Gastric evacuation rates of the gilthead sea bream, Sparus aurata, fed with commercial pelleted food and polychaetes (Nereis diversicolor) were determined under experimental conditions. The estimated gastric evacuation rate for pelleted food was 7.97% h–1, with a total time of digestion of approximately 9 h. The respective values for the natural food were 6.24% h–1, with a total digestion time of approximately 12 h. The daily consumption of fish reared in earth ponds in a semi-intensive aquaculture facility was estimated through 24 h cycles performed between April and August. The daily consumption varied from 18.58 to 31.98 mg g–1. There was a constant increase in the average daily consumption per individual of 1.8–4.6 g (dry weight). During these cycles, samples of stomachs were taken and the contents preserved for further observation. The feeding behaviour of the reared fish was compared with a fish sample caught in the Ria Formosa lagoon. No common species were found between samples. A total of 38 prey were identified, which suggests that the gilthead sea bream is a non-specific predator. Despite the high abundance of natural prey in the ponds, the dependence of sea bream on pelleted food was high.  相似文献

Low temperature has been implicated in inducing outbreaks of winter syndrome or winter disease in farmed gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata). The responses of gilthead sea bream to reduced temperature followed by maintenance at low temperaturewere studied. In a first experiment, oxygen consumptionwas measured when water temperature was reduced from 18°C to 8 °C at either a rate of 1 °C· day-1 or as two sharp drops (from 18 °C to 12 °C, and from 12 °C to 8 °C). In a second experiment, the water temperature was reduced from 16 °C to 8 °C or 12 °C and then maintained for 20 days to study the fish acclimation to these temperatures. In both experiments, fish stopped feeding below 13 °C and did not resume feeding when maintained at low temperatures. The decrease in metabolic activity, expressed by the oxygen consumption rate, was directly related to the fall in water temperature: the Q10(18 °C-8 °C) values were between 2.2–2.5, independently of the descend rate in water temperature. However, we observed a more reduced metabolic rate when the water temperature was below 12 °C. Fish maintained at low temperatures showed only a partial recovery in oxygen consumption (15% at 8 °C and 20% at 12 °C) after 20 days. A higher metabolic rate together with a fasting-temperature condition meant that maintenance at 12 °C was more aggressive than at 8 °C, as revealed by the condition factor and energy needs. Data suggest that 12 .C could be a threshold temperature for the metabolic activity of gilthead sea bream. The relationship between low temperatures and their possible implication in the appearance of winter disease in gilthead sea bream is also discussed.  相似文献

Juveniles of gilthead sea bream, Sparus auratus L., with individual weight 1.92 g, were reared under salinities of 8, 18, 28 and 38%o. The transfer to lower salinities (8-28%o) was abrupt. The results showed that better daily growth rates and food conversion efficiencies (FCE) when growing at 28%o gave the best performance. Statistically, salinity values above 28%o do not significantly affect daily growth rates and daily voluntary food intake. Maintenance requirement decreases linearly with increasing salinity. In particular, a l%o decrease of salinity is associated with a 0.014 (% body weight day-1) increase of daily maintenance requirement. Mortality rates are high at salinities of 8 and 38%o (65% and 20% respectively) and minimal (1-3%) for fish reared under intermediate salinities (18-28%o). Finally, scope for growth, expressed as the minimum difference between food amount eaten and food attributed to growth, is better when the fish are kept at a salinity of 28%o. This means that most of the food amount eaten is attributed to growth and food wastage is minimal. These results confirm that gilthead sea bream fry show best performance when reared at a salinity of 28%o.  相似文献

The diel pattern of haematocrit, serum metabolites, electrolytes and thyroid hormones are described in sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax, and sea bream, Sparus auratus, held under 12L:12D light cycle (0600–1800 h light). No diel rhythmicity in haematocrit, total proteins, potassium and chloride was observed. Maximum values of glucose, osmotic pressure and sodium were recorded at dusk (1800 h) in both species, irrespective of differences in the size of fish and feeding regime used. Maximum and minimum triiodothyronine values were found during the scotophase in bass and during the photophase in bream. Maximum thyroxine levels occurred at 1400 h (bass) and 1800 h (bream) and minimum during the scotophase, in both species. The light/dark alternation seems to be an important synchronizer of the observed diel changes. Results are discussed in relation to the timing of feeding and the general activity of the fish.  相似文献

