Abstract:Applying B_9 ( daminozide ) significantly reduced plant height, leaf area and number, but increased leaf thickness in Dendranthema morifolium 'Man Tian Fei Wu'.Microscopic observations revealed that B_9reduces cell number of stem by inhibiting cell division. It was also shown that application of B_9 increased chlorophyll content, respiration rate and peroxidase activity, resulting in the promotion of photosynthesis and metabolism as well as the inactivation of IAA. As a result, plant became short, compact and sturdy, having outstanding ornamental value.
