A 10-year-old mixed-breed dog was examined because of a 6-week history of daily vomiting and sporadic diarrhea. On gastroscopy, a crateriform mass was observed on the greater curvature of the stomach. Partial gastrectomy and lymphadenectomy of a large mesenteric lymph node was performed. Gastric plasmacytoma with lymph node metastasis was diagnosed by histologic and immunoperoxidase methods, and chemotherapy was initiated with doxorubicin hydrochloride and diphenhydramine hydrochloride. The dog remains clinically normal 30 months after initial diagnosis. Although gastric plasmacytomas are rare in dogs, long-term survival appears to be better with this disease than with other types of gastric neoplasia.  相似文献

A young female Boxer had a history of chronic soft stool. Survey abdominal radiographs were unremarkable. A duodenal diverticulum was identified in abdominal ultrasound and barium upper-gastrointestinal contrast examinations. Before surgery a 99mTc-pertechnetate study was performed to evaluate for ectopic gastric mucosa in the duodenal diverticulum. Focal abnormal increased radioactivity was identified in the right caudal abdominal quadrant. The diverticulum was excised. Upon histopathologic examination of the duodenal diverticulum, ectopic gastric mucosa was not identified but ectopic pancreatic tissue was found. Mild eosinophilic inflammation within the diverticulum was suspected to be the cause of the mild 99mTc uptake seen in this dog.  相似文献

A nuclear imaging technique of the stomach, using technetium pertechnetate (99mTcO4), was evaluated in healthy dogs. The stomach was first insufflated with room air, then filled with barium sulfate to induce mild distention, outlining the gastric wall. Six dogs were imaged twice: initially without use of drugs that might affect gastric secretion of 99mTcO4, then after pretreatment with cimetidine and glycopyrrolate. These scans established the appearance of the normal (control) stomach and compared the quality of the image in the same dogs not pretreated, then pretreated with cimetidine and glycopyrrolate before administration of 99mTcO4. Avascular defects were then surgically created on the greater curvature of the stomach of the same 6 dogs, and gastroscintigraphy was performed in similar manner. Significant (P less than 0.05) quantitative differences were detected in the gastric images for scans of the avascular area, compared with various control scans. Qualitative assessment had overall accuracy of 90.28%. Results of the study reported here indicate that nuclear imaging can be a valuable diagnostic technique for detecting ischemic areas in the gastric wall of dogs.  相似文献

A case of peripheral neuropathy associated with lymphosarcoma in a dog is described. A 6-year-old flat-coated Retriever male was presented with urinary incontinence and lameness of the right hind leg. Five days after hospitalization the dog developed a right-sided facial paralysis. The dog was destroyed 3 weeks after admittance. The post-mortem examination revealed lymphosarcoma in the stomach and a peripheral neuropathy mainly affecting the femoral and facial nerves. The possible connection between the lymphosarcoma and the peripheral neuropathy is discussed.  相似文献

In this report the authors describe an unusual clinical presentation of lymphosarcoma (LSA) in a dog. A 9-year-old, neutered male, Golden Retriever was presented with a primary complaint of sudden onset of tetraparesis. Routine survey radiographs revealed multiple-site bony lesions and the histology revealed a diagnosis of LSA with diffuse skeletal and soft tissue involvement. The dog responded poorly to medical management and was euthanized on day two due to poor prognosis. Malignant LSA of the bone is a rare extranodal clinicopathologic entity and presents both a diagnostic and therapeutic hurdle. Reports of this kind are sparse and currently no optimal treatment for this entity has been determined.  相似文献

A seven‐year‐old West Highland white terrier was presented for chronic vomiting associated with mild regenerative anaemia and hypoalbuminaemia. Further examination showed a giant polypoid cerebriform mass located in the lesser curvature of the stomach. Partial gastrectomy was performed and histology was consistent with hypertrophic gastritis with typical features of Ménétrier's disease. Five years after surgery, the dog was re‐examined for recurrence of vomiting episodes. Endoscopy showed ulceration of the lesser curvature of the stomach and histological analysis revealed a poorly differentiated superficial gastric carcinoma surrounded by hypertrophic gastritis. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the second time that coexistence of these two types of lesions is reported, suggesting that recurrence of gastritis could be the starting point of the tumoural process.  相似文献

