This article describes the treatment of single congenital portosystemic shunts (CPSs) (intrahepatic and extrahepatic) using an interventional radiology technique involving embolisation of anomalous vessels with percutaneous coils. Briefly, a multipurpose catheter was introduced into the caudal vena cava and then into the portosystemic shunt. An autoexpandable stent was placed in the caudal vena cava, next to the shunt, in order to avoid coil migrations, and a cobra-like vascular catheter was used to pass through the stent and to place the coils in the shunt. This technique was used for treatment of CPS in six dogs. The results indicate that percutaneous embolisation of a CPS using coils, a less invasive technique than the traditional surgical technique, may result in complete closure of the anomalous vessel without development of portal hypertension.  相似文献

ABSTRACT We have characterized strains of Fusarium oxysporum from common bean fields in Spain that were nonpathogenic on common bean, as well as F. oxysporum strains (F. oxysporum f. sp. phaseoli) pathogenic to common bean by random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis. We identified a RAPD marker (RAPD 4.12) specific for the highly virulent pathogenic strains of the seven races of F. oxysporum f. sp. phaseoli. Sequence analysis of RAPD 4.12 allowed the design of oligonucleotides that amplify a 609-bp sequence characterized amplified region (SCAR) marker (SCAR-B310A280). Under controlled environmental and greenhouse conditions, detection of the pathogen by polymerase chain reaction was 100% successful in root samples of infected but still symptomless plants and in stem samples of plants with disease severity of >/=4 in the Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT; Cali, Colombia) scale. The diagnostic procedure can be completed in 5 h and allows the detection of all known races of the pathogen in plant samples at early stages of the disease with no visible symptoms.  相似文献

Pig slurry in quantities of 200, 400, 500, 600, 800, and 1000 m3 ha-1 year-1 was added to two calcareous soils, which differed in concentration and type of clay minerals. The soils were cultivated with two successive crops of pepper and tomatoes grown in containers. A control was given no slurry. The soils were analysed after harvesting for exchangeable K+. Differences in exchangeable K+ were studied in relation to the concentration and type of clay minerals. The soil with the higher clay content and of the illite type retained K in the exchangeable form to a much greater extent than the soil with the low clay content. In the soil with the lower clay content, of the interstratified illitic — montmorillonite type, very little K was incorporated into the exchange complex. The exchange capacity being low, the amount of K added had little effect on the level of exchangeable K+.  相似文献

There is very little information available on the kinetic characteristics of fungal lipoxygenases (LOXs) because most data on the mechanism of this enzyme concern soybean LOX. In this paper, the kinetic properties of LOX from Terfezia claveryi Chatin ascocarps were studied for the first time. The enzyme did not show the "substrate aggregation-dependent activity" described for other LOXs and presented a K(m) for linoleic acid of 41 microM at pH 7.0. The effect of different inhibitors was also studied. The enzyme presented the characteristic lag phase of other LOXs, and the influence of different factors on its duration was analyzed. The lag period was reduced not only by the product of the reaction (13-HPOD) but also by 9-HPOD. Calculation of the activation constant is proposed for the first time as a useful tool for the characterization of LOX because this method makes it possible to quantify the effectiveness of different hydroperoxides as LOX activators. The activation constants obtained were 0.3 and 6.4 microM for 13- and 9-HPOD, respectively; thus, the product of the reaction was approximately 21-fold more effective than 9-HPOD as a T. claveryi LOX activator.  相似文献

The use of compost with high salt concentration was evaluated, under commercial conditions, as a potential growing media constituent for vegetable transplant production. Two composts were prepared from sweet sorghum bagasse, pine bark, and either urea (compost A) or brewery sludge (compost B) as N source. Three vegetable species — broccoli (Brassica oleracea), tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum), and onion (Allium cepa) with different tolerance to salinity were used. Eleven substrates were formulated and tested: a control consisting of a moss peat-based commercial substrate; compost A; compost B; and, eight mixtures containing 33 or 67% by volume of each compost with either raw peat moss or commercial substrate as diluent. All the substrates prepared had suitable physical, physicochemical and chemical properties for use as growing media, except for the electrical conductivity (ranging from 3.20 to 13.21 dS m?1) which was above the reference levels for soilless cultivation. Broccoli was the least affected by substrate salinity whilst tomato was the most. Onion transplants had an intermediate response to saline conditions. Tomato seed germination was markedly reduced when compost A, with a higher salt concentration, was used at a rate higher than 67%. Media prepared with either of the composts, and mixed with either a commercial substrate or peat in a rate up to 67%, did not cause any detrimental effect on the growth and nutritional status of broccoli, tomato and onion transplants, despite the high initial salinity of the substrates. These composts appear to be acceptable substitutes for Sphagnum peat in seed sowing mixtures.  相似文献