Diel oxygen consumption patterns were determined in this study for California halibut (Paralichthys californicus) 3.2, 4.4, 6.2, 7.5, 9.2, 11.8, 12.8 and 14.2 g and between 110.5, 113.8, 115.7, 117.9, 120.1, 126.5, 132.4, 140.6, and 165.6 g held under farm-like conditions. The concept farm-like refers to a fish rearing condition as close as possible to a farming operation in terms of density, loading, and daily management. Open respirometries were performed in culture raceways during 24 h cycles while fish were growing from 3.2 g up to 165.6 g to determine hourly oxygen consumption rates by mass balance calculations. Fish were offered feed continuously during 12 h (within the 16 h light phase) resulting in maximum daily oxygen consumption rates that were between 1.2 and 1.5 times the mean daily values. A typical diel oxygen consumption pattern of the smaller group of fish tested (range between 3.2 and 14.2 g) had a peak during the feeding period, and relatively low and falling oxygen consumption after feeding was stopped. Oxygen consumption of the larger group of fish (range between 110.5 and 165.6 g) showed a less marked diel variation and did not change significantly after feed was distributed. In conclusion, diel oxygen consumption rates for California halibut reported here are key bioengineering parameters to be used when designing and sizing a rearing facility for the intensive culture of California halibut.  相似文献

Re‐esterified vegetable oils are obtained from a chemical esterification reaction between vegetable acid oils and glycerol. Due to their properties, it is expected that they have a higher nutritive value than their corresponding acid oils and a better digestibility than their native counterparts. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of re‐esterified oils with a different monoacylglycerol (MAG) and diacylglycerol (DAG) content, produced from palm or rapeseed, on fatty acid digestibility in gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata). Triplicate groups of fish were fed nine experimental diets containing different oils during 28 days. For each source, four different types of oil were used: native, re‐esterified low or high in MAG and DAG and acid. A commercial fish oil was used for the control diet. Diets containing re‐esterified oils had better apparent digestibility coefficients (ADC) of total fatty acids than acid oil diets. Re‐esterified oils do not negatively affect apparent digestibility coefficients of fatty acids when compared to their corresponding native oils and could be incorporated as a source of energy in diets for gilthead sea bream. An improvement in digestibility compared to the native oil diet was only obtained in palm re‐esterified oil high in MAG and DAG.  相似文献

Concentration of dissolved oxygen (DO) was measured in non-fouling tanks with sea bass and in fouling tanks without fish. The rate of oxygen production and respiration of fouling organisms and the rate of oxygen consumption by sea bass were calculated from the changes of DO. It was possible to approximate diurnal changes of these rates as periodical functions of time. A mathematical model was used to study the effects of fouling, density of fish and water flow on DO during the day (0–24 h). During the sunlight the fouling increases DO in the tank, while during the night it does not affect DO significantly. Water detention time significantly affects the minimum values of DO, and relatively little the maximum ones during the day.  相似文献

A feeding trial with a duration of 12 weeks was conducted to determine the effects of various protein levels, in relation to diet digestibility and growth of the gilthead sea bream, Sparus aurata L. Four experimental fish meal/wheat meal based diets (A,B,C,D) containing 400, 450, 500 and 550 g kg?1 protein, respectively, were tested. The increase of the fishmeal content of the diet led to an increment of dry matter digestibility. Apparent digestibility coefficients of protein and lipids were always very high (being near or even over 90%). Energy digestibility coefficients increased from diet A to diet D, which corresponds to a decrease in the wheat meal content of the diet. Voluntary feed intake increased with the decrease of protein content of the diet (from diet D to diet A). In the other sense, feed/gain ratio decreased regularly as protein percentage increased (from diet A to diet D). The most favourable feed/gain ratio, 1.07, was noted for the group receiving 55% protein (diet D). Fish on the lowest protein diet (Diet A) showed the highest protein efficiency ratio (PER) and the highest percentage retention of the digestible protein intake. Other than slight positive differences between fish fed diets with 500 and 550 g kg?1 protein, no significant differences were observed for growth when dietary protein exceeded 450 g kg?1. Beyond this level, no significant difference in final average individual weight was observed. Although it is generally considered that the dietary protein requirement for gilthead sea bream is 400 g kg?1, our experiment demonstrates that to obtain high growth rates (>2.3% per day), a minimum of 450 g kg?1 protein in the diet is necessary. However, the most favourable values for growth rates and feed/gain ratio are obtained with 550 g kg?1 protein in diet, considering that no significant differences were observed for PER among diets B, C and D.  相似文献

