This study investigated the efficacy of a one-dose porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) subunit vaccine based on the PCV2 Cap protein expressed in a baculovirus system on two different farms at which a history of porcine circovirus-associated disease (PCVD) was present. Morbidity, mortality, average daily weight gain, carcass weight, PCV2 load in serum and vaccine immunogenicity were assessed. Serology to porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae was performed. A double-blind, randomised, and controlled field trial was performed distributing 818 piglets between two treatment groups. At inclusion (weaning at 21 ± 3 days of age), 408 animals (group B) received a 2-mL intramuscular dose of Porcilis PCV(?) (vaccinated group). Controls (group A, 410 pigs) received 2 mL of the adjuvant Diluvac Forte(?) intramuscularly. Weights were recorded at inclusion and at 12 and 26 weeks of age, and the average daily weight gain (ADWG) was calculated. The carcass weights of the pigs from farm 2 were recorded at slaughter (274 days old). All dead animals (died or culled) underwent autopsy to classify them as PMWS-affected or not. At each farm, blood samples were taken from 22 pigs/group for serologic studies. A beneficial effect was found after vaccination with a single dose of a PCV2 Cap vaccine against PCVD. The vaccination reduced the mortality rate and morbidity, reduced PCV2 viremia and viral load, improved productive performances (e.g. ADWG: +70 g/day between 12 and 26 weeks of age when viremia and the specific disease occurred) as well as carcass weight at slaughter age (+4.5 kg). These effects were associated with virologic and clinical protection from the immunogenicity of the vaccine measured as activation of both a humoral and a cellular immune response.  相似文献

Investigations using available data sought to guide short-term management decisions regarding the needs of northern spotted owl in the high Cascade Mountains of Oregon. Landscape attributes and pattern indices were measured and tested for identification of areas likely to contain northern spotted owl nests. Predictive models indicating planning standards were developed. Most landscape ecological indices were not useful. Results indicate the owl favors landscapes dominated by patches that meet definitions of late seral forest nesting habitat. The owl optimally nests in such patches at least 570 hectares in size. Landscapes with some edges, particularly around nesting habitat patches evidently do not adversely affect the owl, perhaps because they provide prey. Landscapes with extensive edges, particularly between openings and forests not suitable for nesting, are not as likely to be selected. The results are largely consistent with the owl's recovery plans, provide guidance for management, and require refinement through additional research, particularly to better determine home range sizes.  相似文献

The present work investigated the occurrence of Giardia infection in Chinchilla lanigera reared in three Italian breeding facilities and determined their role as potential zoonotic reservoir. One hundred and four fecal samples were tested for the presence of Giardia spp. cysts using a Direct Fluorescent Assay (DFA). A high positivity rate (39.4%) was found despite all animals were asymptomatic at the time of sampling. Thirty-one positive samples were genetically characterized by sequence analysis of the ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 region of the Giardia ribosomal DNA. Assemblages B (29 isolates) and C (two isolates) were identified. These results showed that Giardia infection can be common in chinchillas, thus spurring further molecular epizootiological studies of the infection to assess the zoonotic potential or host specificity of their isolates, to determine the source of infections, to identify the routes of transmission, and to control the infection among animal populations.  相似文献

The pattern of human dermatomycoses has changed in Italy during this century, as a progressive escalation of zoophilic dermatophytes over anthropophilic dermatophytes has been experienced: dermatophytozoonoses now prevail over other dermatophytoses (by anthropophilic and geophilic mycetes). Urban dermatophytozoonoses are caused mainly byMicrosporum canis and are an important problem in young people in cities. Many cats and dogs are symptomless carriers of the fungus. Rural dermatophytozoonoses are caused byTrichophyton verrucosum andT. mentagrophytes. They are an important economic problem in calf, rabbit and laboratory animal farms. They are an occupational disease of agricultural workers: family members may also be affected.
Kurzfassung Im letzten Jahrhundert hat sich das Vorkommen von Dermatomykosen bei Menschen in Italien sehr verändert, seitdem man festgestellt hat, dass die zoophylen Dermatophyten die Uberhand über die antropophylen gewinnen, d.h. augenblicklich gibt es mehr Dermatophytozoonosen als andere, von antropophylen und geophylen Pilzen hervorgerufene Dermatophytosen. Die in Städten vorkommenden Dermatophytozoonosen werden hauptsächlich von Microscarum canis bewirkt; sie stellen ein wichtiges Problem für die Stadtjugend dar. Viele Katzen und Hunde sind symptomlose Träger dieser Pilze. Die Dermatophytozoonosen ländlicher Gebiete werden durchTrichophyton verrucosum undT. mentagrophytes hervorgerufen. Sie stellen ein ökonomisches Problem für die Aufzucht von Kälbern, Kaninchen und Labortieren dar. Sie müssen ebenfalls als Berufskrankheit der Landarbeiter angesehen und können auch auf Familienmitglieder übertragen werden.

Resume Le tableau des dermatomycoses s'est modifié en Italie au cours de ce siècle au fur et à mesure qu'on constatait que les dermatophytes zoophiles prenaient le pas sur les anthropophiles: les dermatophytozoonoses l'emportent actuellement sur les cutres dermatophytoses (mycètes anthropophiles et géophiles). Les dermatophytozoonoses urbaines sont causées principalement parMicrosporum canis et constituent un problème important chez les jeunes dans les villes. Beaucoup de chats et chiens sont des porteurs asymptomatiques du champignon. Les dermatophytozoonoses rurales sont provoquées parTrichophyton verrucosum etT. mentagrophytes. Elles représentent un problème économique important chez le veau, le lapin et dans les élevages d'animaux de laboratoire. Elles constituent une maladie professionnelle des travailleurs agricoles; les membres de leur famille peuvent être également affectés.

Riassunto Nel corso di questo secolo la tavola delle dermatomicosi umane si è modificata in Italia a seguito di un progressivo aumento dei dermatofiti zoofili in relazione e quelli antropofili: le dermatofitizoonosi attualmente sono più frequenti delle altre dermatofitosi (miceti antropofili e geofili). Le dermatofitozoonosi urbane sone causate principalmente dalMicrosporum canis e costituiscono un problemaeconomico importante per la popolazione giovane della città. Molti gatti e cani sono portatori asintomatici di questo fungo. Le dermatofitozoonosi rurali sono provocate dalTrichophyton verrucosum e dalT. mentagrophytes. Esse rappresentano un problema importante per il vitello, il coniglio e per gli allevamenti di animali da laboratorio e costituiscono una malattia professionale per i lavoratori agricoli e i membri delle loro famiglie.
