| Abstract: | A dog with signs of small intestinal disease developed signs of severe large intestinal disease after being treated with multiple agents. Endoscopy and biopsy revealed total destruction of the colonic mucosa, which necessitated total parenteral nutrition plus subtotal colectomy. It was hypothesized that the multiple prior treatments led to an overgrowth of toxigenic or cytotoxic bacteria, which caused this colonic mucosal destruction. |