An adult Basset Hound was examined because of acute vomiting, signs of depression, dehydration, and signs of abdominal pain. Radiography revealed a soft tissue dense mass in the stomach. At exploratory laparotomy, 75% of the stomach was black, and the pylorus, proximal portion of the duodenum, and pancreas were found inverted into the stomach. The dog was euthanatized.  相似文献

An 8-year-old male Rottweiler was presented for recurrent episodes of dysphagia and vomiting with chronic weight loss. Radiography revealed a mediastinal mass in the heart base region. Necropsy revealed a firm, white mediastinal mass extending along the distal esophagus, through the diaphragm, to the gastric cardia, leftward to the convex visceral aspect of the fundus, and rightward along the lesser curvature of the stomach to the pyloric antrum. The gastric lymph node was enlarged and the omentum contained several nodules. Histologically, deep fundic mucosa contained pleomorphic, vacuolated cells with intracytoplasmic mucin, which was hyaluronidase resistant. Neoplastic cells were cytokeratin positive and vimentin negative. Transmural invasion was evidenced by the presence of cytokeratin-positive cells between smooth muscle bundles of the gastric wall. The mediastinal mass was composed of clusters of neoplastic cells in a stroma of dense and loose connective tissue. Neoplastic cells were also within blood and lymphatic vessels, tracheobronchial and gastric lymph nodes, and around peripheral nerves. This carcinoma most likely arose from the gastric fundus and extended to the cardia, from where it advanced proximally to the mediastinum as well as further rightward along the lesser curvature, demonstrating an anatomic continuity suggestive of a direct invasion. Metastasis, evidenced by the presence of lymphatic, blood, and perineural tumor emboli, also occurred.  相似文献

An 11-year-old, male Old English sheepdog was admitted for weight loss and intermittent vomiting of 1 month's duration. A cranioventral abdominal mass, anemia, hypoproteinemia, and hypoalbuminemia were the prominent abnormal findings. Imaging studies identified a remarkably thickened gastric wall with multilobulated folds protruding into the gastric lumen. Gastrotomy revealed the presence of giant cerebriform rugal folds arising from the fundus and body of the stomach. Pronounced gastric glandular hyperplasia and lack of evidence of cellular atypia were suggestive of giant hypertrophic gastritis. The dog was treated with prednisolone, cimetidine, and hyoscine butylbromide, only to experience a short-term remission.  相似文献

A 6-year-old female dog had a 3-day history of postprandial vomiting of undigested food. Plain and contrast radiography revealed a large mass on the greater curvature of the stomach. On exploratory gastrotomy, the mass was found to consist of hypertrophic rugae resembling cerebral gyri and sulci. The histopathologic findings were similar to those for hypertrophic gastropathy in man and the dog.  相似文献

