Abstract: | Six male cultivars of Phoenix dactylifera L., Adi, Khukri, Wardi, Ghannami Akhdhar, Ghannami Ahmar and Sumaismi were analysed for esterase (EST), glutamate oxaloace- tate transaminase (GOT), leucine amino-peptidase (LAP), peroxidase (PRX) and acid phosphatase (ACP) isozymes using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE). There were no differences in the isozyme banding pattern between individual plants of the same cultivar. However clear differences were observed between the cultivars tested. Such differences included the number of isozymes, the relative mobility value and the intensity of the bands. The use of isozyme system as a genetic marker for date palm biochemical classification is discussed. |