The effect of fish meal (FM) substitution with fermented soybean meal (FSBM) in the diets of the carnivorous marine fish, black sea bream, Acanthopagrus schlegelii, was investigated. An 8‐wk feeding trial was conducted with black sea bream (11.82 ± 0.32 g; mean initial weight) in indoor flow‐through fiberglass tanks (25 fish per tank). Six isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were formulated, in which FM was replaced by FSBM at 0% (control diet), 10% (FSBM10), 20% (FSBM20), 30% (FSBM30), 40% (FSBM40), or 50% (FSBM50), respectively. Each diet was fed to triplicate groups of fish twice daily to apparent satiation. The results showed that there was no difference in survival of black sea bream during the feeding trial. Fish fed the FSBM10 or FSBM20 diet showed comparable growth performance compared with fish fed the control diet (P > 0.05), whereas more than 30% replacement of FM adversely affected weight gain and specific growth rate (P < 0.05). Feed intake was significantly lower for fish fed the FSBM50 diet compared with fish fed the control diet. Feed conversion ratio (FCR) tended to increase with increasing dietary FSBM with the poorest FCR observed for fish fed the FSBM50 diet. Protein efficiency ratio and protein productive values showed similar patterns. Apparent digestibility of nutrients significantly decreased with increasing dietary FSBM level. With the exception of protein content, no significant differences in whole body and dorsal muscle composition were observed in fish fed the various diets. Fish fed the FSBM50 diet had significantly lower intraperitoneal ratio than fish fed the control or FSBM10 diet. Hepatosomatic index and condition factor were unaffected by dietary treatments. This study showed that up to 20% of dietary FM protein could be replaced by FSBM protein in the diets of juvenile black sea bream.  相似文献

Dietary mannanoligosaccharide (MOS) from commercial product, Bio‐Mos supplementation, has been examined for its effects on weight gain and feed conversion of domestic mammals and birds, but very few studies have evaluated the responses of aquacultural species to MOS. A feeding and digestibility trial was performed to asses the potential beneficial effect of two levels of Bio‐Mos on growth, feed utilization, survival rate and nutrients’ digestion of gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) with an initial average weight of 170 g. Bio‐Mos was added at 2 or 4 g kg?1 to a fish meal–based control diet, and each diet was fed to triplicate groups of 1‐year‐old gilthead sea bream. After 12 weeks, there were no differences in survival rate among fish fed experimental diets (P > 0.05). It was observed that a significant improvability existed for both growth and feed utilization in fish fed diets supplemented with Bio‐Mos (P < 0.05). Body proximate composition remained unaffected by Bio‐Mos supplementation in fish fed experimental diets (P > 0.05). Apparent digestibility values for protein, carbohydrate and energy were appreciably affected by the inclusion of two different levels of Bio‐Mos, only lipid digestibility was the exception. In conclusion, the results of this trial indicate that 2 g kg?1 dietary supplementation with BIO‐MOS seem to be most positive for gilthead sea bream production.  相似文献

