Abstract: | Summary A theoretical isotherm is derived for wood, based on the assumption that the cell wall capillaries remain saturated with liquid water over the entire hygroscopic range, the capillaries themselves shrinking in size to accommodate losses of moisture.The rigidity of the capillary wall is assumed to increase linearly with decrease in relative humidity. The resulting isotherm covers the complete hygroscopic range and is based entirely on capillary condensation. |
