A survey of the prevalence of Salmonella species infection was conducted on 59 Irish farrow-to-finish pig herds. Faecal samples were collected from the pens of first-stage weaners (growing pigs approximately three to 10 weeks of age), second-stage weaners (approximately 10 to 17 weeks of age) and fatteners, and from the dry sow and farrowing sow houses. The prevalence of infection was estimated to within 5 per cent with a 95 per cent confidence interval. Thirty of the 59 herds were infected, 12 with Salmonella Typhimurium only, eight with Salmonella Derby only and seven with both S Typhimurium and S Derby; serotypes London, Livingstone and Infantis were each isolated from a single herd. Farms in Ireland are assigned to one of three infection categories on the basis of the antibody levels in samples of meat juice taken at slaughter. When a herd was classified as either positive or negative on the basis of the isolation of Salmonella from at least one faecal sample there was no association between the herd's category as determined by meat juice serology and the probability of the isolation of Salmonella from the faecal samples. However, there were differences in prevalence between pigs at different stages of production in herds of different categories. Farrowing sow houses in moderately infected (category 2) herds had significantly lower infection rates (P < or = 0.05) than other herd categories and other stages of production. Pigs from first-stage weaner pens in slightly infected (category 1) herds were more likely to be infected with Salmonella than pigs at any other stage of production or category of herd.  相似文献

A longitudinal study of Salmonella enterica infection was carried out in five Italian farrow-to-finish swine herds previously known to be infected by Salmonella. Five litters were randomly selected from each herd and in each litter six piglets were randomly selected and individually identified. Thus, the study included 30 pigs from each farm. At weaning, individual blood samples were collected for serological examination from all selected piglets and on the same day from all sows in the farrowing unit. Piglets were bled again at approximately 60, 90, 150, 210 and 270 days of life whereas the last blood sample was collected at slaughtering. In one of the herds, in which the duration of productive cycle was about 12 months, the last blood samples were collected at 350 days of life. With the same time scheduling, five pen pooled faecal samples were collected from each herd for bacteriological examination. At slaughtering, mesenteric lymph nodes were collected from each ear-tagged pig. Sero-prevalence (cut off S/P ratio 0.25) in sows varied from 93.8% to 100%. In four herds, sero-prevalence in piglets showed a similar profile with complete decline of maternal antibodies at day 60 and clear sero-conversion between day 90 and day 150. In one herd, sero-conversion was observed earlier and 56% of piglets were positive at day 90. The peak of sero-prevalence was observed between day 210 and day 270. Sero-prevalence at slaughtering varied from 66% to 100%. Salmonella was isolated from faecal samples in four of five herds. No Salmonella was isolated from mesenteric lymph nodes at slaughter in two of the herds. Culture prevalence from mesenteric lymph nodes in the other three herds ranged from 3.3% to 30%. This longitudinal study provides original information about epidemiological dynamics of Salmonella enterica infection in Italian swine herds in consideration of the unique extended fattening period typical of the Italian production.  相似文献

Herd-level risk factors for salmonellosis in pigs were investigated in a cross-sectional study on 62 Belgian farrow-to-finish pig herds belonging to one slaughterhouse cooperative. Data concerning housing and ventilation, management, hygiene, biosecurity, production parameters, feeding, disease control and transport to the slaughterhouse were collected during a herd visit by means of a questionnaire. The percentage of positive animals in a slaughterhouse delivery, as determined by qualitative Salmonella isolation in the mesenteric lymph nodes taken from 30 slaughter pigs, was the outcome variable. All samples were taken in 4 different slaughterhouses. Variables first were submitted to a univariable analysis using a logistic mixed regression model, with herd as random effect. Variables which were related to the Salmonella prevalence (P < 0.05) were analysed further in a multivariable model. The clustering of Salmonella infection within a pen also was studied in a generalised mixed model with pen as random effect. Salmonella isolates were identified by serotype. In 57 (92%) of the herds, at least one sample was found positive for Salmonella. The median percentage of positive Salmonella samples per delivery was 64% (range: 0-100%). In the multivariable model, only type of floor was related significantly to the prevalence: 100% (95% CI 88-100) for herds with <50% slatted floors to 54% (36-70) for herds with fully slatted floors. The results from the analysis should be interpreted with care because only 62 herds were included in the study. Clustering between pigs from the same pen could not be demonstrated (variance +/- S.D.: 0.11 +/- 0.16). S. typhimurium (30%) and S. derby (20%) were most common among the 23 different serotypes that were found.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to compare the prevalence of Salmonella serotypes at two different sites on pig carcasses from herds classified as high-risk or low-risk and to elucidate the relationship between carcass contamination levels and serological status. Caecal samples and carcass surface swabs were cultured for Salmonella from a total of 210 pigs from low risk herds (< 19% of pigs in herd Salmonella seropositive) and 209 pigs from high risk herds (> 32% of pigs in herd Salmonella seropositive) in three abattoirs. Meat juice samples were collected for analysis by ELISA. The prevalence of Salmonella in the caecal contents of "low-risk" pigs was 10%, which was significantly lower than the 19% prevalence in "high-risk" pigs (p < 0.01). The corresponding figures for skin samples collected immediately post-evisceration were 2% and 12%. The predominant Salmonella serotype in the caecal contents of both the low-risk and high-risk pigs was Salmonella Typhimurium. Salmonella Kentucky and Salmonella Derby were the most frequent isolates from the carcass surface swabs of low- and high-risk pigs respectively. There was a positive association between seropositivity of pigs from high-risk herds and caecal carriage (p < 0.05). Results showed that herd categorisation based on serological results was useful in predicting Salmonella isolation rates from caecal samples and surface swabs of slaughtered pigs.  相似文献

