Over the last decade, algae have been explored as alternative and sustainable protein sources for a balanced diet and more recently, as a potential source of algal-derived bioactive peptides with potential health benefits. This review will focus on the emerging processes for the generation and isolation of bioactive peptides or cryptides from algae, including: (1) pre-treatments of algae for the extraction of protein by physical and biochemical methods; and (2) methods for the generation of bioactive including enzymatic hydrolysis and other emerging methods. To date, the main biological properties of the peptides identified from algae, including anti-hypertensive, antioxidant and anti-proliferative/cytotoxic effects (for this review, anti-proliferative/cytotoxic will be referred to by the term anti-cancer), assayed in vitro and/or in vivo, will also be summarized emphasizing the structure–function relationship and mechanism of action of these peptides. Moreover, the use of in silico methods, such as quantitative structural activity relationships (QSAR) and molecular docking for the identification of specific peptides of bioactive interest from hydrolysates will be described in detail together with the main challenges and opportunities to exploit algae as a source of bioactive peptides. 相似文献

Objective: Calcium channel blockers (CCB) are frequently prescribed for veterinary patients and the incidence of toxicosis secondary to these agents is increasing. The purpose of this review is to discuss toxicity of these agents and review therapeutic options. Etiology: Calcium plays a vital role in maintaining cellular functions within the cardiovascular system. Toxicosis secondary to these drugs can have deleterious effects on vascular tone, cardiac contractility, as well as electrical conduction in the heart. Diagnosis: The intitial diagnosis is often made based on history of ingestion, physical examination and electrocardiography. Definitive diagnosis of CCB overdose can be made via quantification of serum concentrations of the drug ingested. Therapy: Initial therapy should consist of inducing emesis and administration of activated charcoal. Other potential therapies include intravenous calcium, parasympatholytics, sympathomimetics, glucagon, insulin and dextrose, placement of a temporary pacemaker, or calcium channel agonists. Prognosis: There is little data on the outcome of CCB toxicosis. Aggressive management of these cases is necessary to try and minimize morbidity and mortality. 相似文献

ABSTRACT Marine molluscs are consumed as culinary delicacies and represent a relatively untapped source of natural functional food ingredients. The bioactive potential of ethyl acetate-methanol (C2H5OAc/CH3OH) extract of molluscs Uroteuthis duvaucelii, Amphioctopus marginatus, Crassostrea madrasensis, and Sepiella inermis were demonstrated using different in vitro systems. The C2H5OAc/CH3OH extract of A. marginatus displayed greater 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazil (IC90 1.76 mg mL?1) radical quenching capacity along with potential hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme-A reductase (HMGCR)-inhibiting activity (IC90 1.21 mg mL?1) and angiotensin converting enzyme-I inhibitory property (ACE-I) (IC90 0.87 mg mL?1) compared to those displayed by other molluscs. The organic extract of S. inermis set forth significantly higher pro-inflammatory 5-lipoxygenase inhibitory property (IC90 1.96 mg mL?1) along with potential antidiabetic activity as determined by dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) antagonistic activities (IC90 2.62 mg mL?1, P < .05). Significant correlations were observed between bioactive properties and electronegative groups of organic extracts of a mollusc. The free radical quenching property of the extracts exhibited a positive correlation towards other bioactivities, implicating the role of antioxidant property of the compounds in the extract to inhibit lifestyle ailments. The present study indicated that S. inermis and A. marginatus could be utilized as functional food ingredients to combat hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and inflammation-related risks. 相似文献