The growth of 67 young hybrid (Castanea × coudercii A. Camus) and pure sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) plantations was studied in relation to ground vegetation (GV) and non-site factors such as type of site preparation, weed control (WC), disease-related damage and prior land use. The classification and regression trees procedure was used to analyse the data. Ground vegetation communities accounted for a large amount of variability in the site index (SI) and were found to be useful as predictors of chestnut site quality. The presence of broom communities indicated the best site for establishing chestnut plantations, whereas bracken and bramble communities indicated poorer conditions, although those sites can still be considered suitable for growing chestnut. Terrain covered with herbaceous communities also indicated intermediate or even good site conditions. The poorest sites were the heathlands. As regards non-site factors, only weed control was found to be a significant variable. Ground vegetation caused a significant reduction in tree growth, indicating the importance of carrying out regular weeding to improve productivity. The most positive effect of weeding on height growth was detected in terrain covered by gorse and broom, and the least positive effect was observed in heathland. The findings are important for forest management purposes, as evaluation of ground vegetation will enable rapid prediction of site productivity classes in afforested areas and help in selecting the best land for planting this species in reforestation programmes.  相似文献

Key message

LiDAR data (low-density data, 0.5 pulses m ?2 ) represent an excellent management resource as they can be used to estimate forest stand characteristics in short-rotation willow coppice (SRWC) with reasonable accuracy. The technology is also a useful, practical tool for carrying out inventories in these types of stands.

Context

This study evaluated the use of very low-density airborne LiDAR (light detection and ranging) data (0.5 pulses m?2), which can be accessed free of charge, in an SRWC established in degraded mining land.

Aims

This work aimed to determine the utility of low-density LiDAR data for estimating main forest structural attributes and biomass productivity and for comparing the estimates with field measurements carried out in an SRWC planted in marginal land.

Methods

The SRWC was established following a randomized complete block design with three clones, planted at two densities and with three fertilization levels. Use of parametric (multiple regression) and non-parametric (classification and regression trees, CART) fitting techniques yielded models with good predictive power and reliability. Both fitting methods were used for comprehensive analysis of the data and provide complementary information.

Results

The results of multiple regression analysis indicated close relationships (Rfit 2 = 0.63–0.97) between LiDAR-derived metrics and the field measured data for the variables studied (H, D20, D130, FW, and DW). High R 2 values were obtained for models fitted using the CART technique (R 2 = 0.73–0.94).

Conclusion

Low-density LiDAR data can be used to model structural attributes and biomass yield in SRWC with reasonable accuracy. The models developed can be used to improve and optimize follow-up decisions about the management of these crops.

Ground-level dynamics of O3, NO x and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes were characterised at rural sites in the medium Ebro River Basin (Northern Spain) from April to September (2003–2007) and by means of automated and passive monitoring. The study registered high O3 levels within the area, which were influenced by traffic emissions, and a monthly evolution of these levels consistent with the occurrence of a broad summer maximum, typical of polluted areas. The mean ozone concentration registered in the studied area by means of passive sampling was 87?±?12 μg m?3. The 2008/50/EC objective value for the protection of vegetation was widely exceeded during this study (AOT40?=?57,147?±?14,114 μg m?3 h), suggesting that current ambient levels may pose a risk for crops and vegetation in this important agroindustrial region.  相似文献

An esterase activity from Terfezia claveryi Chatin ascocarps, a mycorrhizal hypogeous fungus, is described for the first time. The enzyme was partially purified using phase partitioning in Triton X-114 (TX-114), achieving a reduction of 87% in the triglyceride content and the removal of 63% of phenols. The enzyme showed maximum activity toward short-chain p-nitrophenyl esters, and no interfacial activation was observed, indicating that the enzyme responsible for this activity is an esterase and not a lipase. This esterase presented its maximum activity at pH 7.4 and 60 degrees C. The values obtained for Km at pH 7.4 were 0.3 mM for p-nitrophenyl butyrate and 0.6 mM for p-nitrophenyl acetate with catalytic efficiencies (Vmax/Km) of 0.23 and 0.32, respectively. T. claveryi esterase was inhibited by phenylboric acid, indicating that serine residues were involved in the enzyme activity. This activity was localized only in the hypothecium and was absent from the peridium and gleba.  相似文献

The biosorption of nickel ions on Pseudomonasfluorescens 4F39 free cells or immobilized cells in beads of agar (biobeads)has been studied in batch experiments to determine the effect ofcell immobilization on the metal accumulation properties of bothsystems. Bacterial cells were immobilized in agar beads followingthe interphase technique. When free cells were used, the sorptionequilibrium was reached in 5 min but with biobeads it took 24 hr as a consequence of metal diffusion. The pH of the Ni2+solution was found to be critical for Ni2+ accumulation,the optimum being 8, although the magnitude of this effect waslower in immobilized cells. The equilibrium data have been analysed using the Langmuir adsorption model. The q max of free cells, immobilized cells and biobeads was 145, 37 and7.6 mg Ni2+/g dry sorbent, respectively. The removal capacity of free cells and immobilized cells increased when the cell concentration decreased. The maximum removal efficiency ofbiobeads was obtained when the cell concentration was 1.43 mg drycells/mL Ni2+ solution. The agar concentration in biobeads affected the Ni2+ accumulation, the optimum being 2%. Desorption of Ni2+ with 0.5 mM dipicolinic acid was efficient. Cycles of accumulation/desorption resulted in a lossof non immobilized cells. An increase of the removal efficiencyfrom the first cycle of accumulation/desorption was observed with biobeads.  相似文献