This research included 2 prevalence studies and a risk-factor investigation conducted in 2001 at 93 sites with sows only, finishers only, or both. In 2001, 1300 serum samples from sows in 65 herds and 720 serum samples from finisher pigs in 72 herds were tested for antibodies to swine influenzavirus (SIV) of H1N1 subtype with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). In 2003, 1140 serum samples from sows in 76 herds were tested for antibodies to SIV of H3N2 subtype with a hemagglutination-inhibition assay based on A/Swine/Colorado/1/77 and A/Swine/Texas/4199-2/98 isolates. The apparent pig-level H1N1 seroprevalence in 2001 was 61.1% and 24.3% in sows and finishers, respectively. The apparent pig-level seroprevalence in 2003 for H3N2 A/Sw/CO/1/77 and A/Sw/TX/4199-2/98 in sows was 0.6% and 0.7%, respectively. The factors associated with sow-herd H1N1 positivity included pig or farm density at different geographic levels, an external source of breeding pigs, number of animals on site, and decreasing proximity to other barns. Higher-parity sows had higher odds of seropositivity, but there was significant random variability in this association among herds. The odds of finisher-herd SIV positivity were higher with large herd size, high pig farm density, and farrow-to-finish type of farm. Finisher herds were SIV-positive only if source sow herds were positive. Simultaneously, 45% of finisher herds were SIV-negative although sow source herds were positive.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to provide baseline data on the population and herd Salmonella seroprevalence in sows and finishers. For the population estimates in 1996 and 1999 and the herd prevalences for sows and gilts, blood samples from swine vesicular disease (SVD) and pseudorabies monitoring programmes were used and tested in an indirect Salmonella enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The herd prevalence for finishers was determined using blood samples collected at two slaughterhouses.The population prevalence for finishers in 1996 and 1999 was 23.7 and 24.5%, respectively, and for sows 40.5 and 60.4%, respectively. The prevalence in free range (FR) finishers was significantly higher (44.6%) than in intensively housed finishers in 1999, identifying a hazard group for possible extra pork and pork product contamination. Of 406 finishing herds, 9% were completely seronegative for Salmonella (cut-off OD%>10). Of these 406 finishing herds, 69.7% had Salmonella-status I (low prevalence), 21.7% status II (moderate prevalence) and 8.6% status III (high prevalence) (cut-off OD%>40). In 46 multiplying sow herds, 20 breeding sow herds and 20 matching replacement gilt herds, the average herd prevalences were 54, 44.4 and 19.3%, respectively. Two gilt herds were completely seronegative. The prevalence in the gilt herds was never higher than in the matching breeding sow herds. Agreement on methodology and calibration of ELISA tests would make these results comparable between countries and is a prerequisite for a co-ordinated and integrated program to reduce Salmonella in pork in the European Union.  相似文献

