Angular deformities of 25 or 37 degrees valgus were created by transverse wedge osteotomies in the diaphysis of the radius in 3-month-old Cocker Spaniels. Spontaneous correction was judged from radiographs until skeletal maturity. The magnitude of correction was estimated, using the opposite normal leg as a control. Asymmetrical physeal growth corrected the induced angulation between the proximal and distal radial joint plane surfaces (joint plane angle). The average correction of the joint plane angle was 80% in the 25 degree group, and 72% in the 37 degree group. Bone remodeling of the radial shaft corrected the induced diaphyseal angulation by 50% in both groups during the study.  相似文献

This study was performed to analyse the effects of low-protein diet (7%) on bone mass and mineral metabolism in rat pups whose mothers were submitted to protein-restricted diet during late pregnancy and early post-natal periods. For this purpose, 12 pregnant Wistar rats were divided into two groups of six animals each: a control group with free access to standard diet (20% protein) and protein-restricted group (PR) fed with low-protein diet (7% protein) from the 14th day of pregnancy until day 14 after delivery. Body weight, femur bone mass, plasma thyroid hormones (FT4 and FT3), biochemical bone marker levels [alkaline phosphatase (ALP), tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (ACP)] and bone DNA content were recorded. In undernourished pups, a decrease in body weight (−47%, p < 0.001) in skeletal growth (−11%, p < 0.001) and in bone DNA content (−48%, p < 0.001) were observed. Plasma protein and albumin levels and thyroid status were also decreased in undernourished rat pups compared with those of control group. The circulating amino acid levels were decreased in pups. While in their mothers, some of them were increased and the others were decreased. A positive correlation was observed between bone mass and plasma thyroid hormone levels and ALP activity and plasma protein levels, and a negative correlation with ACP activity. Plasma ALP levels were decreased by 19%, whereas plasma tartrate-resistant ACP levels were increased by 33% indicating a hyperactivity of bone remodelling. These results showed that protein-restricted diet given to mothers during late pregnancy and early post-natal periods induced changes in body weight, skeletal growth and bone metabolism in their offspring.  相似文献

Placenta is formed by a parenchyma rich in extracellular matrix (ECM), and this structure guarantees the proper development of the embryo and placental functioning. Recently, studies have focused on the characterization of ECM in the placenta and foetal membranes of different species. This work aimed to analyse the composition of the ECM and to quantify the types of collagens in its composition. For this, 33 chorioallantoic membranes were used at different gestational ages, which were grouped into five groups. Subsequently, haematoxylin–eosin staining, Masson trichrome and picrosirius were performed for histological analysis. Through the technique of polarized light, it was possible to quantify the total collagen present in the membranes and finally the immunohistochemical technique was performed to verify the presence of collagens and glycoproteins. It was possible to verify that the chorioallantoic membranes have, in all the gestational periods of the initial third of gestation, the same histological structures, being the most significant difference the membrane thickening that occurs gradually during the gestation. However, we notice the appearance of binucleate cells only from group II. In addition, it was verified that a gradual increase of collagen occurs until the group IV, yet from the group V begins to occur a decrease of this protein. In addition, collagen I, collagen III, fibronectin and laminin were present in all membranes. With this, we concluded that the buffalo chorioallantoic membrane presents ECM in constant remodelling at the beginning of gestation and can be used as biomaterial in works on regenerative biology.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Pulmonary vascular remodelling is one of the important pathological bases of broiler pulmonary hypertension syndrome (PHS). Nitric oxide (NO) has been found to inhibit proliferation and to induce apoptosis in pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (SMC) in mammals with pulmonary hypertension. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of NO precursor l-arginine on pulmonary vascular remodelling in broilers with pulmonary hypertension induced by cold exposure and to examine whether NO-induced apoptosis in pulmonary arteriole SMC is involved in the regulatory mechanisms. METHODS: Two hundred and forty mixed-sex commercial broilers were equally assigned to three groups and reared in normal brooding temperatures before day 14. Starting on day 14 continuing until the end of the experiment, the control group was brooded in normal temperatures whereas the other two groups were subjected to low ambient temperatures with or without l-arginine added to the basal diets. Cumulative PHS mortality and body weight were recorded in each group. Right/total ventricle ratio (RV/TV), plasma NO concentration and pulmonary vascular morphological changes were analyzed. TdT-mediated dUTP-biotin nick-end labeling (TUNEL) assay was used to detect apoptosis in pulmonary arteriole SMC. RESULT: l-Arginine, in group A, had no effect on body weights under cold temperature condition. Birds kept in group B had increased PHS mortality, RV/TV ratio, vessel wall area/vessel total area ratios (WA/TA) and mean media thickness in pulmonary arterioles (mMTPA) (P<0.05). Percentages of apoptotic SMC in pulmonary arterioles in group B were not altered by cold exposure (P>0.05). Supplemental dietary l-arginine in group A elevated plasma NO level (P<0.05), reduced PHS mortality (P<0.05), attenuated pulmonary vascular remodelling and increased the percentages of apoptotic SMC (P<0.05) when compared with the group B. CONCLUSION: Supplemental l-arginine partially inhibited pulmonary vascular remodelling that occurred secondary to increased pulmonary pressure; NO-induced apoptosis in arteriole SMC might contribute to its regulatory effect on pulmonary vascular structural changes.  相似文献

