The distribution of oestrogen and progesterone receptors in the equine genital tract was investigated by means of a modified dextran-coated charcoal method on samples collected from the vagina, the cervix and the uterus of 30 healthy adult Polish mares, divided into two groups on the basis of their serum progesterone levels. The concentrations of oestrogen and progesterone receptors were significantly (P<0·05) lower in the vagina and the cervix than in the uterus, in agreement with data from human beings, cattle and pigs, which showed that the highest concentrations of oestrogen and progesterone receptors were localised respectively in the body and in the horns of the uterus. 相似文献

Objectives
We examined canopy gap structure and regeneration patterns at the landscape scale using a combination of remote sensing and field-based surveys. Methods
The study was carried out in the forest reserve of Lom, an old-growth Fagus-Abies-Picea forest located within the Dinaric Alps in the north-western part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. A high-resolution (1-m panchromatic and 4-m multispectral) Kompsat-2 satellite image was orthorectified and classified through an unsupervised pixel-based classification using an artificial neural network method. Results
This approach allowed the identification of 650 canopy gaps, ranging in size from 32 to 1,776?m2. Only 20 intermediate to large gaps (>250?m2) were identified, and they were mainly present near the perimeter of the reserve. The origin of these large openings was associated with past human-caused disturbances or topographic conditions. The species composition of regeneration within large, human-caused gaps differed markedly from small gaps and non-gap sites in the core area of the reserve. Shade-intolerant species dominated the seedling and sapling layers in large openings. The landscape approach employed in this study confirmed the hypothesis that small gaps predominate at Lom, especially within the core area of the reserve. 相似文献4.

ABSTRACTThis work aimed to evaluate the physicochemical and functional properties of proteins recovered from whitemouth croaker (Micropogonias furnieri) and Argentine anchovy (Engraulis anchoita) residues obtained by the process of acid solubilization using HCl at pH = 2 and alkaline solubilization using NaOH at pH = 12 and isoelectric precipitation (pH = 5.5). The proximate composition and functional properties were determined. The solubilization and water holding capacity (WHC) of the recovered protein were studied in the pH range of 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11. The high protein content and lowest lipid reduction presented by the protein recovered from the whitemouth croaker residue and obtained by the acid solubilizing process was 97.1 and 98.4%, respectively. The maximum solubilized protein was at pH 3 and 11, and the minimum solubilized protein was at pH 5 for both species. The greater ability to retain oil was observed for the alkaline solubilization process (8.3 and 7.3). The lower WHC was at pH 5. The acid and alkali residue concentrates of the whitemouth croaker presented higher WHC at pH 3 and 11. These proteins can be used in preparing edible films and have been used to produce bioactive compounds for supplements or functional ingredients. 相似文献

European larch is a dominant species in the subalpine belt of the western Alps. Despite recent increases in wildfire activity in this region, fire ecology of European larch is poorly understood compared to other larch species around the world. This study aims to assess whether European larch forests are resilient to fires, and to find out the factors that drive such resilience. We assessed the recovery of larch forests along a gradient of fire severity (low, moderate, high) based on the abundance and dominance of post-fire larch regeneration. We established 200 plots distributed among burned larch forests in nine wildfires that occurred between 1973 and 2007 in the western Alps. We included variables regarding topography, climate, fire severity, fire legacies, ground cover, grazing intensity, and time since fire. To evaluate potential drivers of larch recruitment, we applied generalized linear mixed models (GLMM) and random forests (RF). Larch regeneration was much more abundant and dominant in the moderate- and high-severity fire classes than in the low-severity class. More than half of the plots in the moderate- and high-severity classes were classified as resilient, i.e., post-fire larch regeneration was enough to recover a larch stand. GLMM and RF produced complementary results: fire severity and legacies, such as snags, canopy cover and distance to seed source, were crucial factors explaining post-fire larch recruitment. This study shows that fire has a positive effect on larch regeneration, and we conclude that European larch forests are highly resilient to mixed-severity fires in the western Alps. 相似文献

Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) dominate many of the European forest stands. Also, mixtures of European beech and Scots pine more or less occur over all European countries, but have been scarcely investigated. The area occupied by each species is of high relevance, especially for growth evaluation and comparison of different species in mixed and monospecific stands. Thus, we studied different methods to describe species proportions and their definition as proportion by area. 25 triplets consisting of mixed and monospecific stands were established across Europe ranging from Lithuania to Spain in northern to southern direction and from Bulgaria to Belgium in eastern to western direction. On stand level, the conclusive method for estimating the species proportion as a fraction of the stand area relates the observed density (tree number or basal area) to its potential. This stand-level estimation makes use of the potential from comparable neighboring monospecific stands or from maximum density lines derived from other data, e.g. forest inventories or permanent observations plots. At tree level, the fraction of the stand area occupied by a species can be derived from the proportions of their crown projection area or of their leaf area. The estimates of the potentials obtained from neighboring monospecific stands, especially in older stands, were poorer than those from the maximum density line depending on the Martonne aridity index. Therefore, the stand-level method in combination with the Martonne aridity index for potential densities can be highly recommended. The species’ proportions estimated with this method are best approximated by the proportions of the species’ leaf areas. In forest practice, the most commonly applied method is an ocular estimation of the proportions by crown projection area. Even though the proportions of pine were calculated here by measuring crown projection areas in the field, we found this method to underestimate the proportion by 25% compared to the stand-level approach. 相似文献

In the world lentil is grown on more than 3 million hectares and is one of the most important, low-cost, food source of protein.
In Italy lentil has been cultivated since ancient times, but in the last decades its cultivation has been confined to marginal
areas, small islands and hilly, mountainous areas of central and southern Italy. Local varieties are still common and are
often greatly appreciated for their taste and cooking qualities. Several accessions from the Santo Stefano di Sessanio area,
Abruzzo Region, were collected and phenotypically and genotypically characterized in order to look for the existing variability
within and between populations. Image analysis of seeds was also used. Populations grown in Santo Stefano di Sessanio and
in the neighbouring area basically share most of their characteristics. However, some of the accessions anonymously gathered
from the local market were shown to be different from those collected from farmers. The paper reports and discusses how this
local product needs be characterized and promoted in order to avoid fraud that could negatively affect the local economy and
put valuable, adapted, genetic resources at risk of erosion. 相似文献

Fatty acid composition of the crude lipid fraction of peat was investigated using several typical peat profiles in Japan. Fatty acid composition varied with the peat layers accumulated in a peat profile since 32,000 years BP. Deposition of long-range transported volcanic ash tephras also affected the composition remarkably due to the acceleration of decomposition. Fatty acid composition differed among high moor, transitional moor, and low moor peat profiles sampled in several locations in Hokkaido, Japan. The difference in the plants involved in the formation of peat was considered to be a very important factor determining the fatty acid composition. For example, arachidic acid was considered to be a good indicator for the presence of reed, while the percentage of stearic acid tended to be high in the high moor peat profiles dominated by sphagnum. As the fatty acids with a longer chain length were more stable than those with a shorter chain length, the percentage of longer fatty acids (C24 and C26) tended to increase and that of shorter fatty acids (CI4 and CI6) to decrease in the lower peat profiles. The drying of peatland also exerted a similar effect on the fatty acid composition. 相似文献

The degradation of some dicarboximidic fungicides (chlozolinate, iprodione, procymidone and vinclozolin) has been studied in wine at pH values of 3.0 and 4.0, at 30°. The kinetic data obtained by observing the disappearance of the active ingredient (3.0 mg kg?1) showed the pseudo first-order rate constants to be higher at pH 4.0 than at 3.0, with a trend for the values to be in the order: chlozolinate > vinclozolin > procymidone > iprodione. 3, 5-Dichloroaniline was not detected as a degradation product of any of the compounds. Chlozolinate and vinclozolin in wine each yielded a major metabolite, the structures of which are proposed. 相似文献
