Abstract:40 You 04 (4008S/Xiushui 04) was two-line japonica hybrid rice and 4008S was a photo-sensitive genic male sterile (PGMS) line newly-developed by Rice Research Institute of AAAS. It had been released to farmers since August 1999. In the Regional Trial of Late Japonica Rice Variety in Anhui in 1996 and 1997, it yielded a mean of 7.0 t/hm2, 8.6% higher than that of the check variety-Eyi 105, with a growth duration of 122 days. The height in plant was about 99 cm and it had strong tillering capacity and strong resistance to lodging. The percentage of seed-setting was more than 80% with a mean of 136 spikes/panicle and a 1000-grain weight of 25g. The combination was evaluated in the resistance to rice blast and bacterial leaf blight in Anhui and scored one to rice blast and five to bacterial leaf blight according to the standard of 0~9 scales. The high-yielding cultural techniques for the combination were also discussed.
