The phenotypic variation found in four common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) complex primitive landraces, among a group of accessions collected in Northwestern Argentina in several missions is described, with particular attention to the wide diversity found in some small areas. It is presented a hypothesis about the maintenance of such diversity in bean mixtures or complex primitive landraces that grow close to their wild relative. Wide diversity regarding to seed type and plant characteristics was displayed by the landraces MCM-SV (composed of 11 lines), MCM-292 (14 lines), MCM-298 (5 lines) and VAV-3716 (14 lines). Food uses of dry seed and fresh pod seemed to be more relevant than the aesthetic use although all of them were presumably considered by humans for centuries resulting in the current phenotypes of these complex primitive landraces. Additionally, some weedy types (intermediate between wild and domesticated types) were detected in the landracesMCM-292 and MCM-298. The four complex landraces described consisted of highly diverse mixtures and they could play a role in breeding to enlarge the genetic basis of domesticated bean varieties belonging to the Andean gene pool. 相似文献

In this study, we investigated the genetic variation of allelopathic potential, its grey correlation with important agronomic
characters, and rank analysis on allelopathic stability of fifteen wheat accessions commonly grown in arid regions of the
Loess Plateau in China. The genetic variation of allelopathic property in dryland winter wheat showed significant differences
between accessions. Allelopathic effects exhibited high heritability (55–95%) throughout the life cycle of wheat. Heritability
was highest in the tillering stage and weakest in the seed filling stage. Allelopathic potential varied and was discontinuous
throughout the wheat life cycle. Grey correlation analysis indicated a close relationship between allelopathic potential dependant
on growth phase and agronomic characters. Allelopathic expression during some growth periods induced a partial correlation
effect on some important agronomic characters that affected wheat yield. Allelopathic heritability and its degree of influence
on yield were more evident in the vegetative growth stage compared to the reproductive stage. A multiple linear regression
was built between allelopathic potential during different growth periods and agronomic characters pursued in wheat breeding.
Allelopathic potential had a linear effect on production traits cultivated in wheat breeding. When allelopathic intensity
varied from 0 to 1 in the reproductive stage, plant height ranged from 44 to 108 cm, spike length from 6.4 to 9.2 cm, number
of spikelets with seeds from 13.4 to 21.0, mean seed number per spike from 41.5 to 50.3 and thousand seed weight from 36.2
to 38.3 g. Based on rank analysis, we concluded that there was a synergistic relationship between allelopathic potential in
wheat and genetic, chemical and ecological factors. Triticum aestivum L. ‘No 6 Lankao’ and T. aestivum L. ‘No 22 Xiaoyan’ were identified as stable and relatively strong allelopathic accessions, whereas T. aestivum L. ‘Lankao 95–25’ was a stable but relatively weak allelopathic cultivar. Other varieties showed unstable allelopathic potential. 相似文献

The genetic diversity among 67 melon (C. melo L.) cultivars from five Japanese seed companies was assessed using 25 10-mer
RAPD primers (56 bands) and nine SSR (36 alleles) markers. These cultivars belong to three horticultural varieties (synom.
Groups) spanning eight melon market classes: Group Cantalupensis (market classes Earl’s, House, Galia, Charentais, and Ogen),
Group Inodorus [Honeydew and Casaba melons (market classes Amarillo, Piel de Sapo, Rochet, Negro, Crenshaw, and Tendral)],
and Group Conomon (market class Oriental). Genetic variation among these cultivars was compared to variation in a reference
array (RA) consisting of 34 selected melon accessions from previous studies. Cluster analysis resulted in 11 of 15 Japanese
Oriental accessions forming a group with South African RA accessions. The remaining Group Conomon Japanese accessions grouped
either with Casaba or with Honeydew cultivars. Japanese Group Conomon accessions and South African RA accessions formed a
genetic group that was distinct from all other accessions studied, and suggests either an Asiatic origin for the South African
melon germplasm examined or an independent domestication involving similar ancestors. The majority of Japanese House and Earl
market class accessions shared genetic affinities, and were genetically different from the Japanese Group Inodorus accessions
examined. These Japanese accessions were most similar to Casaba RA accessions. Japanese Galia accessions were similar to either
House and Earl’s market classes or to Galia, Ogen, Casaba, and Honeydew RA accessions. Genetic differences exist between melon
types that were domesticated from wild, ‘free-living’ subspecies agrestis and from melo.

