| Abstract: | We examined short-term changes in neuroendocrine function during the onset of vitellogenesis by introducing female mosquitofish into a warm environment. Activation of FSH cells occurred prior to vitellogenesis, which was characterized by the production of estradiol-17β (E2) by follicles and following vitellogenin (Vg) synthesis in hepatocytes. Incorporation of Vg into the oocytes was detected less than three days after fish were transferred into a warm aquarium. |
