Abstract:The studies on physiological effects of BR on drought resistance in maize at different growth stages were conducted in 1987--1988. The results indicated that BR partook in regulating growth and metabolism of maize in many aspects. It could moderate influence of water stress on growth, plasma membrane permeability, nitrate reductase activity, ATP and chlorophyll content, photosynthesis rate etc., speed up the recovery of physiological processes after 7 days of drought and increase grain yield. As compared with other regulators in rising drought resistance of maize, BR was slightly inferior to NPK, but better than CCC.