Many farrow-to-finish herds are endemically infected with Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae. In order to control the disease efficiently, a better knowledge of the ages at which pigs become infected is necessary. Furthermore, no information is available concerning the influence of maternally derived antibodies on the colonization of the upper respiratory tract. Therefore, A. pleuropneumoniae infection patterns were studied in five farrow-to-finish pig herds (A-E) with a history of pleuropneumonia. A longitudinal study was carried out in herds A and B. In these herds, piglets from sows carrying A. pleuropneumoniae in their noses or tonsils were sampled. Nasal and tonsillar swabs as well as sera, were collected from these animals at the age of 4, 8, 12, 16 (herds A and B) and 23 weeks (herd B). At these ages other pigs from the same sows were euthanized. The lungs were macroscopically examined and samples from nose, tonsils and lungs were collected at necropsy. A cross-sectional study was performed in herds C-E. In these herds nasal and tonsillar swabs, as well as sera, were taken from 10 animals of 4, 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age. Lung, nasal and tonsillar samples were tested for the presence of A. pleuropneumoniae by routine bacteriology and PCR with mixed bacterial cultures. The sera were examined for the presence of Apx toxin neutralizing antibodies. In herd A, A. pleuropneumoniae serotype 2 and 10 strains were isolated, whereas serotype 2, 3, 5b and 8 strains were demonstrated in herd B. In most herds, A. pleuropneumoniae was detected in mixed bacterial cultures of tonsillar and/or nasal samples by PCR from the age of 4 weeks onwards. Colonization of the lungs and development of lung lesions was observed in 12- and 16-week-old animals of herd A and 23-week-old animals of herd B. In most herds, high antibody titres were detected in 4-week-old piglets. These titres decreased during the first 12 weeks of age, but thereafter, increased. It was concluded that PCR with mixed bacterial cultures from tonsillar swabs is a valuable tool for the detection of infected animals. It was also concluded that colonization of tonsils and nasal mucosae can occur in the presence of maternally derived antibodies. Infection of the upper respiratory tract without lung involvement did not result in development of Apx toxin neutralizing antibodies. Therefore, such serological assays cannot be used for the detection of subclinically infected animals.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to compare, by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD), the diversity of Streptococcus suis serotypes 1/2 and 2 isolates recovered at slaughter houses from the tonsils of clinically healthy pigs. The pigs belonged to herds with or without clinical signs of S. suis disease.

Overall, a low diversity was observed among isolates of serotype 1/2. A representative isolate recovered from a diseased animal presented a relatively high similarity (85%), with most isolates recovered from carrier pigs, from herds either with or without clinical signs of S. suis disease. For serotype 2 isolates, a relatively high degree of heterogeneity was observed in the whole population. Two subpopulations were observed for serotype 2 isolates, which arose from herds with clinical signs. Interestingly, the representative isolate coming from the diseased pig was included in a small closed cluster, with 2 isolates recovered from carrier pigs belonging to the same herd. On the other hand, most of the S. suis serotype 2 isolates originating from herds with no history of S. suis disease, were closely related (90% similarity). Furthermore, they presented different RAPD patterns from those originating from animals from the herd presenting S. suis clinical signs due to this serotype. Results suggest that, in the herds studied, clinical manifestations due to serotype 2 are probably related to the virulence of a specific isolate. Conversely, for the herd affected with serotype 1/2, clinical manifestations of the disease were more likely to be the result of inherent herd factors than the virulence of the specific isolate.

Blood samples were taken from 50 pigs in each of 59 farrow-to-finish production herds and from 40 pigs in each of four of five registered multiplying herds. Samples of feed and faeces were also collected from 17 of the production herds and from the four multiplying herds. The sera were tested for antibodies to Salmonella enterica by the Danish mix-ELISA, and the organisms were isolated, serotyped and sensitivity tested by standard techniques. The average within-herd seroprevalence was 3.4 per cent and at least one pig tested seropositive in 21 of the 59 herds. In the multiplying herds, only a single seroreactor was detected. Salmonellae were isolated from only five of 95 feed samples, from two of the 17 herds sampled, Salmonella tennessee in four of five samples from one herd and an untypable strain in one of five samples from another. Four infected faecal samples were detected in four herds; they harboured Salmonella typhimurium, Salmonella bredeney or Salmonella london. No salmonellae were isolated from the samples of feed and faeces taken from the multiplying herds. The S london and S typhimurium had a low sensitivity to streptomycin, kanamycin and neomycin, and the S typhimurium also had low sensitivity to amoxycillin, ticarcillin, piperacillin, amoxycillin + clavulanic acid, cefalotin and cefoperazone. The other isolates were sensitive to all the antimicrobial agents tested.  相似文献

