The purpose of this study was to assess the diagnostic utility of parathyroid ultrasonography to differentiate causes of hypercalcemia in dogs. We analyzed qualitative and quantitative ultrasound imaging findings and clinical pathology data from 33 dogs that underwent parathyroid ultrasound examination as part of the diagnostic evaluation for hypercalcemia. Diagnoses of the diseases causing hypercalcemia included parathyroid carcinoma (n = S), parathyroid adenoma (n = 15), parathyroid adenomatous hyperplasia (n = 6), chronic renal insufficiency (n = 3), and hypercalcemia of malignancy (n = 4). All parathyroid lesions were round or oval and hypoechoic compared with surrounding thyroid parenchyma. Adenomatous and adenocarcinomatous glands were 4 mm or larger in longest linear measurement on US examination and were statistically significantly larger than hyperplastic glands. (p < 0.001) Linear measurements of parathyroid glands acquired at the time of ultrasound examination correlated well with direct siz determination after surgical excision. (r2= 0.9, p < 0.0001) Parathyroid lesions <4 mm are highly suspicious for parathyroid adenoma or carcinoma, while US lesions <4 mm most likely represent primary adenomatous hyperplasia or secondary parathyroid hyperplasia. Parathyroid size estimation from ultrasound examination is an accurate predictor of true size.  相似文献

AIM: To determine whether caudatin, a C21 steroidal aglycone, enhances tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand(TRAIL)-associated HepG2 cell apoptosis. METHODS: Cell growth inhibition was determined by MTT assay and cell colony formation assay. The TUNEL apoptosis detection kit was used to analyze cell apoptosis, and the protein expression was examined by Western blotting. RESULTS: Combination of caudatin with TRAIL signi-ficantly reduced cell proliferation and increased the apoptotic rate of HepG2 cells compared with the use of each agent alone. This was evidenced by marked increases in caspase-3, caspase-7, caspase-9 and PARP cleavages in the cells treated with caudatin and TRAIL-compared with control group. Combination of caudatin with TRAIL also led to the strong suppression of survivin. CONCLUSION: Caudatin synergizes HepG2 cells to TRAIL-induced apoptosis by promoting the cleavages of caspase-3, caspase-7, caspase-9 and PARP and inhibiting the expression of survivin.  相似文献

The goal of this study was to determine the efficacy and tolerability of gemcitabine in dogs diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Eighteen dogs were examined retrospectively (4 massive HCC, 10 nodular HCC and 4 diffuse HCC). All dogs received gemcitabine at 350-400 mg m(-2) weekly for 5 weeks. Toxicity was graded using VCOG-CTCAE guidelines and response was monitored with serial abdominal ultrasounds. Fifteen dogs completed all five cycles. Toxicity was minimal and consisted of grade I/II vomiting, anorexia and diarrhoea and two episodes of grade III neutropenia. Median survival time for all dogs was 983 days. Median progression free interval was 971 days. Based on the results of this study, surgery remains the best treatment for HCC, despite incomplete resection. There was no improvement in the survival of those diagnosed with nonresectable HCC treated with gemcitabine chemotherapy.  相似文献

The kidneys of three clinically normal horses were evaluated ultrasonographically, utilizing a standardized approach. The normal renal architecture, including cortex, medulla, pyramids, renal sinus fat, collecting system, and intrarenal vessels, was evaluated.
A horse with hematuria was examined in the same manner and a mass was found in the right renal pelvis.
Ultrasonographic determinations were correlated with gross anatomy, clinical signs, and pathologic findings of a renal pelvic adenoma.  相似文献

An 11-year-old, male castrated, Labrador Retriever was evaluated for the presence of rapidly growing concurrent leg and intraocular masses. Metastasis was noted in the chest at time of initial presentation. Indium-111 labeled vitamin B12 imaging was performed, and there was significant uptake by both primary tumors and the lung metastases. Enucleation and amputation were performed for palliative relief. The leg mass was a grade 2 soft tissue sarcoma and the ocular mass a ciliary adenoma. The dog remained symptom-free for approximately 10 weeks before developing signs of respiratory distress. He was euthanized 12 weeks after initial presentation, and there was diffuse infiltration of the lungs with metastatic sarcoma. Indium-111 labeled vitamin B12 imaging identified a ciliary adenoma in this case and may provide a useful differentiation technique for evaluation of intraocular and retrobulbar masses if it can be demonstrated that there is differential uptake between inflammatory or infectious conditions and neoplasia.  相似文献

利用噬菌体环七肽库筛选与肝癌细胞特异性结合的多肽,并对其亲和力进行生物学鉴定。以HL-7702为消减细胞,HepG2为筛选靶细胞,对噬菌体随机环七肽库进行4轮全细胞消减筛选,并随机挑取60个阳性噬菌体克隆,以ELISA法鉴定其与HepG2细胞的结合活性,并取阳性克隆进行测序分析,并合成多肽进行免疫细胞化学染色鉴定。经4轮筛选,噬菌体在靶细胞HepG2上出现明显富集;利用ELISA从随机挑选的60个噬菌体克隆中得到15个与肝癌细胞具有高结合力的阳性克隆,测序并进行序列分析比对发现氨基酸序列无同源性,经免疫细胞化学染色鉴定后,发现1条多肽序列亲和力较高,为提高抗菌肽对肿瘤细胞的靶向杀伤作用奠定基础。  相似文献

CASE HISTORY: A 14-year-old neutered male Bearded Collie was presented with a history of recurrent, intermittent urinary incontinence of 7 years duration.

CLINICAL FINDINGS: A large, firm, non-painful mass was found in the mid-abdominal region on palpation. Ultrasonography of the mass revealed a compartmentalised structure with mixed echogenicity, and which did not appear to be associated with any of the abdominal organs. Ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirates contained several clusters of epithelial cells with cytological features of hepatocytes. At exploratory laparotomy, the mass was found in the gastrosplenic ligament within the greater omentum.

PATHOLOGICAL FINDINGS AND DIAGNOSIS: Histopathologically, the mass consisted of sheets of hepatocytes, but without the characteristic hepatic architecture. The cells showed moderate variation in nuclear size and were sometimes binucle- ate. A diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the mesentery was made.

CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The presence of ectopic hepatic tissue has been reported rarely in man and cats, but not in the dog. Neoplastic transformation of ectopic hepatic tissue is seen in man. This is the first report of the presentation, clinical findings and treatment of a dog with ectopic HCC.  相似文献
