Abstract:Atmosphere CO2 concentration is accumulating to an unprecedented concentration with human activities.The increase of CO2,an important substrate for photosynthesis,will affect plant growth and competitiveness.Therefore,it’s of great importance to explore the changes in alien plant competitiveness under the background of increasing CO2 concentration in the future.In this study,CO2 concentrations controlled by an artificial climate incubator were used to measure the changes in the competitiveness of invasive Wedelia trilobata in competition with the congenetic native W.chinensis.The results showed that,compared with W.chinensis,elevated CO2 reduced the biomass accumulation of W.trilobata,and significantly reduced the elongation of the stem(P=0.042).Although the stem length of the W.trilobata in mixed treatment did not show a significant difference,the competition eliminated the shortening of the stem length caused by the increase of CO2 concentration.On the whole,invasive plant W.trilobata could change the resource allocation to respond to a negative impact,caused by the increase of CO2 concentration,on its competitiveness,resulted in that more resources will be used for stem elongation to occupy more areas.
