FAO initiatives in agroforestry training in Latin America

Abstract:In response to the request of its member countries from the Latin America and the Caribbean to help promote agroforestry, FAO has initiated a number of activities in the region. These include a regional project lsquoDemonstration and Training in Agroforestry in Latin Americarsquo, an lsquoInternational Workshop on the Formulation of a Project on Demonstration and Training in Agroforestry for the Amazonrsquo, held in January 1993, and the project lsquoParticipative Forestry Development in the Andesrsquo. Currently, FAO assistance to the countries of the region in their efforts to promote agroforestry include lsquoThe Latin American Technical Cooperation Network on Agroforestry Systemsrsquo, FAO's country-specific technical cooperation projects, and assistance in obtaining development-bank loans through missions of the lsquoFAO Investment Centerrsquo.
