Abstract:The over male parent heterosis(OPH) and over control heterosis(OCH) of different agronomic traits and dry matter production of indica/javanica and japonica/javanica rice hybrids grown at Changsha, Hunan and Sanya, Hainan were studied. The results indicated that, at Changsha, the indica/javanica hybrids showed negative OPH in seed setting and number of grains per panicle; negative OCH in number of grains per panicle, seed setting, grain weight per plant and theoretic yield, and positive heterosis in all other characters. They also revealed that the japonica/javanica hybrids showed negative OPH in 1000 grain weight and seed setting, positive OPH in other traits; positive OCH in days to heading, culm height and number of panicles per plant, and negative OCH in other traits. Both the indica/javanica and japonica/javanica hybrid showed obvious OCH in dry weight per plant at heading stage and daily dry matter production per plant. At Sanya, the indica/javanica hybrid showed positive OCH in 1000 grain weight, culm height, number of panicles per plant, grain weight per plant and theoretic yield; the japonica/javanica hybrid showed positive OCH in 1000 grain weight, days to heading, culm height, panicle length, number of panicles per plant and seed setting. When data of Changsha and Sanya were compared, it was found that the OCH of all traits of indica/javanica hybrid except 1000 grain weight, number of grains per panicle and seed setting were significantly or highly significantly different from each other. But in japonica/javanica hybrid, only the OCH of days to heading of the sites were highly significantly different from each other, those of the OCH of all other traits were not significantly different.
