An hypothesis on the control of food intake in fish

Abstract:An hypothesis on the control of voluntary food intake (appetite) in fish is presented. According to the hypothesis, only two parameters are necessary to design a feeding regime which might result in maximum growth of fish in an aquaculture system. The necessary parameters are maximum voluntary food intake in one meal, and evacuation rate of the stomach. This hypothesis is discussed in relation to empirical data.
