Quantitative information regarding biomass accumulation and partitioning in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is limited or inconclusive. The objective of this study was to obtain baseline values for extinction coefficient (KS), radiation use efficiency (RUE, g MJ?1) and biomass partitioning coefficients of chickpea crops grown under well‐watered conditions. The stability of these parameters during the crop life cycle and under different environmental and growth conditions, caused by season and sowing date and density, were also evaluated. Two field experiments, each with three sowing dates and four plant densities, were conducted during 2002–2004. Crop leaf area index, light interception and crop biomass were measured between emergence and maturity. A KS value of 0.5 was obtained. An average RUE of 1 g MJ?1 was obtained. Plant density had no effect on RUE, but some effects of temperature were detected. There was no effect of solar radiation or vapour pressure deficit on RUE when RUE values were corrected for the effect of temperature. RUE was constant during the whole crop cycle. A biphasic pattern was found for biomass partitioning between leaves and stems before first‐seed stage. At lower levels of total dry matter, 54 % of biomass produced was allocated to leaves, but at higher levels of total dry matter, i.e. under favourable and prolonged conditions for vegetative growth, this portion decreased to 28 %. During the period from first‐pod to first‐seed, 60 % of biomass produced went to stems, 27 % to pods and 13 % to leaves. During the period from first‐seed to maturity, 83 % of biomass was partitioned to pods. It was concluded that using fixed partitioning coefficients after first‐seed are not as effective as they are before this stage. Environmental conditions (temperature and solar radiation) and plant density did not affect partitioning of biomass.  相似文献

To find out more about the biochemical aspects of seed-softness trait in pomegranate (Punica granatum L.), some of the phenylpropanoid pathway enzymes as well as their products were evaluated in the various soft- and hard-seeded genotypes during fruit development. Results showed that peroxidase (POD) activity decreased in all studied genotypes during fruit growth, while increasing at the last stages only in the hard-seeded genotypes. Although laccase (LAC) activity did not show high differences during fruit ripening and in different genotypes, but its general trend was increasing. Phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) activity decreased during the fruit development and approximately diminished for the hard-seeded genotypes. All genotypes had lignin components in their seeds and amount of lignin increased during the growth season. Total phenolic decreased drastically and antioxidant capacity increased gradually showing an opposite trend and probable competitive effect for the same substrate during fruit development. Considerable differences that were observed in the POD activity at the last sampling stage, and higher activity that was observed in POD than LAC, may indicate that POD is more important for polymerization of lignin in the pomegranate seed and this enzyme might have some role in the development of seed softness trait in pomegranate. Also, this is the first report about lignin detection in the seeds of soft-seeded pomegranate genotypes, and represents a different mechanism (such as monolignol conformation in the final polymer) from lignin content for development of the soft-seeded pomegranate genotype.  相似文献

According to the World Reference Base for Soil Resources (IUSS Working Group WRB, 2006), the differentiation of Acrisols and Alisols is based on the cation‐exchange capacity of clay, which cannot be directly determined in the field, but needs expensive and time‐consuming soil‐chemical analyses. This is an unsatisfactory situation for pedologists, who urgently require a rapid field method to distinguish illuviation‐type reference soil groups (Alisols, Acrisols, Luvisols, Lixisols). In this study, we tested the ability of gamma‐ray spectrometry to separate major WRB reference soil groups in the field. The underlying hypothesis is that Alisols and Acrisols are distinguished by their clay mineral composition, which should be reflected by geochemistry and consequently gamma‐ray radiation (i.e., K‐containing illite vs. K‐free kaolinite). Highly significant differences in their gamma‐ray spectrum for K, Th, and U were found for limestone and its soils. Especially the K and Th signatures allowed a clear separation of Acrisols and Alisols. In general, the surface radiation was sufficient to separate these soils. Best results were revealed considering parent rock and the whole soil profile. This means by using a portable radiometer and a pH meter, all illuviation‐type reference soil groups could be distinguished in this case. If applicable at other sites, this approach could enormously reduce expenditures for soil‐chemical analysis needed to assist soil classification.  相似文献

