Abstract: | Numerous surgical procedures have been attempted to correct the immediate emergency associated with the gastric dilation-volvulus syndrome in the dog. These surgical procedures included anatomical repositioning alone, gastropexy, gastrotomy with an occasional partial gastrectomy, pyloric surgery, pharyngostomy tube, and splenectomy. None of these procedures has been shown to totally prevent recurrence of gastric volvulus. |
