The movement and availability of Zn from six organic Zn sources in a Typic Xerorthent (calcareous) soil were compared by incubation, column assay, and in a greenhouse study with maize (Zea mays L.). Zinc soil behavior was studied by sequential, diethylenetriaminepentaacetate, and Mehlich-3 extractions. In the incubation experiment, the differences in Zn concentration observed in the water soluble plus exchangeable fraction strongly correlated with Zn uptake by plants in the greenhouse experiment. Zinc applied to the surface of soil columns scarcely moved into deeper layers except for Zn-ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA) that showed the greatest distribution of labile Zn throughout the soil and the highest proportion of leaching of the applied Zn. In the upper part of the column, changes in the chemical forms of all treatments occurred and an increase in organically complexed and amorphous Fe oxide-bound fractions was detected. However, the water soluble plus exchangeable fraction was not detected. The same results were obtained at the end of the greenhouse experiment. Significant increases were found in plant dry matter yield and Zn concentration as compared with the control treatment without Zn addition. Increasing Zn rate in the soil increased dry matter yield in all cases but Zn concentration in the plant increased only with Zn-EDTA and Zn-ethylenediaminedi-o-hydroxyphenyl-acetate (EDDHA) fertilizers. Higher Zn concentration in plants (50.9 mg kg(-)(1)) occurred when 20 mg Zn kg(-)(1) was added to the soil as Zn-EDTA. The relative effectiveness of the different Zn carriers in increasing Zn uptake was in the order: Zn-EDTA > Zn-EDDHA > Zn-heptagluconate >/= Zn-phenolate approximately Zn-polyflavonoid approximately Zn-lignosulfonate.  相似文献

The physicochemical properties of pigmented (Midorimochi, Jeokjinjubyeo, and Heukmichalbyeo) and non-pigmented (Hwayoungbyeo) rice varieties were investigated. Starch from non-pigmented rice consisted mainly of large polyhedral granules that were more loosely packed than those of the non-pigmented sample. Pigmented rice showed higher linoleic acid content (36–40%) and hydrolysis rate (63–79%) but lower oleic acid content (35–39%), blue value (0.05–0.17), and viscosity values than the non-pigmented one. Significantly higher mineral content, blue value, and pasting and viscosity values were observed in the Jeokjinjubyeo sample compared to those of the other pigmented rice samples. The Midorimochi variety, on the other hand, exhibited the highest total amino acid (816.82 ng mg−1) and sugar (0.15–3.35 μg g−1) contents and the lowest pasting and viscosity values. No substantial difference in the X-ray diffraction pattern was observed among the samples. Results of this study could serve as baseline information for the quality evaluation of three pigmented rice cultivars and provide a better understanding of their potential uses and food industry applications.  相似文献

The effect of silk protein with different fibroin/sericin compositions on body weight and lipid metabolism in high fat-fed mice was investigated. The animals were given experimental diets for 6 weeks: normal control (NC), high fat (HF) and high fat diet supplemented with F100 (pure fibroin, HF-F100), F81 (81:19 fibroin/sericin, w/w, HF-F81) or F50 (50:50 fibroin/sericin, w/w, HF-F50). The silk protein-fed mice showed markedly reduced body weight and enhanced lipid profile relative to the HF group. In general, the amount of body fat, triglyceride and total plasma cholesterol levels, atherogenic index and free fatty acid level tended to decrease, while the HDL-cholesterol level increased, with increased amount of sericin in the diet. This hypolipidemic effect was partly due to increased fecal lipid excretion, inhibition of lipogenesis and regulation of adipokine production. These findings illustrate that silk protein, particularly sericin, may be beneficial in the prevention of high fat diet-induced hyperlipidemia and obesity.  相似文献

In experimental bile obstruction in dogs, the most sensitive change in blood plasma composition is the increase in alkaline phosphatase activity which occurs after eight hours. Maximum alkaline phosphatase activities (approximately 100 times normal values) occur between the fifth and the 14th day. The increase in activity is accompanied by smaller increases in gamma-glutamyl transferase activity, and total bilirubin concentration also increases to a smaller extent and less regularly. Cholestasis also induces an intense cytolysis which is demonstrated mainly by increases in glutamate dehydrogenase and alanine amino transferase activities which are more intense and lasting than those induced by 0.5 ml/kg carbon tetrachloride.  相似文献

Glucoamylase activity can interfere with the measurement of alpha-amylase activity in cat plasma. This can be avoided by the use of "blocked" substrates such as 4,6-O-benzylidene-4-nitrophenyl-alpha-D-maltoheptaoside. In 241 healthy cats, reference values were 586 +/- 241 U/L (m +/- standard deviation) at 30 degrees C; age, sex, overnight fasting, and mild hemolysis had no significant effect.  相似文献

Context

Field inventory plots which usually have small sizes of around 0.25–1 ha can only represent a sample of the much larger surrounding forest landscape. Based on airborne laser scanning (LiDAR) it has been shown for tropical forests that the bias in the selection of small field plots may hamper the extrapolation of structural forest attributes to larger spatial scales.