Banana (Musa spp.) is one of the most widely cultivated subtropical fruits around the globe. Banana cultivation has been extensively increased in southeastern Iran over the last two decades. Recently, banana fruits possessing rotten and blackened fingertip symptoms were observed in Sistan-Baluchestan, Iran. Isolation and characterization of the causal agent showed that the pathogen belongs to the multifaceted bacterial species Burkholderia cenocepacia. Pathogenicity tests and host range assays showed that the strains were pathogenic on banana, as well as carrot, onion and potato. All the strains were resistant to 50 mg L−1 rifampicin and 200 mg L−1 copper sulphate. Phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA and recA gene sequences showed that the strains belong to two different genomovars of B. cenocepacia (III-A and III-B), which also include environmental and cystic fibrosis associated strains of the species. The results obtained from recA phylogeny were confirmed using multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA), although MLSA showed that the banana strains were clustered as a novel phylogroup among the members of both genomovars. Banana-pathogenic B. cenocepacia strains isolated in Iran were different from the strains isolated in Taiwan, as the ‘B. cepacia epidemic strain marker’ reported in the Taiwanese strains was absent from Iranian strains. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first MLSA-based study on the banana-pathogenic strains of B. cenocepacia. However, further in-depth molecular studies are needed to decipher the relationships between the banana fingertip rot pathogen and the clinical strains of B. cenocepacia.  相似文献

An epidemiological study to examine the sero-prevalence of zoonotic visceral leishmaniosis (ZVL) among domestic and wild canines in endemic foci of Iran was carried out during 1999-2003 to assess the distribution of the disease and the possible association between infection in dogs, wild canines and people. Anti-leishmanial antibodies were detected by the direct agglutination test (DAT). Parasitological study was performed for all captured wild canines and were detected in some of the seropositive dogs with specific clinical signs (n=107). Serum samples (n=1568) were collected from domestic dogs in villages that are known endemic foci of human visceral leishmaniosis (HVL). Wild canine sera were collected from jackals (Canis aureus, n=10), foxes (Vulpes vulpes, n=10) and wolves (Canis lupus, n=10). Of the 1568 serum sampled collected from domestic dogs, 222 (14.2%) were positive by DAT (1:320 and above). No statistically significant difference was found between male (15.2%) and female (11.8%) sero-prevalence (P=0.083). Dogs of 8 years and above showed the highest sero-prevalence (40.6%). Only 23.9% of the seropositive domestic dogs had clinical signs. Parasitology and serology tests that were performed in 30 wild canines showed 10% these animals were infected by Leishmania infantum. Ten out of 11 Leishmania spp. isolated from the dogs and wild canines were identified as L. infantum and one other as L. tropica by molecular and biochemical techniques. For the first time in Iran, L. infantum and L. tropica were isolated from viscera of both a wolf and a domestic dog.  相似文献

Basalt Weathering and Soil Development since the Middle Tertiary on Lanzarote, Canary Islands - The Profile Malaya Chica A polygenetic soil on tertiary (miocene) basalt in the north of Lanzarote (Canary Islands, Spain) was examined. Soil development was reconstructed, which took place in a semiarid climate since the end of the tertiary period. The interpretation of field and laboratory results (carbonate, grainsize distribution, oxalate and dithionithe soluble oxides, CEC, clay minerals, micromorphology) explained the history of development. Since the miocene at least seven consecutive phases of soil development took place induced by erosion, volcanic and colluvial sedimentation and/or climatic changes.  相似文献

For the development of sustainable land‐management systems in the highlands of N Thailand, detailed knowledge about soil distribution and soil properties is a prerequisite. Yet to date, there are hardly any detailed soil maps available on a watershed scale. In this study, soil maps on watershed level were evaluated with regard to their suitability for agricultural land‐use planning. In addition to common scientific methods (as underlying the WRB classification), participatory methods were used to exploit local knowledge about soils and to document it in a “Local Soil Map”. Where the WRB classification identified eight soil units, the farmers distinguished only five on the basis of soil color and “hardness”. The “Local Soil Map” shows little resemblance with the detailed, patchy pattern of the WRB‐based soil map. On the contrary, the “Local Soil Map” is fairly similar to the petrographic map suggesting that soil color is directly related to parent material. The farmers' perception about soil fertility and soil suitability for cropping could be confirmed by analytical data. We conclude that integrating local soil knowledge, petrographic information, and knowledge of local cropping practices allows for a rapid compilation of information for land‐evaluation purposes at watershed level. It is the most efficient way to build a base for regional land‐use planning.  相似文献

