Abstract:The surface contact angle and the free energy reflect the wettability of wheat straw, which has agreat influence on the bonding strength of wheat straw panels. The objective of this study was to investigatethe surface contact angle and free energy of wheat straw. The surface contact angles of methane diisocyanate(MDI), urea-formaldehyde (UF), a mixture of MDI and UF on the different parts of wheat straw were tested,and the surface free energy of wheat straw was reckoned by testing the contact angle. The result shows thatthe surface free energy of wheat straw is low, and there are some differences in the cross and longitudinaldirection of wheat straw. Compared with UF, MDI has a better wettability on wheat straw.
