Abstract: | Female catfish (Clarias gariepinus), raised from eggs to maturity under hatchery conditions and kept at 25°C under a natural photoperiod, were injected with 17α-hydroxy-progesterone in order to induce oocyte maturation and ovulation. This was achieved using dosages of 8 μg/g body weight, administered in two successive injections of 3 and 5 μg/g, with a time interval of 4 h. Eggs could be stripped within 12.5 h after administration of the first injection. Most of the eggs could be fertilized and hatched normally. |
