Abstract:In order to investigate the infection proportion and genetic changes of feline calicivirus(FCV),feline herpesvirus type 1(FHV-1)and feline influenza virus(FIV)in cats infected with upper re spiratory tract diseases(URTDs)in Shanghai City,53 conjunctival,oral and nasal mucosa swabs collected from pet cats showing the symptoms of URTDs in winters were detected to isolate and identify the above viruses,followed by genetic evolution analysis for the isolated viruses.The results showed that,for the 53 samples,the isolation rate was 58.49%(31/53)for FCV and 3.77%(2/53)for FHV-1;and no FIV was isolated.For FCV positive samples,the isolation rate was 46.67%(14/30)from the cats in pet hospitals,and up to 73.91%(17/23)from those in cat houses.The nucleotide homology of VP1 gene of 31 FCV isolates was lower,which was 72.9%-86.7%with the reference sequence and 75.3%-99.8%between each other.In conclusion,FCV was a major pathogen for URTDs in cats,with complex evolutionary relationship of virus and extensive sources,which should be further investigated and monitored.In the paper,a basis was thereby provided for future prevention,control and treatment of URTDs in cats,and a sound foundation for development of diagnostic reagents and vaccines against such diseases.