Morphological variation of the coconut fruit measured in situ has been used to estimate genetic diversity, and generate hypotheses
about the evolutionary and geographical diffusion of coconut. Some authors have questioned the validity of this methodology
due to the possibly high effect of the environment on the morphological characteristics of the fruit. The general aim of this
study is to validate this methodology through: (1) characterizing the pattern of morphological variation of the fruit under
homogeneous growing conditions ex situ; (2) comparing this pattern with those already reported in situ; (3) estimating the
heritability values for the components of fruit in coconut. Results are also discussed in comparison with ex situ leaf variation
and biochemical and molecular variation patterns previously studied. Principal components and discriminant analyses indicated
that the characters that best differentiate groups are basically the same in situ and ex situ. Grouping patterns obtained
with principal components and cluster analysis were similar for both growing conditions. They were also similar to the grouping
pattern obtained with ex situ leaf characters. No significant differences were found in the variation coefficients of fruit
characters between the same populations in situ and ex situ. Consistency was found between patterns of morphological variation
of fruit ex situ and in situ, and those obtained using iso-enzymatic and molecular characteristics. The results are also consistent
with hypotheses on the origin and diffusion of the germplasm introduced to Mexico. High values of heritability were found
in nine characters. Weight and water percentage showed the highest values (0.88 and 0.883), with a strong correlation to the
mass and the roundness of fruit and seed, suggesting that human selection of these characteristics led to the differentiation
of domesticated populations. We conclude that morphological characterization of the coconut fruit in situ is useful to estimate
its genetic variability because of its simplicity, speed and ease of application in the field and in remote areas. 相似文献

SDS PAGE of endosperm proteins and␣RAPD profiles from different accessions of Himalayan buckwheat were studied to determine
their genetic variation and phylogenetic relationships. Comparisons based on Jaccard’s coefficient and UPGMA clustering revealed
interrelationships broadly in conformity with conventional treatments. Cluster analysis of the endosperm protein profiles
of the selected accessions revealed three broad clusters. A moderate level of intraspecific variability was detected in the
endosperm protein profile of different accessions of Fagopyrum esculentum, Moench. Three subgroups were detected in cluster 1. Subgroup 1 included varieties designated as Local, Kamroo local, OC-2
and␣VL-7 which were collected from VPKAS, Almora. Local, Kamroo local and OC-2 showed a similarity coefficient of 1.0 inspite
of their being identified as different accessions. VL-7 emerged out separately from the rest of the three accessions. Accessions
having winged grains and those having striations on the seed coat formed a 2nd and 3rd subgroup, respectively. IC-13145 which
been identified as “F. himalianum”, showed 100%␣similarity in endosperm protein profile with IC-13376 (F. esculentum) and 85–90% similarity which other accessions of F. esculentum. Our results indicate that “F. himalianum” belongs to the esculentum group and should not be regarded as a different species. Cluster 2 included all the accessions of F. tataricum (L.) Gaertn. with Sangla 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and IC-412863 showing 100% similarity. F. cymosum emerged as a separate group distinct from both esculentum and tataricum. Accessions of F. tataricum and F. cymosum did not show significant intraspecific variation in the SDS PAGE profile of endosperm proteins. Out of the 20 primers used,
3 generated robust, easily interpretable amplified products. While a 1490 bp and a 300 bp RAPD was detected only in F. tataricum, a 1154 bp RAPD was detected in all accessions of F. tataricum except in Shimla B-1. This variety is early maturing and has high seed yields. 相似文献