2008年4~8月,采用Winkler法研究了70日龄(平均全长37.68mm,平均体重1.07g)和105日龄(平均全长65.71mm,平均体重5.58g)的条石鲷在不同温度(15、20和25℃)、不同盐度(20、25和30)下的耗氧率、窒息点及耗氧率昼夜变化。结果表明,105日龄组的相对耗氧率明显低于70日龄组,但个体耗氧量明显高于70日龄组;耗氧率随幼鱼体重的增加而相对减少。盐度一定时,温度升高,相对耗氧率和个体耗氧量都随之增大。盐度对70日龄幼鱼组的耗氧率影响显著(P〈0.05),对105日龄幼鱼组影响不显著(P〉0.05)。盐度25左右、温度20~25℃时是条石鲷苗种培育和生长的最适盐度和最适温度。条石鲷在温度15~25℃、盐度20~30下的窒息点为1.6021~2.9538mgO2/L,窒息点随着个体的增大而降低;温度、盐度对条石鲷窒息点的影响均不显著(P〉0.05)。条石鲷耗氧率的昼夜变化明显,白天的耗氧率平均为0.9459mgO2/g.h,夜间平均为0.2727mgO2/g.h,白天的耗氧率是夜间的3~5倍,条石鲷白天代谢旺盛并持续到夜间22∶00左右。  相似文献

Specific dynamic action (SDA), the energy costs associated with meal digestion and assimilation, is generally affected by body size and food composition. We assessed the postprandial metabolic response and calculated SDA in two size groups of the southern catfish (Silurus meridionalis), each fed one of two diets, high lipid or high carbohydrate, at a meal size of 4% the body mass. Using a continuous-flow respirometer, we determined the oxygen consumption rate at 2-h intervals until the postprandial oxygen consumption rate returned to the prefeeding level. None of the parameters (resting metabolic rate, Rpeak, factorial ratio, time-to-peak, duration, energy expended on SDA, or SDA coefficient) were significantly affected by diet nor was there an interaction between diet and body mass. Rpeak and energy expended on SDA for the whole fish body were significantly higher in the larger fish than the smaller one in both dietary treatments, whereas no significant effect of body size was found in mass specific values. Factorial ratio (range 3.41 to 3.60), peak time (range 9.6 to 12.7 h), SDA coefficient (range 9.36 to 10.36%), and SDA duration (range 62.0 to 71.0 h) did not significantly differ between body size groups. These results suggest that in S. meridionalis the percentage of assimilated energy allocated to SDA may be independent of the body mass.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary composition on apparent digestibility coefficients of protein, fat and carbohydrate of gilthead sea bream. In addition α‐amylase and proteolytic activities were measured in the digestive tract of fish, held at 20±1°C. Six experimental diets were formulated containing approximately 40%, 45% and 50% protein, 11% and 21% fat and a starch level which fluctuated from 14% to 36%. Fish having an average weight of 100–130 g were used, fed at 1.5% of their body weight daily, and digestibility was measured using an indirect method. Enzyme activities were measured in the digestive tract of fish, fed diets containing a combination of 40%, 50% protein with 11%, 21% fat at 0.5, 5, 10, 24 h after a single meal. Starch digestibility was reduced with its level in the diet. It also negatively affected fat digestibility as well as protein digestibility, the last only at the high fat level. Dietary fat level had a negative effect on starch and protein digestibility. Fat affected also strongly α‐amylase levels in the digestive tract, while its effect on protease activity was of smaller magnitude. These results indicate that digestive enzyme activities and nutrient digestibility values are affected by dietary composition, carbohydrates and fat indicating the strongest effect.  相似文献

