An intensive calf-rearing unit
Authors:DC Anderson MRCVS MACVSc

Abstract:Extract

There is increased interest in the possibility of rearing young calves in New Zealand for future beef production rather than slaughtering them in the first week of life. A large-scale intensive operation has been established at a dairy company at Edgecumbe, and it is desired to report on experience thus far gained with calves reared to 10 weeks of age, over the months August to December, 1973. The objective was to rear 1000 calves in two intakes of 500, but construction delays limited this to 635 calves.
