Abstract:Abstract Remote sensing technology has long been used for collecting natural re-sources Inventory data. Geographic information System (GIS3 provides an effectivemeans for data analysis and management. However, accuracy, especially spatial accura-cy, of remotely sensed data and methods for extracting effective information and trans-ferring it to a GIS database have become important research topics. Global PositioningSystem (GPS) is an emerging technology used to determine accurately and timely spatialpositions of measurements. It is being widely used in the fields of surveying, mappingand navigation and is becoming an effective means for linking remote sensing and GIS. This article introduces the application of remote sensing, GIS, and GPS in BritishColumbia natural resources inventory. Practical issues and future development of thesetechniques are discussed. It is hoped that this article would provide some practical viewsand discussions that are useful to users in the field of forestry.