Clinical, radiological and ultrasonographic findings from 22 cats with gastrointestinal lymphosarcoma were reviewed. The most common clinical findings were anorexia, weight loss, vomiting, lethargy, depression, fever, anemia and a palpable abdominal mass. Abdominal radiographs of 12 cats revealed a mass associated with the gastrointestinal tract and/or mesentery, and decreased serosal detail, suggestive of peritoneal effusion. The most common ultrasonographic finding was transmural gastric or intestinal thickening associated with loss of normal wall layering, reduced wall echogenicity and localized hypomotility. As is noted in people, other patterns such as transmural-segmental, transmural-nodular, transmural-bulky and mucosal infiltration were represented. In 3 cats, mesenteric lymph-adenopathy was responsible for most of the mass-effect. Fine-needle aspiration biopsy, automated microcore biopsy, endoscopic biopsy or necropsy confirmed the diagnosis of lymphosarcoma in all cats. Chemotherapy was instituted in 19 cats. Only 6 cats had a complete response to treatment. The results of this study indicate that ultrasonography is a valuable tool for the diagnosis of feline alimentary lymphosarcoma and that biopsies can be obtained under ultrasonographic guidance.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the accuracy of endoscopic biopsy (EB) specimens for diagnosis of alimentary tract lymphosarcoma in cats. DESIGN: Prospective study. ANIMALS: 22 cats with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or alimentary tract lymphosarcoma. PROCEDURES: Endoscopic biopsy specimens were obtained during endoscopy of the stomach and duodenum immediately prior to laparotomy or laparoscopic surgery, during which full-thickness biopsy (FTB) specimens were obtained. Accuracy of histopathologic diagnoses was compared between EB and FTB specimens. RESULTS: Lymphosarcoma was diagnosed in 10 cats on the basis of FTB specimens. Lymphosarcoma was detected in the jejunum and ileum in all 10 cats, in the duodenum in 9 cats, and in the stomach in 4 cats. In the same 10 cats, EB findings indicated a diagnosis of lymphosarcoma in 3 cats and were suggestive but inconclusive for lymphosarcoma in 3 cats. Lymphosarcoma was correctly diagnosed via gastric EB specimens in 3 of the 4 cats with gastric lymphosarcoma but evaluation of EB specimens led to an incorrect diagnosis of IBD in 4 cats with small intestinal lymphosarcoma. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: EB specimens were useful for diagnosis of gastric lymphosarcoma but were not adequate for differentiating between IBD and lymphosarcoma in the small intestine. Because the most common sites of alimentary tract lymphosarcoma in cats are the jejunum and ileum, FTB specimens of those sites should be obtained via laparotomy or laparoscopy for accurate diagnosis. Laparoscopy may be a minimally invasive alternative to endoscopy and laparotomy for obtaining diagnostic biopsy specimens.  相似文献

A 9-year-old Thoroughbred mare was examined because of pollakiuria, hematuria, and weight loss of 3 weeks' duration. Physical examination revealed a regular cardiac rhythm with occasional premature contractions, and a soft tissue mass in the pelvic canal palpable per rectum. Microscopic examination of urine sediment revealed numerous RBC and a large population of lymphocytes and lymphoblasts with characteristics of neoplasia. Similar cells were found in peritoneal fluid obtained by abdominocentesis. The horse was euthanatized without treatment. Necropsy revealed a soft tissue mass infiltrating the bladder, vagina, and uterus. Additional masses were found in the sublumbar muscles and myocardium. The histologic diagnosis was lymphosarcoma.  相似文献

Pythiosis is a chronic pyogranulomatous infection of the gastrointestinal tract or skin caused by the water borne pathogen Pythium insidiosum. The ultrasonographic features of nine dogs with gastrointestinal pythiosis are reported. The stomach, duodenum, jejunum or colon were affected. All dogs had thickening of the gastrointestinal wall and areas with obliteration of the normal layered appearance. In one dog an eccentric mass was found arising from the serosal surface of the wall of the colon with mild diffuse wall thickening. Regional lymph node enlargement was seen in seven of the nine dogs. One dog had invasion of the pancreas and signs compatible with extrahepatic biliary obstruction. When compared to previous reports of gastrointestinal neoplasia, the features of wall thickening, loss of layering and regional lymphadenopathy are not considered specific for gastrointestinal pythiosis. Histological examination of tissue specimens is required for diagnosis.  相似文献

Of 285 dogs with gastric volvulus treated surgically, 30 (10.5%) required partial gastrectomy because of necrosis along the greater curvature of the body or fundic region of the stomach. Initially, the 30 dogs were treated with intravenous administration of lactated Ringer's solution, antibiotics, and corticosteroids. The stomach was decompressed with an oral gastric tube or by percutaneous gastrocentesis. Diagnosis of gastric volvulus was made by abdominal radiography and confirmed at surgery. At surgery, the stomach was decompressed and repositioned. Gastric viability was determined by evaluation of serosal color and perfusion, vascular patency, the degree of active bleeding from the incised gastric wall, and by palpation of the gastric wall; intravenous fluorescein dye evaluation was performed in some dogs. Twenty-seven dogs developed postoperative complications, 19 (63%) of which died. Eleven dogs recovered.  相似文献

