Abstract:Source abatement decreased leaf net photosynthetic rate(Pn) and sink abatement increased Pn of irrigated wheat. However, the decreased or increased magnitude varied among genotypes. Decreasing source of the cultivars Lu215953, Shannong 48-2, Lumai 14, and Laizhou 953 induced less increment of Pn, but decreasing sink did significant declining. However, Lumai 15, Hesheng 2, D041 and Tai 780 have shown less decrement (significant addition) effects of source (sink) abatement on Pn. Source or sink manipulation influenced slightly Pn of rainfed wheat. This indicated the conspicuous effects of environmental factors, especially water, besides genotypes on Pn. Source abatement could enhanced the translocation of photosynthate into grains of the irrigated wheat. However, cv. Lumai 215953 increased more evidently than Lumai 15 did. Sink abatement had little effects on the translocation of photosynthate into grainsof Lumai 15, but decreased the translocation of photosynthate into grains and increased it into stem of cv. Lumai 215953. The production and distribution of photosynthates were very sensitive to source abatement in rainfed wheat. The source abatement lessened the distribution of photosynthates in the upper parts (including grains) of plant. Very little effects of sink abatement on the production of photosynthates occurred in rainfed wheat. This showed that grain sink size was not a factor limiting the production of photosynthates, but regulated the distribution of photosynthates. Sink abatement decreased translocation of photosynthates into grains and increased it in upper parts of the plant.
