Abstract:The small farmer, especially in developing countries, requires a system of selective mechanisation due to his peculiar problems of small holdings, low capital, poor technological environment and the constraints inherent in the traditional system of agriculture. The decision facing the small farmer is whether the purchase of available farm machinery will improve his net earnings and how best to utilise this machinery within the limitations of his operational constraints. This paper describes a simple procedure to assist such decision-making.
