Abstract:Fisheries engineering concerns the development of the fisheries industry. It has not yet been systematized because the problems raised are so diverse and it is not easy to provide an organic link between the biological and engineering sectors. This paper is intended to present a definition and the significance or characteristics of fisheries engineering and to propose a methodology for it.The gist of this paper is: (1) the aim of fisheries engineering is to build up the environmental conditions for the forms of marine life concerned and (2) the six basic points which are derived serve as principles which should be applied to any kind of problem.
