In 2002, the Malaysian government had banned the use of the hazardous herbicide, paraquat. Most growers perceive that paraquat is the most effective herbicide and provides the fastest mode of action to control weeds. An experiment was conducted at MAB Agriculture-Horticulture, Sepang, Selangor, Malaysia, from February 2004 to February 2005 to evaluate the efficacy and ability of the less hazardous herbicides, glufosinate ammonium and glyphosate, as an alternative to the hazardous herbicide, paraquat, in controlling weeds in immature oil palm (<3 years old). The results showed that paraquat needed high rates, 600 and 800 g ha−1, to control weeds effectively. However, lower rates of glufosinate ammonium (200 g ha−1) and glyphosate (400 g ha−1) gave excellent weed control. The results showed that the efficacy of glufosinate ammonium and glyphosate were much better than paraquat. The results also showed that, with no direct contact with the plants, paraquat, glufosinate ammonium, and glyphosate had no adverse effect on the vegetative and generative growth of oil palm in this study. These results proved that the less hazardous herbicides, glufosinate ammonium and glyphosate, could be used as an alternative to paraquat to control weeds in immature oil palm.  相似文献

During the attack of a pathogen, a variety of defense-associated proteins are released by the host plant in the apoplast to impede the perceived attack. This study utilized the mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and label-free quantification method to analyze the apoplastic fluid (APF) from maize stalk and identified the proteins responsive to the Fusarium verticillioides infection. We have identified 742 proteins, and among these, 119 proteins were differentially accumulated (DAPs), i.e., 35 up-regulated, 18 down-regulated, and 66 proteins were only induced by the pathogen infection. The differentially accumulated proteins were analyzed for their Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Gene and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment. The highly enriched Biological Process (BP) term was the L-serine biosynthesis process, whereas the most enriched Molecular Function (MF) term was the cysteine-type endopeptidase inhibitor activity. It was also found that the pathways related to the biosynthesis of amino acid, biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum, and carbohydrate metabolic pathways were significantly enriched. Moreover, 61 out of 119 differentially accumulated proteins were predicted as secretory proteins. The secretory pathways analysis showed that a greater number of proteins were secreted through the conventional secretion system compared to the unconventional secretion system. The identified secreted proteins were related to a variety of pathways in defense responses including cell redox homeostasis, cell wall modification, signal transduction, carbohydrate metabolism, binding proteins (metal ion binding, RNA binding and heme-binding), maintenance and stabilization of other proteins, indicating a complex response from the plant to the fungal infection. Our data suggested that a number of host proteins belonging to various pathways have been modulated in the apoplastic region.  相似文献

This study was conducted to explore the role of boron (B) in seedling emergence, leaf elongation, and tillering dynamics. Boron was applied as seed priming. For priming seeds of two rice cultivars (Super Basmati and Shaheen Basmati) were soaked in B solutions having 0.001, 0.01, 0.1 and 0.5% concentrations. Substantial improvement in seedling emergence was observed from hydropriming and seed priming in 0.001 and 0.01% solutions; beyond this B concentration, emergence potential was suppressed. Seeds primed in 0.5% B solution even did not emerge. A linear increase in plant height was recorded up to 30 days from seeds primed in 0.001% solution. Similarly rate of leaf emergence and elongation and rate of tiller appearance were substantially improved in seedlings raised from seeds primed in 0.001% B solution. Overall B plays a significant role in leaf appearance, elongation and tillering dynamics of rice when used in very low concentration.  相似文献