Worldwide, the use of antimicrobials in food production has been associated with drug resistance in foodborne pathogens such as Salmonella. However, little is known about the efficaciousness of fluorequinolone treatment on Salmonella Typhimurium T104 infections in pig breeding herds. A combined eradication procedure with enrofloxacin application on sows and piglets, feeding of encapsulated organic acids to sows, disinfection with peracetic acid, separation of the growers from the sows and serological discrimination using a new whole-cell-based enzyme-linked immnosorbent assay (ELISA) was evaluated for the suitability to eradicate and to control endemic S. Typhimurium DT104 infections in a closed herd. Thirty-seven sows and their piglets were treated everyday from day 14 ante partum until the day of weaning. Eighteen sows and their piglets served as controls. From the first day of life until day 168 after birth, faecal samples (n = 1671) of all piglets were analysed for Salmonella shedding. In parallel, systemic antibody responses were monitored by whole-cell-based isotype-specific ELISA systems. From birth to weaning the prevalence in both groups was between 2% and 9%. After weaning, intermittent shedding could be observed in both groups, and salmonellae could be found in up to 7.7% of the faecal samples. As a result, a dramatic increase in Salmonella-infected growers was observed, as of day 115 after birth, 47.4% of the animals of the treated group were tested positive for S. Typhimurium. Our results indicate that despite long-term antibiosis treatment and optimized hygiene measures, shedding of S. Typhimurium by the sows and the subsequent infection of their offspring could not be effectively prevented. Although it could be not shown that elimination of S. Typhimurium DT104 infection was achieved, the disinfection procedures described and the diagnostic test used are effective instruments to decrease the Salmonella load and to identify individual infected animals. Both of these are important factors for an improved consumer protection.  相似文献

Episodes of high sow mortality rates affect profitability of swine farms. However, relevant control actions are difficult to implement. The objective of this study was to identify the risk factors for high levels of sow mortality rate (HM) in French swine herds. A case-control study was carried out in 102 swine herds located in Brittany (western France). Level of sow mortality of a herd was quantified by the annual mortality rate using sow-days as denominator. Fifty-five (53.9%) herds which experienced a sow mortality rate over 5% were classified as HM herds. Logistic regression was used to assess associations of managerial practices and disease prevalence with the odds of HM. High prevalence of urinary tract infections, metritis or lameness were significantly associated with a HM herd status (P < 0.10, OR ranging from 3.4 to 5.2). Multiplying herds were herds at higher risk for sow mortality than commercial farrow-to-finish herds. Providing three meals per day instead of two to dry sows decreased the odds of HM. Feeding plans where the maximum daily amount of feed provided to lactating sows was lower than 8 kg and was reached before 15 d in lactation were related to lower odds of HM (P < 0.10). Average age at weaning of 28 d or more and/or small average litter size at birth (12 piglets or less) were associated with higher odds of experiencing HM.  相似文献

Delivery of infected pigs to the slaughterhouse is a major source of pork meat contamination by bacterial hazards to humans. We propose a model of Salmonella spread within a farrow-to-finish pig herd, assuming the prevalence in infected delivered pigs depends on the whole pig life-time and growing process. This stochastic discrete-time model represents both the population dynamics in a farrow-to-finish pig herd using batch management, and Salmonella spread. Four mutually exclusive individual health states were considered: Salmonella-free, seronegative shedder, seropositive shedder and seropositive not shedding carrier, making the distinction between seropositive animals and shedders. Since indirect transmission is the main route of transmission, the probability of infection depends on the quantity of Salmonella in the pigs' environment (Q). A dose effect function is used with two thresholds, assuming saturation in exposure for high Q vs. a minimum exposure for low Q. Salmonella is introduced in an initially Salmonella-free 150-sow herd. Prevalence of shedders and seroprevalence are calculated over time in batches of sows and pigs, and in groups of delivered pigs, composed of pigs from different batches. The model shows very variable seroprevalence over time within a herd among delivered groups, as well as among replications. The mean seroprevalence and the mean shedding prevalence are 19.3% and 13.8% respectively. A sensitivity analysis shows that the Salmonella quantity shed and the maternal protective factor are the most influential parameters on Salmonella prevalence in delivered pigs.  相似文献