Pigeonpea germplasm accessions collected from low (<500 m), medium (501–1000 m), high (1001–1500 m) and very high elevation
zones (>1500 m) of Kenya were evaluated for 15 agronomic traits and seed protein content at ICRISAT, Patancheru, India. There
were significant differences (P < 0.001) among elevation zones for the number of primary and secondary branches, days to 75% maturity, pod length, seeds per
pod, 100-seed weight and seed yield. Mean values indicated that the accessions from low elevation zone were significantly
different from those collected in higher elevation zones for early flowering and maturity, number of primary branches, pod
length, number of pods per plant, seeds per pod, 100-seed weight, seed yield and harvest index. None of the accessions collected
in Kenya belonged to extra early (<80 days to 50% flowering) and early (80–100 days to 50% flowering) maturity groups, as
defined by time to flowering at Patancheru, India. Mean diversity index based on all characters indicated that accessions
from the low elevation zone are more diverse than those from the higher elevation zones. Frequency distribution for trait
extremes indicated that the accessions from the low elevation zone were early to flower and mature, short statured, produced
more primary and secondary branches with high pod bearing length, long pods, more pods per plant, more seeds per pod, a high
seed yield and harvest index. Accessions from the very high elevation zone were late flowering, with a large number of tertiary
branches, large seeds and a high shelling percentage and could be a source for cold tolerance and the breeding of vegetable
types. Results suggest that the elevation of collection sites is therefore a very important determinant of variation patterns
of pigeonpea in Kenya. 相似文献

Variability studies were carried out among different accessions of Argyrolobium roseum for 12 metric traits under natural and cultivated conditions. Almost all characters showed higher values in cultivated than
natural population. Leaf breadth recorded highest CV (30.59%). Highest percentage of vitexin and D-pinitol (0.208 and 0.773%
dwb) was observed in RAR-7 and RAR-6, respectively, under cultivated conditions. Phenotypic coefficient was higher than genotypic
coefficient of variation. The association analysis revealed that root yield had positive significant correlation with 100
seed weight (r=0.839) biomass yield (r=0.601), where biomass yield had a positive significant correlation with leaf length, single pod weight. High heritability
(97.4–99.8%) coupled with moderate genetic advance ranged between (49–67%) as a percent of mean was observed for leaf breadth,
pod length, total foliage biomass yield and total root yield/plant. This suggests that direct selection for these traits is
suitable for the improvement of this crop. 相似文献

AFLP markers were used to characterize diversity and asses the genetic structure among 17 accessions of kale landraces, cultivars
and wild populations from Europe. The range of average gene diversity in accessions was 0.11–0.27. Several landraces showed
higher levels of diversity than the wild populations and one cultivar had the lowest diversity measures. The landraces that
were most genetically diverse were from areas where kales are known to be extensively grown, suggesting in situ conservation in these areas as a supplement to storage of seeds in gene banks. An analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA)
showed that 62% of the total variation was found within accessions. For most accessions, genetic distance was not related
to geographic distance. Similarities among accessions were probably not caused by recent gene flow since they were widely
separated geographically; more likely the relationship among them is due to seed dispersal through human interactions. Our
results indicate that a kale population found in a natural habitat in Denmark was probably not truly wild but most likely
an escape from a cultivated Danish kale that had subsequently become naturalized. 相似文献

Lupinus angustifolius L. is a Mediterranean species, domesticated in the 20th century, representing an important grain legume crop in Australia
and other countries. This work is focused on the collection of wild germplasm and on the characterisation of morphological
and molecular diversity of germplasm accessions. It reports the collection of 81 wild L. angustifolius accessions from the South and Centre of Portugal, available at the ‘Instituto Superior de Agronomia Gene Bank’, with subsequent
morphological and molecular characterisation of a selection of these and other accessions. A multivariate analysis of morphological
traits on 88 L. angustifolius accessions (including 59 wild Portuguese accessions, 15 cultivars and 14 breeding lines) showed a cline of variation on wild
germplasm, with plants from Southern Portugal characterised by earlier flowering, higher vegetative development and larger
seeds. AFLP and ISSR molecular markers grouped modern cultivars as sub-clusters within the wider diversity of wild germplasm,
revealing the narrow pool of genetic diversity on which domesticated accessions are based. The importance of preserving, characterising
and using wild genetic resources for L. angustifolius crop improvement is outlined by the results obtained. 相似文献