Glasshouse experiments were conducted from March to July 2003 to determine the effects of sowing depth, and the time, duration, and depth of flooding on the emergence, survival, and growth of Fimbristylis miliacea (L.) Vahl. The treatments that were evaluated in the first experiment were three seeding depths (0, 0.5, and 1.0 cm), while in the second experiment, three flooding depths (saturated soil with no standing water and soil with water depths of 5 and 10 cm) and three flooding durations (7, 14, and 21 days from sowing) were evaluated. In the third experiment, three flooding depths (saturated soil with no standing water, and soil with water depths of 5 and 10 cm) and four flooding regimes (7, 14, 21 or 28 days after sowing [DAS]) were evaluated. Surface seeding gave the highest emergence rate compared to the 0.5 cm and 1.0 cm soil depths. A significantly higher emergence rate was recorded with the saturated conditions than with the flooded conditions. A flooding duration of ≥ 14 days showed a clear trend of reduced emergence with increasing flooding depth. A significantly higher survival rate, plant height, root length, number of leaves, and dry matter were recorded at soil saturation followed by the 5 cm and 10 cm flooding depths when flooding was simulated at 7 and 14 DAS. When the flooding was delayed to 21 and 28 DAS, the 10 cm flooding depth was required to suppress this weed. The results provide sufficient evidence to confirm that from deeper seed burial (1 cm sowing depth), flooding depths of ≥ 5 cm of durations of 14 and 21 days and at the onset of flooding within 14 DAS were effective in suppressing the emergence and growth of F. miliacea .  相似文献

Ten barnyard grass ( Echinochloa crus-galli var. crus-galli ) ecotypes collected from several locations in Malaysian and Indonesian granaries were tested for variation in their susceptibility to the leaf blight pathogen ( Exserohilum longirostratum ). Four phenological growth stages of the ecotypes were sprayed with E. longirostratum at the rate of 1 × 107 conidia mL−1 under glasshouse conditions. The results of the study showed that plants inoculated with 1 × 107 conidia mL−1 and exposed for 24 h dew periods were severely infected and the percentage dry weight reduction of all ecotypes significantly increased. The 1–2 and 2–3-leaf stage plants were completely killed within 6 days after inoculation. However, susceptibility reactions among the ecotypes were observed at the 4–5-leaf stage, while the 6–7-leaf stage was resistant. The ecotypes, K-02, PK-04, KN-02, CJ-01, and L-01, were the most susceptible ecotypes as indicated by a higher area under disease progress curve value. The apparent disease progress rates for these ecotypes were significantly faster compared to the other ecotypes. The dry weight reduction among the four growth stages was variable. These findings show that the 1–2 and 2–3-leaf stages are the most susceptible, while the 6–7-leaf stage was resistant. This study has confirmed that a variable response to the fungal pathogen occurred within an intraspecific barnyard grass collection.  相似文献

The genetic population structure of red snapper Lutjanus malabaricus and orange‐spotted grouper Epinephelus coiodes in Brunei and Sabah was investigated using allozyme electrophoresis. Samples were collected from three sites in Brunei for E. coiodes and from three sites in Brunei and Sabah for L. malabaricus. A total of 22 loci and 16 loci were scored, respectively. The index of fixation (FST) for the E. coiodes population was 0.176 but, in general, it lacked within‐population structuring. The FST was particularly high between Brunei Bay/Jerudong and Brunei Bay/ Kuala Belait, suggesting genetic subdivision on a small spatial scale. Isolation of Brunei Bay from the South China Sea may constrain the movement of adult fishes and larval dispersal, thereby reducing homogeneity among subpopulations. All variable loci for E. coiodes were in Hardy‐Weinberg equilibrium except for MDH* and GTDHP* (P < 0.01), in which two subpopulations showed an excess of heterozygotes (P < 0.01). The study on the L. malabaricus population showed a heterozygote deficit of approximately 60% in variable loci (FST genetic variation within population = 0.45; P < 0.05); however, the mean observed heterozygosity for the population far exceeded L. malabaricus populations in Australia and Indonesia. A FST value of 0.076 revealed moderate genetic differentiation among subpopulations of L. malabaricus. The genotypes were likely to be drawn from the same distribution in Jerudong and Kuala Belait. This study infers that sustainable management of snapper and grouper resources in Brunei waters must take into account the presence of a single stock and two stocks, respectively.  相似文献

