Surveys of thrips and Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) on weeds were conducted in the eastern Mediterranean region of Turkey during the years 2004–2006. Thrips species were collected by vigorously shaking weedy plants into a white container for 15 sec. Plant material collected during field surveys and plants which were used for mechanical inoculation of TSWV, were tested by DAS–ELISA. The weed species Ranunculus muricatus, Melilotus officinalis, Sinapis arvensis and Portulaca oleracea were used for the virus transmission experiments in an enclosed high plastic tunnel and in cage experiments. Western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentlis (Pergande) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae), was the most common thrips, inhabiting 80 of the 82 weed species sampled. Adults of F. occidentalis and thrips larvae were significantly more abundant on S. arvensis than on the other weed species sampled (P<0.05). Adult and larval thrips showed peak densities on most weeds in April or May. Summer annual weeds were not good hosts for reproduction of the thrips. A total of 90 samples from 17 plant species belonging to 11 plant families were ELISA positive for TSWV. No TSWV was detected on 65 weed species belonging to 26 plant families. High numbers of plant samples infected by TSWV were obtained in P. oleracea (21 samples) and in R. muricatus (15 samples). In field surveys symptoms of TSWV were detected on only R. muricatus. Incidence of the TSWV on weeds ranged between 5% and 25%. Transmission rates of TSWV by F. occidentalis to the weeds ranged from 33% to 83% in the pepper plastic tunnel and cage experiments.  相似文献

Rootstock selection has a critical importance for mineral nutrition of budded cultivars. This study was conducted at the experimental farm of Mustafa Kemal University, Dörtyol, Turkey. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of sour orange, Troyer and Carrizo citrange rootstocks on the leaf nutrient contents of ‘Nova’, ‘Robinson’, and ‘Fremont’ mandarin cultivars in the 2004 and 2005 growing seasons. Carrizo citrange was examined for nitrogen (N), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na), and manganese (Mn); Troyer citrange for iron (Fe); and sour orange for calcium (Ca) and zinc (Zn) were superior on the others. Nitrogen, phosphorus (P) and Mg levels of mandarin leaf budded on sour orange were under or just above the deficiency threshold. Potassium, Mn, and Zn content of ‘Robinson’; P, Ca and Fe content of ‘Fremont’; and Cu content of ‘Nova’ were statistically higher. Therefore, it can be concluded that Carrizo rootstock may be suggested for the region and regions with similar ecological conditions.  相似文献

Reactions of zinc with iron-oxide coated calcite surfaces at alkaline pH   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Both iron oxides and carbonate minerals, such as calcite, can sorb zinc (Zn), and therefore are important in controlling the solution concentration and availability of Zn to plants growing in calcareous soil. When present together, interactions between these components affect their sorption behaviour. We investigated changes in the reactions of Zn with calcite at alkaline pH, as the calcite surface was progressively coated by iron oxide. Coated calcite surfaces were prepared that had from 0.05 to 1.45% iron oxide. The initial concentration of Zn and the amount of iron oxide on the calcite were the most critical factors affecting adsorption, precipitation of solid phases, and the desorbability of sorbed Zn. For pure calcite at small initial Zn concentrations (< 2.5 × 10?5 m ) adsorption was dominant; with increasing concentration, precipitation of hydrozincite (ZHC) became more important. With increasing amounts of iron oxide the amount of Zn adsorbed increased, the desorbability of the Zn decreased, and precipitation became progressively less evident, and at 1.45% iron oxide content there was no evidence of any precipitation of ZHC. The calculated maximum adsorption attributable to the iron oxide coating was inversely proportional to the thickness of the oxides on the calcite, and greatly exceeded that of iron oxide as a separate phase. The common occurrence of iron‐coated carbonates in calcareous soils and their capacity to adsorb Zn contributes to the problems of Zn deficiency, for which these soils are noted.  相似文献

