoui, and Ain Jarboua, from the others. Of the six monovarietal virgin olive oils analyzed, the main triacylglycerols were OOO, POO, PLO plus SLL, and OLO, which was expected given the high oleic acid and low linoleic and linolenic acids content observed in total fatty acids. In total, these accounted for more than 80% of the total HPLC chromatogram peak area. The main sterols found were beta-sitosterol, Delta5-avenasterol, and campesterol. The statistical analysis showed significant differences between oil samples, and the obtained results showed a great variability in the oil composition between cultivars, which is influenced exclusively by genetic factors. 相似文献

The Tataouine province in southern Tunisia is well known for its severe pedoclimatic conditions. Using solid phase microextraction (SPME) and gas chromatography (GC), coupled to flame ionization and mass spectrometer detectors, we characterized virgin olive oils from Chemlali Tataouine, Fakhari Douirat, Zarrazi Douirat, and Dhokar Douirat varieties, which grow in the harsh arid region of Tataouine. Significant differences in the proportions of volatile constituents from oils of different varieties were detected. The results showed that lipoxygenase products were generally the major metabolites of the volatile fraction, and (E)-Hex-2-enal was the principal compound characterizing the olive oil headspace for most samples, though the absolute levels varied greatly, never exceeding 76.45 and 32.16%, respectively. The C5 compounds were unusually abundant, comprising 42.97% of the total lipoxygenase products and a remarkably high level of penten dimers. Each autochthonous variety could thus be differentiated according to the percentage of each metabolite. 相似文献

This study was conducted on an irrigated area of southern Italy to analyze the current operation of a large-scale irrigation
delivery system and the effects of the operation procedures on crop irrigation management and aquifer salinity increase. The
area is characterized by relatively high levels of groundwater salinity in the summer that are probably due to intensive groundwater
pumping by farmers during periods of peak irrigation demand, with the resulting seawater intrusion. Two alternative delivery
schedules, namely the rotation delivery schedule and the flexible delivery schedule, referred to as RDS and FDS, respectively,
were simulated using a soil-water balance model under different combinations of crop, soil and climatic conditions. The first
set of simulations concerned the farm irrigation management constrained by the rotational delivery used by the local water
management organization. The second scenario simulated the farm irrigation schedule most commonly used by growers in the area
for maximizing crop yields. Based on crop irrigation management under RDS and FDS, two alternative operational scenarios were
also developed at the scheme level and then compared for evaluation. Winter and summer salinity maps of the aquifer were developed
by interpolating salinity measurements of the groundwater samples collected during the 2006 irrigation season. From these
maps, a close relationship can be inferred among delivery schedule, aquifer exploitation and salinity increase, which justifies
the need for implementing FDS that might reduce the groundwater demand for irrigation. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate minor components (phenolic compounds, α-tocopherols and pigments), fatty acid contents and oxidative stability of virgin olive oil of Spanish cultivars: Arbequina, Arbequina I-18 and Arbosana and Greek cultivar: Koroneiki grown in Northern Tunisia under irrigated high-density plantation system. Thus, in order to have better knowledge about the quali-quantitative profiles of these components in samples obtained from the same collecting seasons and the same processing techniques. Fourteen phenolic compounds were detected and quantified by SPE RP-HPLC. Dialdehydic form of elenolic acid linked to tyrosol and hydroxytyrosol, oleuropein and ligstroside aglycones were the main components in all samples. Pinoresinol was the most abundant component in lignan fraction. These phenolic compounds, α-tocopherols, total phenols and o-diphenols showed significant correlations with oxidative stability. Furthermore, the majority of the studied analytical parameters were greatly influenced by the cultivar–environment interaction. Antioxidants are the chemical substances that reduce or prevent oxidation. The present study aimed to assess in vitro and ex vivo antioxidant activities of four acetonic extracts Tunisian halophytes (Suaeda fruticosa, Suaeda pruinosa, Suaeda mollis and Suaeda maritima). Various experimental models were used for characterization of antioxidant activities of shoot extracts. Eventually, the promising specie was subjected to phenolic identification using RP-HPLC. The analyzed shoot extracts exhibited that antioxidant activities varied considerably as function of species. The highest DPPH scavenging ability was found in S. mollis with the lowest IC50 value (2.5 μg/ml), followed by S. pruinosa, S. fruticosa and S. maritima. The same tendency was observed with ferric reducing power. Concerning β-carotene bleaching assays and total antioxidant activity, results showed that S. fruticosa exhibited the highest antioxidant ability against the inhibition of β-carotene bleaching, and a better total antioxidant capacity. Moreover antioxidant capacities using ORAC method and a cell based-assay showed that S. mollis, S. fruticosa, and S. pruinosa exhibit statistically similar antioxidant activity. The identification of phenolic compounds in S. mollis extract using RP-HPLC revealed that 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid and rutin hydrate were the major molecules. These results suggested that Suaeda species showed a variability of their antioxidant activities. 相似文献
