Abstract:The toxicity of six synthetic pyrethroids, permethrin, cypermethrin, flucythrinate, fenvalerate, cyfluthrin and deltamethrin, were evaluated on two populations of potato tuber moth (PTM) Phthorimea operculella (Zeller) in Peru. Deltamethrin was most toxic with an LC50 of 120 μg/ml for male PTM from La Molina and 137 μg/ml for female PTM from San Ramon. Fenvalerate was least toxic and the other four insecticides were intermediate in toxicity. At field recommended concentrations (0·05-0·04%) none of the six synthetic pyrethroids were effective on the two populations tested.