A laboratory study was performed to investigate the influence of soil texture (sandy loam vs. clay loam), Pb supply (as Pb(NO3)2 without or with compost) and Pb levels on the extraction of available Pb by diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) and its desorption patterns at ten shaking periods. The soils were polluted with five Pb levels without or with compost and incubated for 1 month. Kinetic models commonly used to study the release of the nutrients were used in this study. Results showed that Power function model described the pattern of Pb desorption better than other models. The amount of extracted Pb increased as the Pb levels increased and was found to be higher in sandy loam soil treated with Pb without compost than that of clay loam soil treated with Pb with compost. The a value (Pb desorption constant) was the highest in sandy loam soil amended with Pb without compost. The lowest value of a, however, was observed in clay loam soil amended with Pb with compost. The ab coefficient (initial desorption rate of Pb) was higher in sandy loam than clay loam soil, demonstrating higher initial release rates of Pb in the coarser-textured soil. Addition of Pb without compost resulted in a higher increase in ab value in comparison with Pb with compost, in both the soils.  相似文献

Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi alleviate the unfavorable effects of salinity stress on plant growth. A pot study was conducted to determine the effects of AM fungi and salt on growth and some physiological parameters of Citrus jambheri rootstock. Four levels of salinity (2, 4, 6, and 8 dS m?1 as NaCl) and three mycorrhizal treatments (Glomus etunicatum, Glomus intraradices and non-mycorrhizal (NM) control) were used. As salinity increased, all measured characteristics of plants after 4.5-month growth except Na uptake, proline content, and electrolyte leakage decreased. Shoot dry weight and K uptake were significantly higher in G. intraradices-colonized seedlings than NM controls at all salinity levels. Root dry weight and shoot P uptake were significantly higher in G. etunicatum-colonized seedlings than NM controls at all salinity levels. G. intraradices-colonized seedlings had significantly higher proline content than NM controls and G. etunicatum-colonized seedlings at salinity levels of 4, 6 and 8 dS m?1. The electrolyte leakage percentage was significantly lower in G. intraradices-colonized seedlings than NM controls at all salinity levels. The data demonstrated that mycorrhizal citrus seedlings exhibited greater tolerance to salt stress than NM seedlings and the enhanced proline content seems to be one of the mechanisms involved.  相似文献

Background:The methylotrophic yeast Pichia pastoris is an appealing production host for a variety of recombinant proteins, including biologics. In this sense, various genetic- and non-genetic-based techniques have been implemented to improve the production efficiency of this expression platform. Los1 (loss of supression) encodes a non-essential nuclear tRNA exporter in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, which its deletion extends RLS. Herein, a los1-deficient strain of P. pastoris was generated and characterized. Methods:A gene disruption cassette was prepared and transformed into an anti-CD22-expressing strain of P. pastoris. A δ los1 mutant was isolated and confirmed. The drug sensitivity of the mutant was also assessed. The growth pattern and the level of anti-CD22 ScFv expression were compared between the parent and mutant strains.Results:The los1 homologue was found to be a non-essential gene in P. pastoris. Furthermore, the susceptibility of los1 deletion strain to protein synthesis inhibitors was altered. This strain showed an approximately 1.85-fold increase in the extracellular level of anti-CD22 scFv (p < 0.05). The maximum concentrations of total proteins secreted by δ los1 and parent strains were 125 mg/L and 68 mg/L, respectively.Conclusion:The presented data suggest that the targeted disruption of los1 homologue in P. pastoris can result in a higher expression level of our target protein. Findings of this study may improve the current strategies used in optimizing the productivity of recombinant P. pastoris strains.