The present study, using RAPD analysis, was undertaken to characterize genetic variation in domesticated cowpea and its wild progenitor, as well as their relationships. The materials used consisted of 26 domesticated accessions, including accessions from each of the five cultivar-group, and 30 wild/weedy accessions, including accessions from West, East and southern Africa. A total of 28 primers generated 202 RAPD bands. One hundred and eight bands were polymorphic among the domesticated compared to 181 among wild/weedy cowpea accessions. Wild accessions were more diverse in East Africa, which is the likely area of origin of V. unguiculata var. spontanea. Var. spontanea is supposed to have spread westward and southward, with a loss of variability, loss counterbalanceed in southern Africa by introgressions with local perennial subspecies. Although the variabilty of domesticated cowpea was the highest ever recorded, cultivar-groups were poorly resolved, and several results obtained with isozyme data were not confirmed here. However primitive cultivars were more diverse than evolved cultivars, which still suggests two consecutive bottlenecks within domesticated cowpea evolution. As isozymes and AFLP markers, although with a larger number of markers, RAPD data confirmed the single domestication hypothesis, the gap between wild and domesticated cowpea, and the widespread introgression phenomena between wild and domesticated cowpea. 相似文献

An investigation was conducted to determine the extent of diversity and relationships among a worldwide safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) germplasm collection and to find out adapted accessions that can be used in an organic safflower breeding program in
Germany. A total of 468 accessions was studied under organic farming conditions at Kleinhohenheim experimental station during
the seasons of 2004 and 2005. All the accessions were evaluated for 12 phenotypic traits and three rated diseases. Multivariate
analyses have been used to measure the diversity in a subset of 200 accessions and 11 geographical regions. Generally, the
study showed that there was a large genetic variation within accessions. A coefficient of variation (CV%) for investigated
traits and diseases ranged from 2.9 to 91.0% with the highest CV was recorded for yield/m2, yield/plant and seeds/plant. The
most accessions that originated in Europe revealed relatively better performance compared to non-Europeans. High yielding,
early maturing, and disease tolerant accessions were identified. However, the low oil content (8.7–22.8%) is the primary concern
in this germplasm collection. The degree of heritability varied between 10% for lodging to 86% for plant height. Genotypic
coefficient of correlation (r
g) was slightly higher for many traits than the respective phenotypic coefficient. Oil content and seed yield/m2 were highly
significantly correlated (r
g = 0.78). The genotypic coefficient of correlation showed that selection for seeds/plant and thousand kernel weight was effective
for improvement of seed yield and oil content. The results of the principal component analysis and the clustering pattern
of accessions were consistent with the results of analysis of variance. About 78% of the total phenotypic diversity in the
germplasm was explained on the basis of four principal components and 88% of the total variation among geographical regions
was contributed by the first three principal components. The distribution of the accessions within clusters has no apparent
relationship with the geographical origin. However, many of the European accessions have a tendency to stay together. 相似文献

Madhuca longifolia (Koenig) J. F. Macbride is native to India. Seeds contain 20–50% oil (Mahua oil) and the seed cake is used as manure. Mahua
oil is used by rural communities for protection against storage pests. Almost all parts of this tree have medicinal properties.
Four explorations and collection missions was conducted during July–October 2007 in Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of
Puducherry. This resulted in the collection of 55 accessions. Characterisation and analysis of 7 seed characters were done.
The existence of enormous variability in seed length, thickness and 100 seed weight indicates scope for utilization of these
accessions for selection of promising material for extraction of oil. Oil content of kernels has been evaluated. Kernel oil
ranged from 44.43 to 61.50%. Three accessions IC556617 with 61.50, IC556632 with 60.80 and IC556632 with 60.55% of kernel
oil are superior to the rest. Further collections in the site of these oil rich accessions are promising for more productive
Madhuca longifolia genetic resources. 相似文献