Objective— To report arthroscopic diagnosis and treatment of synovial hemangioma in a dog.
Study Design— Case report.
Animal— Standard Poodle (8-year-old neutered male).
Methods— A soft tissue density mass observed radiographically in the left stifle joint of a dog with a 2-month history of recurrent lameness, hemarthrosis, and a slight cranial drawer sign, was located by diagnostic arthroscopy and surgically excised via arthrotomy.
Results— Histologic evaluation revealed tissue composed of variably sized cavernous vascular spaces filled with erythrocytes that were considered compatible with synovial hemangioma.
Conclusions— In this dog, synovial hemangioma evident as a soft tissue mass on radiographs was associated with chronic lameness and hemarthrosis, and resolved with surgical excision.
Clinical Relevance— Synovial hemangioma, although seemingly rare in dogs, should be considered in the differential diagnosis for nontraumatic, recurrent lameness, and unresponsive to anti-inflammatory therapy when there is a circumscribed intracapsular soft tissue mass evident radiographically together with hemarthrosis.  相似文献

In helical hydro-computed tomography (helical hydro-CT), water is used as a neutral luminal contrast medium together with intravenous iodine contrast medium for the diagnosis and staging of human gastric neoplasia. We evaluated the feasibility of helical hydro-CT in 11 healthy animals (nine dogs and two cats). Adequate uniform gastric distension was obtained with 30 ml water/kg body weight. Fourteen client-owned dogs and four cats with suspected or diagnosed gastric neoplasia then underwent helical hydro-CT followed by intravenous contrast medium administration. Focal thickening with moderate contrast enhancement was found in 10 dogs and 3 cats. The extent of the lesion was assessed easily in all these patients. Three dogs and one cat had a normal stomach wall. One dog had multifocal thickening of the antrum but no histopathologic diagnosis was made. Helical hydro-CT, followed by intravenous contrast medium administration, is a simple technique for assessing the stomach wall.  相似文献

SCINTIGRAPHIC EVALUATION OF SOLID-PHASE GASTRIC EMPTYING IN THE DOG   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A technique for scintigraphically quantitating solid-phase gastric emptying in the dog was developed in a Beagle model. The test meal was determined to empty in a linear fashion, indicating a solid-phase label. The evaluation was performed on a group of dogs presented for gastrointestinal signs that were judged to have normal liquid barium sulfate fluoroscopic and radiographic studies. The results of this study indicate that this technique is valuable for identifying those patients with surgically correctable pyloric obstruction that exhibit normal gastric emptying of liquid barium.  相似文献

Bite wounds of the chest wall in small dogs can extend into the thorax and can be associated with severe damage to chest wall muscles, ribs, and lungs. Two major problems associated with the management of these wounds are lack of sufficient muscle tissue for chest wall reconstruction, and difficulty draining the extensive dead space created in the chest wall. We describe a simple method to overcome these problems. The bite wound areas were surgically explored and all devitalized soft tissue was debrided. The pleural cavity was explored, intrathoracic injuries repaired, and a thoracic drainage tube was placed. Ribs in the injured area were stabilized in anatomic position by means of heavy gauge sutures passed around pairs of adjacent ribs, thus creating a scaffolding for soft tissues. Viable muscle and subcutaneous tissues were apposed as much as possible and the skin closed over the defect. Eleven small dogs were treated using this technique. All dogs had severe injuries to the thoracic wall muscles and eight dogs had multiple rib fractures. There was no evidence of chest wall instability in any of the dogs after surgery. Nine dogs survived the injury and were reevaluated 3 to 32 months after surgery. All were clinically normal. One dog developed wound infection and pyothorax, caused by insufficient debridement of injured muscle tissue, and died 10 days after surgery. A second dog died 24 hours postoperatively of undetermined causes.  相似文献
