| Abstract: | The phenomenon that dams produce less milk or completely no milk after parturition is designated as postpartum hypogalactia.This phenomenon often occurs in sheep and goats,leading to insufficient energy,weakness,and even death of newborns as well as great economic loss in breeding industry.Postpartum hypogalactia in sheep and goats can be caused by breed,feeding management,stress,nutrition and diseases.Except for systemic diseases,the clinical symptoms of postpartum hypogalactia can be divided into simple milk insufficiency,mastitis and infectious agalactia.At present,there are three clinical methods for treating this disease,including traditional Chinese medicine therapy,Western medicine therapy and hormone therapy.The prevention of this disease contains high quality breed selection,feeding management,and vaccination.This article provided a comprehensive explanation on causes,clinical symptoms,treatment,and prevention of postpartum hypogalactia,which lay foundation for clinical application. |