Thirty-eight clinical isolates of Pasteurella multocida, recovered from a continuous flow, farrow-to-finish swine herd, were characterized by capsular serotyping and restriction endonuclease analysis (REA) in order to study the epidemiology of P. multocida pneumonia. Twenty-three of the 38 isolates obtained in the study belonged to serotype A. They displayed three REA patterns after digestion with HpaII, of which one designated A-3 represented 70% of the samples. The remaining 15 isolates were serotype D. Four different REA patterns were observed in the type D isolates. The REA type D-1 was most prevalent and accounted for 47% of the serotype D isolates. All serotype A isolates were nontoxigenic, whereas five (33%) of the serotype D isolates were toxigenic. Vertical transmission of P. multocida could not be demonstrated, and was probably not a major route of infection. The results of this study suggest that strains of P. multocida virulent for pigs exist and cause swine pneumonic pasteurellosis in continuous flow herds by horizontal transmission.  相似文献

A cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the prevalence of Salmonella and to associate management factors in fattening pigs in a production compartment of northern Thailand. A total of 194 fecal samples and 166 environmental samples were collected from 22 fattening pig herds for isolation and identification of Salmonella. An additional 427 serum samples were collected from the same herds to determine Salmonella antibodies using ELISA. A questionnaire was used to collect management factors likely to be associated with Salmonella identification. Prevalence of Salmonella in each sample and its confidence interval was adjusted for clustering by herds using linearization technique. A generalized estimating equation was used to determine the odds ratio and significance level for each management factor in a logistic regression model. Salmonella was found in all 22 study pig herds with a fecal sample prevalence of 63% (95%CI: 56-69%) and a serum sample prevalence of 72%. However, isolation results were not significantly different from ELISA results. The most isolated serotype was Salmonella Rissen (49%) followed by Salmonella Typhimurium (19%), Salmonella Stanley (12%) and Salmonella Weltevreden (4%) being significantly different in the different specimens collected (p=.024). The final logistic regression model with isolation results as outcome showed that medium herd size (OR=2.32, p=0.003), quality certification according to the Department of Livestock Development standard (OR=1.88, p=0.000), use of effective microorganisms (OR=1.51, p=0.022), slurry waste management (OR=2.17, p=0.000) and less number of pigs per pen (OR=1.12, p=0.000) were significantly associated with positive Salmonella isolation; with positive ELISA results, however, only the use of effective microorganisms was significantly associated (OR=2.63, p=0.011).  相似文献

To estimate herd prevalence of Salmonella spp, fecal specimens were obtained for culture from neonatal calves of 47 Ohio dairy herds. Of the 452 calves tested, 10 calves from 7 farms were culture-positive. Salmonella serotypes isolated were S dublin, S typhimurium, S enteritidis, S agona, S mbandaka, and S montevideo. Bulk tank milk filters from these dairies were also submitted for culture. Salmonella sp was isolated from 1 of the 50 filters, and 2 calves from this herd were found to be shedding Salmonella sp of the same serotype.  相似文献

The present investigation comprised six integrated herds (100-150 sows each) and one specialized fattening herd. Serologic tests by ELISA were performed on blood samples from piglets and growing pigs during various rearing phases in order to determine the presence of Actinobacillus infection and to estimate the age of the animals at onset of the disease. Using this information, herd-specific vaccination programs were designed against Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae serotype 2. The weaned piglets in the integrated herds were vaccinated twice before being moved to the fattening unit. In the specialized fattening herd, the pigs were vaccinated on arrival at the growing unit and just before transfer to the finishing unit. The frequencies of chronic pleuritis at slaughter demonstrated that a vaccination program adapted to the herd-specific problem, in combination with environmental improvements, reduces the prevalence of chronic pleuritis. On the other hand, only a moderate reduction of the prevalence of chronic pleuritis occurred as a result of vaccination if no environmental improvements were made. In two of the herds during the vaccination period, the number of feeding days and food consumption decreased, while growth per day increased. There was also an apparent correlation between higher serum titres and a decreased prevalence of pleuritis at slaughter in three of the herds.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to describe the transmission and the kinetics of the infection caused by Streptococcus suis serotype 5 in a multisite farrow-to-finish pig herd. Most sows carried S. suis serotype 5 in their vaginal tract, but not in their nasal cavities, as demonstrated by immunomagnetic separation (IMS) technique. Their offspring became infected during farrowing, confirming vertical transmission. During the first 4 weeks of life, a low number of piglets were carriers of S. suis serotype 5 in their nasal cavities. However, when clinical signs appeared, the carrier rate significantly increased, suggesting that isolation from nasal cavities is a better indication of active transmission than of a carrier state. Clinical cases were present in animals between 4 and 8 weeks of age, when maternal antibodies were at their lowest level. Up to six different genotypes of the same serotype could be identified by random amplified polymorphic DNA; however, a single clone was responsible for all clinical cases studied. This clone could only be isolated from a single sow, indicating that its prevalence in breeding animals was low. Interestingly, 1 year later, clinical disease associated with S. suis serotype 5 spontaneously disappeared. At that time, the genotype responsible for the clinical signs was not detected in the herd and the levels of antibodies in sows and maternal antibodies in piglets were not higher than those of the previous year.  相似文献