This paper reports on the effects of varying the concentration of sea water dosed at a rate of 10% of body mass on the handling of fluid and solutes by jackass penguins (Spheniscus demersus). The salt gland only secreted when the seawater dosed was hypertonic to the plasma and caused a rise in plasma osmotic concentration of at least 7,5%. The gland reacts to different marginal osmotic loads (equivalent to 40 and 50% seawater) by varying the flow rate and total concentration to match the degree of osmotic stress. High osmotic loads resulted in maximum flow rates and concentration from the onset of secretion. The relative composition of the ions was not affected by flow rate. Cloacal excretion decreased with a decreasing osmotic load, especially at those seawater concentrations that failed to stimulate the salt gland. This cloacal control is interpreted as a graded mechanism to dispose of osmotic loads. The cloacal system is stimulated to excrete by the same stimuli as the salt gland. Apparent selective Na* absorption by the cloaca was also noted.  相似文献

The concentrations of carboxyterminal cross-linked telopeptide of type I collagen (CTx), osteocalcin (OCN), parathyroid hormone (PTH) and insulin-like growth factor (IGF-I) were measured in the blood serum of two age groups of mares during late pregnancy (70–50 days before foaling), during early lactation and at the peak of lactation (10–30 and 55–80 days after foaling, respectively). During late pregnancy, the PTH was higher in older (8–19 years old), compared to younger animals (3.5–4 years old) (P < 0.05). The OCN was higher in younger group during late pregnancy (P < 0.05). IGF-I was higher in the younger group during early lactation, in comparison to late pregnancy and the peak of lactation (P < 0.05). IGF-I did not differ between two age groups of mares. The results indicate on the differences in adaptation of bone metabolism to late pregnancy and lactation in older animals, in comparison to younger animals, reflected by elevated PTH secretion.  相似文献

为探讨肺血管重建与肉鸡肺动脉高压形成的关系及肺外动脉舒张反应下降的原因,研究观察比较了正常鸡、亚临床腹水鸡和腹水鸡肺血管形态学上的变化。结果显示:腹水鸡和亚临床腹水鸡各种管径肺动脉的中膜都比正常鸡厚,而腹水鸡的又比亚临床腹水鸡的厚;肺动脉相对中膜厚度和相对中膜面积都与RV/TV呈极显著相关(P<0 001),并与mPAP、mRVP、LeadⅡS和SaO2呈显著或极显著相关(P<0 01,P<0 001)。对腹水鸡和亚临床腹水鸡肺外动脉的病理组织学观察结果为:随肺动脉压升高,肺外动脉内皮损伤逐渐严重,内膜逐渐纤维化和增生、增厚,并使整个管壁纤维化和增厚,内皮至平滑肌的间隙逐渐增宽,由大量成纤维细胞、结缔组织和胶原纤维组成。结果说明:以肺动脉中膜肥厚为特征的肺血管结构重建与肺动脉高压、右心肥大的关系极为密切,是导致肉鸡肺动脉高压发生发展的主要形态学因素;组织学上的结构变化使血管顺应性下降可能是造成肺外动脉对舒血管物质的舒张反应性下降的原因,非NO释放下降造成的。  相似文献

This case illustrates an unusual presentation of atrial fibrillation in a 10-year-old male neutered Maine coon. At the time of diagnosis of the arrhythmia the size of the left atrium determined by echocardiography was within normal limits and no structural or functional heart or other systemic disease was identified. Traditionally it has been suggested that the atria must be of a sufficient size in order to sustain atrial fibrillation (multiple wavelet theory) and therefore only cats with significant cardiac disease can attain sufficiently large atria to sustain this arrhythmia. To the author's knowledge this is the first detailed case report of sustained atrial fibrillation in a cat with a normal sized left atrium and no obvious structural heart disease seen on cardiac ultrasound.  相似文献

Pregnancy and lactation are periods of significant influence on bone metabolism that has not been investigated in equines. To examine the influence of late pregnancy and lactation on bone metabolism in mares, the changes in the blood serum/plasma total calcium (Ca), inorganic phosphates (Pi), pyridinoline (Pyd) and 17β-estradiol (E2) concentration and the bone alkaline phosphatase (BAP) activity were investigated. The samples were taken from 11 mares on 60 ± 10 and 20 ± 10 days before foaling, and 20 ± 10 and 60 ± 10 days after foaling. The concentration/activity of Ca, Pi, Pyd and BAP increased significantly in early lactation, but the Pyd than decreased in the 4th period. A significant correlation was observed between the E2 and bone metabolism parameters. The results indicate low maintenance of normocalcaemia with reduced bone synthesis in late pregnancy and prove the role of estradiol in bone metabolism in mares during pregnancy and lactation.  相似文献