This study examines the relationship between spike morphology and natural habitat for 84 accessions of four Aegilops species, belongs to section Sitopsis, Ae. bicornis, Ae. longissima, Ae. searsii, and Ae. sharonensis in genus Aegilops, section Sitopsis, wild relatives of Triticum aestivum L. These species are considered valuable genetic resources for future cultivation and breeding of domesticated wheat. The goals of the study were to: (1) document variation in spike morphology among these four species; (2) examine the relationship between spike morphology and native habitat; (3) document geographical distribution of distinct spike morphology; and (4) examine the relationship between spike morphology and heading time and value for these four species. The results reveal significant differences in spike morphology among species of section Sitopsis. The most noteworthy variation involved the absence/presence of lateral awn, such that species with lateral awn were restricted in coastal, though species without lateral awn were mainly distributed in inland. This suggests that local climate may be a determinant of variation in lateral awn, and that this trait may be subject to convergent evolution. Differences in heading time in sympatric area were also observed. The differences may enhance species divergence and could represent a lead speciation event. The results of this study will facilitate identification of populations or accessions of wild wheat with favorable traits and/or novel adaptive genes. 相似文献

Crop domestication has lead to the selection of a wide range of traits that distinguish domesticated crops from their wild
ancestors. Over the past four decades, concerted efforts by archaeologists and geneticists have provided novel insights into
the domestication of crops. However, minor crops are rarely a subject for intensive domestication studies and very less is
known on the domestication of guar [Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub.] except the trans-domestication hypothesis. The hypothesis proposes that the domestication of guar took place
in recent times in the dry areas of the northwestern region of Indo-Pakistan subcontinent and the African wild species, C. senegalensis Guill. et Perr., as its ancestor. However, the process by which the wild species was domesticated is not fully understood.
The present paper describes the exploration, collection and in situ characterization of the primitive weedy forms of guar that could be the missing link between the wild and cultivated species.
Adak guar is found to grow along with cultivated guar as a weed and is characterized by several primitive characters, prominent
among which are spreading habit, small inedible pods which shatter at maturity, hard seed coat and seed dormancy. A total
of 66 germplasm collections of these primitive weedy forms of guar have been made from naturally occurring populations in
the arid regions of northwestern India. Systematic studies involving these primitive weedy forms can help in understanding
the domestication bottlenecks and in utilizing the genetic variation lost during the process of domestication for the improvement
of cultivated guar. 相似文献

Ullucus tuberosus (common name ‘ulluco’) is a popular tuber crop of Andean highlands. Until now attention has been focused on ulluco from Bolivia,
Peru and Ecuador, but little is known about its diversity in Colombia. Thirty-six accessions of cultivated ulluco preserved
in the Gene Bank of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia were studied to assess the genetic diversity and spatial genetic
structure of Colombian ulluco. We used morphological characters, molecular markers (total proteins, isozymes and RAPDs) and
ploidy level. High morphological variability, especially for tuber shape and colour characters, was found. Eight accessions
from north-east Colombian Andes showed some typical character-states of wild ulluco, suggesting that they could be partially
domesticated forms. Genetic analysis using RAPD markers indicated that these accessions were very similar to other cultivated
ullucos belonging to the same region. The regional structure observed in isozyme and RAPD dendrograms was confirmed by AMOVA
results (52.6% among-region variation) and the spatial correlogram, showing the presence of two gene pools of ulluco in Colombia.
Our results and the accumulated data suggest that ulluco was introduced to Colombia at least two times. Initially, semi-domesticated
forms would have come from the central Andes to north-east Colombian Andes, where the native inhabitants would have completed
the domestication process. Again, fully domesticated ullucos might have been introduced to south-west Colombian Andes. 相似文献