The anticonvulsant ameltolide (LY201116) is a novel potential therapy for the treatment of canine epilepsy. Eight dogs were administered five different oral doses of ameltolide and clinical scoring of the maximal electroshock (MES) induced seizures at 3 and 24 h postdosing were determined in two separate crossover design studies. Plasma ameltolide concentrations were determined at the time of seizures in all dogs and complete plasma concentration‐time profiles were also determined in a separate study. A nonlinear mixed effects PK/PD model was fit to the resulting data. A one compartment open model with first order absorption was determined to best fit the ameltolide pharmacokinetics. An effect compartment with a cumulative logistic regression equation was used to establish the PK/PD relationship. The mean bioavailability normalized volume of distribution and the elimination half‐life were estimated at 1.20 L/kg and 5.46 h, respectively. The fitted model estimated that from 2 to 15 h following a single 3 mg/kg oral ameltolide dose the mean probability of obtaining a 1 unit reduction in the seizure clinical score severity was greater than 0.80. The utilized PK/PD analysis combined with the canine MES model allowed for the rapid and efficient determination of the plasma ameltolide concentration‐anticonvulsant relationship preclinically in dogs.  相似文献

Allelopathy has the potential to tackle the concerns associated with the indiscriminate use of synthetic herbicides. In search of a natural herbicide, the effects of mulberry (Morus alba) leaf water extracts on bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon) and wheat (Triticum aestivum) were investigated. Four concentrations of extract (25, 50, 75, and 100%) were compared with a control (distilled water). The results revealed that the pregermination application of 100% mulberry leaf water extract resulted in the complete inhibition of bermudagrass and wheat germination. However, postemergence, two foliar sprays suppressed only the growth of bermudagrass and promoted wheat growth. The effect of the mulberry leaf water extract was concentration dependent. It is evident that the postemergence application of mulberry leaf water extract has the scope for use as natural herbicide for the control of bermudagrass and to promote the growth and yield of wheat.  相似文献

[目的]评价棕榈粕渣发酵饲料对肉牛养殖效果的影响,为棕榈粕渣发酵饲料产品的研发与应用提供依据。[方法]选用24头夏洛莱牛与当地黄牛的杂交育成牛为试验对象,随机分成Ⅰ、Ⅱ、Ⅲ组与对照组4个组。在育肥期(14~16月龄),对照组试验牛饲喂精料补充料和基础粗饲料(100%玉米秸秆),试验组Ⅰ、Ⅱ、Ⅲ组试验牛饲喂与对照组相同的精料补充料和分别用10%、20%、30%棕榈粕渣发酵饲料替代玉米秸秆的粗饲料,拴系饲养,进行饲养试验。经过分析肉牛的生长性能、健康状况、经济效益,评价其应用效果。[结果]在育肥期,以棕榈粕渣发酵饲料替代部分(10%、20%、30%)玉米秸秆作为肉牛粗饲料能达到同样的育肥效果;育肥过程中对照组及试验组杂交牛存活率均为100%,健康状况良好;各组盈利排序为试验组Ⅲ >试验组Ⅱ >试验组Ⅰ >对照组。[结论]含有棕榈粕渣发酵饲料的肉牛粗饲料可以降低养殖成本、提高经济效益。  相似文献

A glasshouse experiment was conducted at University Putra Malaysia, Serdang, to study the growth pattern of itchgrass collected from 13 locations. The itchgrass was either associated with crops or found along roadsides in six infested estates located in Johor, Kedah, Pahang, Perak, Perlis and Selangor. Significant differences between populations were observed in all variables except in time to seedling emergence. Cluster analysis of the data classified the populations into three major groups. The first group comprised populations from Johor, Pahang and Perak found in association with banana, cocoa and oil palm plantations, or along the roadsides. The second group comprised populations from Kedah, Perlis and Selangor found in association with maize, upland rice, rubber, sugar cane and tobacco plantations. The third group was a distinct population found only along roadsides at Padang Kartong, Perlis. Principal component analysis was performed to determine the growth characteristics that separated the groups. The results showed that plant height, number of leaves, number of seeds/plant, secondary culm diameter and the weight of 100 intact or dehulled seeds were the most significant characteristics that differentiated the groups. The study provided strong evidence of the existence of three itchgrass groups in Peninsular Malaysia.  相似文献
