Abstract: | Experiments carried out in the laboratory at 28°C and 70±5% RH about the effect of food on the reproduction of Khapra Beetle showed that the rate of growth and the intensity of the population are related to quality and quantity as well as water content of food, whereby the population intensity is proportional related to the quantity of food. From the examined products wheat, extracted maizecakes and sunflowerexpeller are most suitable for rearing and reproduction of this pest. Cotton seed expeller and extracted groundnut-cakes are less suitable; coconut-, kopra-, and tucum-expeller, extracted linseed-cakes, and palm-cakes are not suitable. Khapra Beetle larvae reared in different kinds of food and having same size showed no significant differences in the susceptibility as they were tested against methyl bromide and to a mixture of methyl bromide + phosphine. |