Three trials, with classical experimental designs for in vivo digestibility studies, were conducted to determine the apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) of protein (ADCp), lipid (ADCl), energy (ADCe) and amino acids (AA) in selected animal by-products fed to European sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax (Trial 1), gilthead sea bream, Sparus aurata (Trial 2), and turbot, Psetta maxima (Trial 3). In each trial, five experimental diets [including a reference diet (RD)] where fish meal (FM) was used as the sole protein source were fed ad libitum to the fish for a period of 4 weeks. Test diets were based on the FM RD and obtained by replacing 30% of the RD with a category III designated European animal by-products (fit for human consumption), namely: steam hydrolysed feather meal (HFM), enzyme-treated feather meal (EFM), poultry meat meal (PMM) and spray-dried haemoglobin meal (SDHM). Faecal material was collected using the 'Guelph system', and nutrient and energy digestibility coefficients were related to the measurement of chromic oxide (Cr2O3) incorporated into the diet at a rate of 0.5%. Without any exception, FM diets yielded the best digestibility values for all macro-nutrients and by all fish. Among the test ingredients, ADCp was consistently higher for PMM and SDHM in the three species (85.5%, 91.1% in sea bass; 79.2%, 82.8% in sea bream; and 78.4%, 74.8% in turbot). Conversely, ADCp of HFM and EFM were less efficiently digested (67.2%, 68.2% in sea bass; 21.5%, 21.7% in sea bream; and 46.6%, 36.0% in turbot). However, the novel processing method applied to feather meal did not considerably influence the digestibility of most of the nutrients in this feedstuff. The current investigation yielded valuable numerical ADC for EAA considered to be of prime importance in generating balanced diet formulations.  相似文献

Rates of growth, protein synthesis and oxygen consumption were measured in herring larvae, Clupea harengus, in order to estimate the contribution that protein synthesis makes to oxygen consumption during rapid growth at 8°C. Protein synthesis rates were determined in larvae 9 to 17 d after hatching. Larvae were bathed in 3H phenylalanine for several hours and the free pool and protein-bound phenylalanine specific radioactivities were determined.Fractional rates of protein synthesis increased 5 to 11 fold with feeding after a period of fasting. Efficiencies of retention of synthesized protein were approximately 50% during rapid growth. Rapid growth in herring larvae thus appears to be characterized by moderate levels of protein turnover similar to those obtained for larger fish. Increases in growth rate occurred without changes in RNA concentration, i.e., the larvae increased the efficiency of RNA rapidly. Oxygen consumption rates were not correlated with growth rates. Protein synthesis was estimated to account for 79% of the oxygen consumption, and energy costs of protein synthesis were high, i.e., about 98 mmole O2 g–1 protein synthesized.  相似文献

Meal duration and feed ingestion rate were measured in sea cage-reared Atlantic salmon Salmo salar, rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss, yellowtail Seriola quinqueradiata and red sea bream Pagrus major fed dry extruded feed in discrete meals. At the population level, satiation times in yellowtail, salmon and trout were typically about 15–25 min, but time to satiation was longer (60–90 min) in red sea bream. In all species, feed ingestion rate declined progressively during the course of the meal as the fish became satiated. Initial feed ingestion rates in salmon were ≈ 0.3–0.5 kg feed tonne fish–1 min–1 and in trout 0.5–0.9 kg feed tonne fish–1 min–1, although the capacity to deliver feed may have restricted ingestion. Water temperature had little effect on ingestion rates, possibly because the number of meals per day (1–3) was varied with water temperature, and this may have standardized hunger level at the start of meals. Yellowtail ingested feed at ≈ 3.5 kg feed tonne fish–1 min–1 at water temperatures of 18 °C and 28 °C, whereas red sea bream ingested feed at initial rates of 0.6 and 1.4 kg feed tonne fish–1 min–1at 26.5 °C and 18 °C respectively. The findings are discussed in relation to feeding strategies to minimize interfish competition for feed and to improve the ability of fish farmers to detect the point at which fish are satiated.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of dietary taurine and cystine on growth and body composition of juvenile red sea bream Pagrus major. In Experiment I, a casein-based semi-purified diet included a small amount of fish meal were supplemented with taurine at the levels of 0 (control) and 1.0%. The experimental diets in Experiment II were without fishmeal and supplemented with taurine at 0 (control), 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0% or cystine at 1.0 and 2.0%. These diets were fed three times a day for 6 weeks to fish (average body weight: 2.3 g in Experiment I and 2.5 g in Experiment II). In Experiment I, fish fed the taurine-supplemented diet showed significantly (P < 0.05) improved growth, feed efficiency and feed consumption relative to fish fed the unsupplemental diet. The whole body taurine content increased, whereas the non-essential amino acid contents decreased, in fish fed the taurine-supplemental diet compared to fish fed the unsupplemented diet. In Experiment II, the growth, feed efficiency and feed consumption of fish fed the taurine-supplemented diets, irrespective of the dietary taurine levels, were significantly higher than those of fish fed the control diet and the cystine-supplemented diets. Taurine content in the whole body increased with the dietary taurine level, while the taurine contents did not increase by the supplemental cystine. Other free amino acid contents in the taurine-supplemented diet groups followed similar trends to those in Experiment I. These results indicate that supplemental taurine to a casein-based semi-purified diet at more than 0.5% improved the growth and feed performance of juvenile red sea bream. It is also suggested that juvenile red sea bream cannot metabolize cystine into taurine.  相似文献

