| Abstract: | In 1979-1984,field experiments were carried out in northern ridge region,Jianghan plain,and eastern hilly area,in Hubei Province to determine the optimum developmental stage of cotton boll for insecticide spraying against pink bollworm Pectinophora gossypiella.In accordance with the results of Finlay''s and Tai''s analyses,the females prefered to oviposit on the bolls less than 25 days old,however,the egg loaded boll rate (18.84% of total egg loaded bolls) and egg number(18.82% of total egg number) in this stage were not too high,due to the narrow adaptability to pink bollworm.While the 25-30 days old bolls,which possessed broad adaptability and good stability to pink bollworm oviposition and had the highest egg loaded boll rate(52.17%) and egg number (50.19%),was the day attack stage of this insect.Thus,the 4 thirty days old bolls/plant in the beginning peak stage of oviposition of the second and third generation pink bollworm was stipulated as the developmental threshold for chemical control,and it was simple,easy,and feasible. |