Epidemiologic investigations of Salmonella infections in dairy cattle often rely on testing fecal samples from individual animals or samples from other farm sources to determine herd infection status. The objectives of this project were to evaluate the effect of sampling frequency on Salmonella isolation and to compare Salmonella isolation and serogroup classification among sample sources on 12 US dairy farms sampled weekly for 7-8 weeks. Three herds per state were enrolled from Michigan, Minnesota, New York and Wisconsin based upon predefined herd-size criteria. Weekly samples were obtained from cattle, bulk tank milk, milk filters, water and feed sources and environmental sites. Samples were submitted to a central laboratory for isolation of Salmonella using standard laboratory procedures. The herd average number of cattle fecal samples collected ranged from 26 to 58 per week. Salmonella was isolated from 9.3% of 4049 fecal samples collected from cattle and 12.9% of 811 samples from other sources. Serogroup C1 was found in more than half of the samples and multiple serogroups were identified among isolates from the same samples and farms. The percentage of herd visits with at least one Salmonella isolate from cattle fecal samples increased with overall herd prevalence of fecal shedding. Only the three herds with an average fecal shedding prevalence of more than 15% had over 85% of weekly visits with at least one positive fecal sample. The prevalence of fecal shedding from different groups of cattle varied widely among herds showing that herds with infected cattle may be classified incorrectly if only one age group is tested. Testing environmental sample sources was more efficient for identifying infected premises than using individual cattle fecal samples.  相似文献

An integrated SPF herd with 320 sows was found infected with Salmonella Yoruba during an annual control among sows, aiming to verify freedom from Salmonella infections. It is believed that the infection was introduced to the herd by purchase of feed. The herd performed an age segregated rearing system. Sows and piglets were reared at a central farm, while growers (25-100 kg body weight) were reared at sub-estates. The growers were free from the infection, and as a consequence a specially designed eradication program was designed. Farrowing and weaning were defined as periods of risk for sows and piglets, respectively. Consequently sows were isolated and individually tested for presence of Salmonella one week before and one week after farrowing. The offspring were tested one week post weaning. To verify freedom from disease among piglets they were also tested another time before transfer to the uninfected sub-estates. Piglets with undefined status regarding Salmonella were denoted animals at risk and not transferred to the sub-estates. Instead they were transferred to a third estate, rented to house pigs at risk. The program was successful. It allowed full production during performance, and the herd was declared free from S. Yoruba seven and a half months after the initial diagnosis.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to obtain prevalence estimates about the most important enteropathogenic bacteria: Lawsonia intracellularis, Brachyspira hyodysenteriae, Brachyspira pilosicoli, Salmonella enterica and Clostridium perfringens A and C in Hungarian farrow-to-finish pig herds. A total of 31 herds were selected, from where six pooled faecal samples, each containing three individual rectal faecal samples were collected from fattening pigs of 5-6 months of age. All 186 samples were examined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the presence of the pathogens mentioned above. Lawsonia intracellularis was found in 29 herds (93.55%) and in 108 samples (58.06%); B. hyodysenteriae in 14 herds (45.16%) and in 23 samples (12.37%); B. pilosicoli in 19 herds (61.29%) and in 53 samples (28.49%); S. enterica in 17 herds (54.83%) and in 40 samples (21.50%). We detected the presence of C. perfringens A in 19 herds (61.29%) and in 46 samples (24.73%), while C. perfringens C was found in 8 herds (25.81%) and in 11 samples (5.91%). All examined herds were infected with one or more of these agents. Herds with diarrhoea in the mid- to late finishing phase had almost 10 times higher prevalence of B. hyodysenteriae than herds without such a history.  相似文献
