Study on the status of free radical and water during ultradrying in safflower seed

Abstract:Status of free radical and water in ultradried seeds with distinct moisture content were investigated in safflower seed. The results showed that the ratio of bulk water to bound water declined with the decrease of seed moisture content by ultradrying.. Ultradrying induced dramatical increase of free radical level in testa and pericarp, while the raising of free radical level in embryo occurred during aging after ultradrying. However prehumitification of seed which were ultradried or aged after ultradried induced sharp reduction of free radical level in embryo to a quite low level. Ultradrying slightly dropped germination rate, and seed vigor but strongly enhanced the aging resistant capability.