The origin of lentil from the taxon Lens culinaris subsp. orientalis has been proved by morphological evidence and breeding experiments. This wild form exhibits variation in many characters and is distributed over a vast area from the Middle-East to central Asia. Characters that are polymorphic in the wild progenitor but monomorphic in the cultigen can be utilized for better identification of the genetic stock which gave rise to the domesticated lentil. Three characters of that kind have been identified in lentil: chromosomal architecture, crossability potential and restriction pattern of chloroplast DNA. Nearly all accessions of the cultivated lentil tested to these three characters have been found monomorphic, but considerable polymorphism exists in the wild accessions. Three subsp. orientalis accessions have been shown to share the above characters with the cultigen and hence can be regarded as members of the genetic stock from which lentil was domesticated. These three accessions originated from eastern Turkey and northern Syria. 相似文献

Morphological and physiological seed characteristics of the hyacinth bean (Lablab purpureus) were investigated in a set of 18 different germplasm accessions, from wild over semi-domesticated forms to landraces and current cultivars. The objective of this study was to improve the understanding of the domestication of this tropical legume crop. Wild accessions were easily distinguished by morphological characters, such as small, greyish-brown, mottled seeds. Cultivated or semi-domesticated forms showed a much wider variation in size, colour and shape. Seed mass of cultivated accessions reached up to almost 10 times that of wild accessions. Most wild accessions showed a greater spread of germination and larger proportions of hard seeds, up to about 70%, than most cultivated and so-called semi-domesticated accessions. Cluster analysis applied separately to morphological and germination data and a subsequent discriminant analysis did not help integrating the morphological variability observed. The presumed occurrence of semi-domesticated accessions within the germplasm tested as well as the crop's origin from Africa alone or both Africa and Asia are debated on the basis of seed germination and hard seed coat dormancy. 相似文献

Levels of genetic variation and genetic structure of 15 wild populations and three domesticated populations of Capsicum annuum were studied by RAPD markers. A total of 166 bands (all of them polymorphic) and 126 bands (125 of them polymorphic) were
amplified in wild and domesticated populations, respectively. Mean percentage of polymorphism was 34.2% in wild populations
and 34.7% in domesticated populations. Mean and total genetic diversity were 0.069 and 0.165 for wild populations and 0.081
and 0.131 for domesticated populations. Parameters of genetic diversity estimated from 54 bands with frequencies ≥1 − (3/n) (n = sample size) showed that 56.7% of the total variation was within and 43.3% among wild populations, whereas 67.8% of the
variation was within and 32.2% among domesticated populations. AMOVA indicated that total genetic diversity was equally distributed
within (48.9 and 50.0%) and among (50.0 and 51.1%) populations in both wild and domesticated samples. Wild and domesticated
populations were clearly resolved in a UPGMA dendrogram constructed from Jaccard’s distances (average GD = 0.197), as well
as by AMOVA (17.2% of variance among populations types, p = 0.001) and by multidimensional scaling analysis. Such differentiation can be associated with domestication as well as different
origin of gene pools of the wild (Northwestern Mexico) and cultivated (more probably Central Mexico) samples analyzed. The
considerable genetic distances among cultivars (average GD = 0.254) as well as the high number of diagnostic bands per cultivar
(33 out of 126 bands), suggest that genetic changes associated with domestication could have resulted from artificial selection
intervening in different directions, but the inclusion of more domesticated samples might clarify the nature of distinctions
detected here. 相似文献

Limited biochemical information is available on soybean accessions that have seed protein content greater than 45% of the seed dry weight. SDS-PAGE analysis of seed proteins from nine soybean accessions revealed significantly higher amount of seed storage proteins in these accessions when compared with that of soybean cultivar Williams 82. High-resolution two-dimensional gel electrophoretic analysis of seed proteins revealed significant differences among several seed storage protein components in these accessions. A total of 51 protein spots were identified using peptide mass fingerprinting (MALDI-TOF MS). The contribution of these proteins to the overall protein content of the accessions was quantified using Delta2D image analysis software. Results showed that among the majority of the nine accessions, the largest difference in higher protein quantity was within the seed 11S storage globulins. The high protein trait from PI407788A was successfully transferred to an experimental line, LG99-469, demonstrating that this trait was transferable and robust. 相似文献