Feeding motivation is one major indicator of fish welfare and an investigation on the link between feed demand, growth and physiological variables in sea bass juveniles was developed. A computerized on-demand feeding system coupled with a PIT tag monitoring device was used to continuously record for 219 days the triggering activity of 150 individuals (initial average body weight 131.6 ± 1.80 g and coefficient of variation 16.8%). Each group was held in 400 l tanks at 22.2 ± 1.5 °C and light regime was 16:8 LD. In all the tanks, 89% of the fish actuated the trigger, but only two or three fish accounted for 45% of the total triggering activity. These few high-triggering individuals had a transient higher growth i.e. at the time an individual was the high-triggering fish in the tank, its Specific Growth Rate (SGR) increased and was higher than that of the other fish. However, high-triggering fish did not exhibit a higher initial and final body weight nor a higher average SGR than low- and zero-triggering fish. Fish of different triggering categories did not show differences in physiological variables (muscle composition, blood and tissues biochemistry). This study also revealed that when an imbalance between apparent daily feed tank consumption and feed demand was observed (i.e. wastage), it was mostly due to an increasing demand rather than a decreasing consumption; such wastage could often be linked to particular stressors (measuring day, population sampling or social interactions) and therefore, feeding motivation disturbances could be a relevant operational fish welfare indicator.  相似文献

In finfish aquaculture, fish meal is heated during the manufacturing process, which affects the digestibility and protein absorption by fish. However, manufactured fishmeal that is not heated does not undergo thermal denaturation. Few studies have investigated the effects of non-heated animal protein sources on the growth performance of fish. We investigated the effects of heated and non-heated squid and krill meal as diets for red sea bream. Five test diets were formulated to contain heated squid meal, non-heated squid meal, heated krill meal, non-heated krill meal, and fish meal as a control. Fifty fish (initial mean weight?=?3.5 g) were distributed in ten 100-l experimental tanks. Fish were fed one of the five diets 3 times daily until satiation for 5 weeks. Regarding growth performance, fish fed the krill meal diet exhibited better growth than those fed squid meal during the first week of the rearing period. However, the squid meal diet group showed better performance than the krill meal diet group during the third week. Moreover, differences in body weight among treatments were greater during the fifth week. Better weight gain and thermal growth coefficient were recorded in the non-heated diet groups than in the heated diet groups. Higher feed intake was observed in the non-heated diet groups than in the heated diet groups. These results suggest higher performance of non-heated squid and krill meal as the protein source of the red sea bream diet. Further, the suitability of the diet type (e.g., squid and krill) might depend on the feeding period and/or developmental stage of fish.  相似文献

The uptake and elimination profile of oxytetracycline (OTC) following a prolong bath treatment in gilthhead sea bream (Sparus aurata) were investigated in this study. The bath experiment was carried out using a OTC concentration of 50 μg/ml for 24 h at 17-18 °C water temperature. Plasma and muscle fish samples were analysed at 1, 3, 6 and 24 h during and at 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 d following the bath. Detectable OTC levels were revealed only at the end of bath treatment (24 h) in examined tissues of gilthead sea bream, where drug concentration was measured to be as low as 0.096 and 0.047 μg/g or ml in muscle plus skin and plasma, respectively. The findings of the present study indicate that OTC bath treatment under this dosage schedule is unlikely to confront systemic bacterial infections.  相似文献
