| Abstract: | By means of a kinetic UV-assay, lipase activity was determined in various organs of the fowl as well as laboratory, domestic and zoo animals and the resulting tissue distribution patterns were established for the respective species. For the validation of the assay, lipase contained in canine pancreatic extracts was inhibited by tetrahydrolipostatin, a selective inhibitor of pancreatic lipase. In all examined species, the pancreas proved to be the organ with the highest lipase activity. Apart from considerable individual variation with regard to the pancreatic content of lipase, important species differences were observed and the possible causes of these findings are discussed. |