Objectives

We conducted a LiDAR study on tropical montane forest and evaluated the representativeness of chosen inventory plots with respect to key structural attributes.

Methods

We used six forest inventory and their surrounding landscape plots on Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and analyzed the similarities for mean top-of-canopy height (TCH), aboveground biomass (AGB), gap fraction, and leaf-area index (LAI). We also analyzed the similarity in gap-size frequencies for the landscape plots.

Results

Mean biases between inventory and landscape plots were large reaching as much as 77% for gap fraction, 22% for LAI or 15% for AGB. Despite spatial heterogeneity of the landscape, gap-size frequency distributions were remarkably similar between the landscape plots.

Conclusions

The study indicates that biases in field studies of forest structure may be strong. Even when mean values were similar between inventory and landscape plots, the mostly non-normally distributed probability densities of the forest variable indicated a considerable sampling error of the small field plot to approximate the forest variable in the surrounding landscape. This poses difficulties for the spatial extrapolation of forest structural attributes and for assessing biomass or carbon fluxes at larger regional scales.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the quality of raw and cooled semen in Icelandic stallions. Experiments were performed using seven stallions aged between 3 and 19 years. From each stallion, six ejaculates were collected, and semen quality was determined. Thereafter, the semen was split into eight equal parts and processed with and without centrifugation using the extenders INRA 82-egg yolk, INRA 96, GENT, and Equi-Pro to a final concentration of 30 × 106 sperm/mL. The extended semen was then cooled in an Equitainer, where it was stored for 24 hours, and subsequently refrigerated for another 24 hours at 5°C. Immediately after dilution as well as after 24 and 48 hours storage, sperm motility was analyzed using computer-assisted sperm analyzer, and viability was assessed after dual DNA staining with SYBR-14 in combination with propidium iodide. The results show that the stallion had a significant (P < .05) influence on all variables evaluated in raw semen, and mean (±SEM) values of 43.4 ± 4.3 mL for the volume, 193.0 ± 17.0 × 106 sperm/mL for the concentration, 6.7 ± 0.5 × 109 for total sperm and 73.5 ± 2.1% for total sperm motility, 48.7 ± 2.0% for progressive motility, and 65.3 ± 2.0% for rapid cells were measured. In the cold-stored semen, all variables were significantly (P < .05) influenced by the stallion, extender, and storage time (48 hours). Except for Equi-Pro, all extenders examined were suitable for cooled semen preservation. For storage of more than 24 hours, centrifugation and removal of the seminal plasma were advantageous for all extenders with the exception of Equi-Pro.  相似文献

Gamma-glutamyl transferase distribution was studied in 10 ewes and 10 lambs; in both groups kidney was the most active organ, followed by pancreas, liver and lungs. In kidney and liver, GGT was bound mainly to cellular structures. Blood GGT activity of 48 lambs was 44 +/- 11 iu/litre and 33 +/- 7 iu/litre of 45 ewes.  相似文献

The endogenous anabolic agents, estradiol-17 beta, progesterone and testosterone are steroids that are quickly metabolized by the liver and are not very active when administered orally. Estradiol-17 beta is excreted by the bovine in bile as free estradiol-17 alpha, and by swine, in urine, as glucuronides and sulfates. In ruminants, the primary metabolite of progesterone is pregnandiol and that of testosterone is epitestosterone. In horses, the metabolites of these compounds are primarily 17 ketosteroids. Esters of the endogenous anabolic agents are rapidly hydrolyzed and the nonesterified forms follow the same biotransformation pathways as the natural compounds biosynthesized by the animal. The exogenous anabolic agents, such as trenbolone acetate, zeranol and diethylstilbestrol, may be active by the oral route and are less readily metabolized in the liver than the endogenous anabolics. Their metabolic pathways may be complex and lead to excreted forms after glucuronide conjugation. With respect to biochemical mechanism of action, it can be assumed that the anabolics act like all steroids by way of intracellular receptors. Biotransformations could lead to more reactive molecules that may bind themselves to normal constituents of the organism. Bound metabolites are generally formed later than free metabolites, and are considered less toxic with a lower level of bioavailability.  相似文献

In the horse, gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) was found to be mainly located in the kidneys, liver and pancreas. As renal lesions are followed by a urinary escape of enzyme, it can be assumed that if there are raised serum enzyme levels then the source will be chiefly from the liver and pancreas. In the blood, GGT can be measured either in plasma or serum. Its mean level in 58 horses was 12 U/L. This level was not affected by moderate dilution or slight haemolysis and its activity was only slightly decreased by storage at--30 degrees C. The relative hepatic specificity of this enzyme and its easy measurement make it a potentially very useful measure of liver dysfunction in the horse.  相似文献
