Abstract: | Ernobius kailidisi Johnson is a new species which attacks the cones ofAbies cephalonica andA. borissi-regis in Greece. It is likeErnobius abietis, so that earlier was confused with it. It is an univoltine insect, the adults fly from April until June and deposite their eggs between the scales of the new fir-cones. The larvae have 5 instars, bore in the cone axis and eat on cone scales and seeds. New adults hatch in early September of the same year but they remain in the attacked cones. The insect overwinters as adult or as mature larva in the cones. |