Rootstocks-scion relations have critical consequences about nutritional status, tree vigour, resistance to pest and pathogens, yield and yield quality. In this study, we therefore investigated seasonal variations of leaf mineral nutrient concentrations in Satsuma mandarin’s cvs. ‘Okitsu’, ‘Clausellina’ and ‘Silverhill’ budded on different citrus rootstocks under Dörtyol-Hatay, Turkey ecological conditions. Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and K (potassium) concentrations of the leaves showed slightly similar trend each other, in general these nutrients reduced from January to March–April, and increased during the growing season until mid- and late summer, then decreased until December. Despite rootstocks did not significantly affect the leaf N, P and K concentrations rootstock-scion relation was pre-eminent and nutrient dependent. Most conspicuous scion dependent changes were recorded for K concentration whereas P concentration was little influenced. In terms of scion-rootstock combination, the range of N and K concentrations were 2.11% (‘Okitsu’/sour orange) to 2.34% (Silverhill/sour orange), and 1.09% (‘Okitsu’/Carrizo citrange) to 1.39% (‘Clausellina’/Carrizo citrange), respectively; but P concentrations were highly similar %0.13 (‘Okitsu’/sour orange) – %0.16 (‘Clausellina’/Carrizo citrange), in the entire growing season. It can be concluded that there are considerable differences in nutrient uptake ability of scion-rootstock combination.  相似文献

Low availability of phosphorus (P) in Turkish soils is a significant problem of agricultural production depending on carbonates in slightly weathered and iron/aluminum oxides in highly weathered soils. Thus, crop-based P fertilization along with inherited nature of P partition can lead to changes in the amounts and geochemical fractions of phosphorus. For this reason, horizon-based surface samples were taken from 16 soil series that belong to four orders with different pedotransfer functions. The geochemical phosphorus fractions were sequentially extracted by sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), sodium hydroxide (NaOH), citrate-dithionite-bicarbonate buffer system (CBD), hydrochloric acid (HCl), and aqua-regia. Results indicated that weathering sequence was inversely related to plant available P fractions. The fertilizer P was possibly converted to HCl-extractable (Ca-Pi) fraction in calcareous soils through NaOH-Po and NaHCO3-Po fractions whereas it accumulated in the CBD-P fraction in relatively weathered soils. The carbonates and Al/Fe oxides were most significant constituents in P partitioning as consequences of parent material and weathering chronosequence.  相似文献

The effect of replacing wheat flour by infrared stabilized rice bran (SRB) at the levels of 2.5, 5.0 and 10.0% on the content of thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pyridoxamine, pyridoxine, minerals and phytic acid in white wheat, wheat bran, and whole grain wheat breads was investigated. The incorporation of SRB significantly increased the amount of the noted B vitamins, especially niacin, in all bread types (p < 0.05). Zinc, iron, potassium and phosphorus levels of the breads increased gradually and significantly with the inclusion of SRB (p < 0.05). Moreover, phytic acid content of the breads increased proportional to the SRB substitution dose (p < 0.05).  相似文献

We investigated the effects of Topogard 50 WP (3 kg ha–1) on soil respiration, mineral N content, and number of denitrifying and total bacteria in four coarse-textured volcanic soils for 91 days. Topogard application decreased CO2 evolution in acid soils (Tepedibi and Karaçakl) whereas soil respiration was initially increased in neutral and alkaline soils (Kaba and Balar). The herbicide application significantly stimulated ammonification in Kaba and Balar soils, while Tepedibi and Karaçakl soils showed significantly lower NH4+-N contents than the control. The treatment inhibited the activity of nitrifying microorganisms and, thus it decreased the NO3-N content in Tepedibi, Karaçakl, and Kaba soils, whereas the NO3-N content was increased in Balar soil. The NO2-N content of soils was not affected by the treatment. The activity of denitrifying bacteria was stimulated by the addition of herbicide in all soils, whereas the total number of bacteria was not influenced. It may be concluded that the effects of Topogard on the microbiological characteristics of coarse-textured soils are likely to be dependent on soil pH.  相似文献
