A particulate fraction obtained from trout testis at the time of spermiation shows saturable binding sites for125I-labeled salmon gonadotropin (125I-GtH). Non-gonadal tissues (liver, muscle and spleen) did not demonstrate specific125I-GtH binding. The tracer's specific activity was determined by the self-displacement method (18 to 30 Ci/g). Maximal specific binding ability of125I-GtH varied from 20 to 30% of the labelled ligand added, depending on the hormone preparation. Specific binding of125I-GtH to 20 mg of the testis membrane varied from 40 to 85% of the total binding depending on the method of membrane prepratation, and was competitively inhibited by concentrations of unlabelled GtH ranging from ca 1 to 1000 ng/ml of incubate. Gonadotropin of mammalian origin, ovine TSH or salmon prolactin competed only weakly, or not at all, for testicular gonadotropin binding sites (relative potencies s-GtH>>FSH=hCG>s-PRL>bTSH). Scatchard analysis of equilibrium binding studies shows that saturable gonadotropin binding was due to a class of high affinity binding sites (sites I Ka3×1010 M–1) and possibly to a second class of lower affinity binding sites (sites II Ka=5 to 14×108 M–1). The binding capacity of sites I, as measured in enriched membrane preparations, was 45±18 fmoles/g of testis during the period of spermiation. The concentration of GtH required to obtain half maximal displacement of125I-GtH in the binding studies was of the same order of magnitude as the apparent ED50 for GtH stimulation of 11-Cetotestosterone (11KT) secretion by trout testesin vitro. Mammalian LH and FSH were 100 to 1000 folds less potent than salmor GtH to increase 11 KT secretion.  相似文献

The endemic, anadromous cyprinidChalcalburnus tarichi is the only fish species known to occur in alkaline Lake Van (Eastern Anatolia, Turkey). EightC. tarichi were maintained individually in Lake Van water (17 – 19°C; pH 9.8; 153 mEq·I–1 total alkalinity; 22 total salinity) and tank water samples analyzed for 24 h in 2 to 4 h intervals. At zero time, < 1µM ammonia was present and urea was undetectable in the tank water; at 24 h, total ammonia and urea made up 114±32 and 35±25µM, respectively. Over the experimental period, ammonia-N and urea-N excretion averaged 1041±494 and 607±169moles·kg–1 fish·h–1, respectively. The extent of urea excretion was highly variable between specimens. Uric acid excretion was not detectable.Urea was present at high concentrations in all tissues and plasma (25 – 35moles·g–1·ml–1) of freshly caughtC. tarichi; total ammonia content of the tissues was by a factor of 1.9 (liver) to 3.0 (brain) lower. High arginase activity (2.4±0.2 U·min–1·g–1) was detected in the liver ofC. tarichi but ornithine carbamoylphosphate transferase, a key enzyme of the ornithine-urea-cycle, was absent. Ureagenesis is likely through degradation of arginine and/or uricolysis. High glutamine synthetase activity (11±0.6 U·min–1·g–1) and low ammonia content in brain suggest that, like other teleosts,C. tarichi has an efficient ammonia detoxification in the brain, but in no other tissue.Nitrogenous waste excretion at alkaline pH is discussed. The ability ofC. tarichi to excrete high levels of ammonia at extremely alkaline pH is unique among teleosts studied so far. The mechanism of ammonia excretion under Lake Van conditions remains to be elucidated.  相似文献

The presumptive Na+/H+ exchange sites of trout and eel erythrocytes were quantified using amiloride-displaceable 5-(N-methyl-N-[3H]isobutyl)-amiloride (3H-MIA) equilibrium binding to further evaluate the mechanisms of i) hypoxia-mediated modifications in the trout erythrocyte -adrenergic signal transduction system and ii) the marked differences in the catecholamine responsiveness of this system between the trout and eel. MIA was a more potent inhibitor of both trout apparent erythrocyte proton extrusion (IC50 = 20.1 ± 1.1 mol l–1, N = 6) activity (as evaluated by measuring plasma pH changes after addition of catecholamine in vitro) and specific 3H-MIA binding (IC50 = 257 ± 8.2 nmol l–1, N = 3) than amiloride, which possessed a proton extrusion IC50 of 26.1 ± 1.6 mol l–1 (N = 6) and a binding IC50 of 891 ± 113 nmol l–1 (N = 3). The specific Na+ channel blocker phenamil was without effect on adrenergic proton extrusion activity or specific 3H-MIA binding. Trout erythrocytes suspended in Na+-free saline and maintained under normoxic conditions possessed 37,675 ± 6,678 (N = 6) amiloride-displaceable 3H-MIA binding sites per cell (Bmax, presumptive Na+/H+ antiporters) with an apparent dissociation constant (KD) of 244 ± 29 nmol l–1 (N = 6). Acute hypoxia (PO2 = 1.2 kPa; 30 min) did not affect the KD, yet resulted in a 65% increase in the number of presumptive Na+/H+ antiporters. Normoxic eel erythrocytes, similarly suspended in Na+-free saline, possessed only 17,133 ± 3,716 presumptive Na+/H+ antiporters (N = 6), 45% of that of trout erythrocytes, with a similar KD (246 ± 41 nmol l–1, N = 6). These findings suggest that inter- and intra-specific differences in the responsiveness of the teleost erythrocyte -adrenergic signal transduction system can be explained, in part, by differences in the numbers of Na+/H+ exchange sites.  相似文献

The standard rate of oxygen consumption of ammocoetes (larvae) ofGeotria australis with a mean weight of c. 0.5 g was 9.6, 31.4 and 59.4l g–1 h–1 at 4.5, 15.5 and 25.0°C respectively, which gives an overall Q10 of 2.4. The regression coefficient for the logarithmic relationship between oxygen consumption and body weight at 15.5°C was 0.704. The ammocoetes ofG. australis have a much lower rate of oxygen consumption at 15.5 and 25.0°C than those of holarctic lampreys. This presumably reflects the lower oxygen delivery pressure to their tissues and helps account for their slow growth rate. At 15.5°C, ammocoetes ofG. australis emerged from the substrate at 21–25 mm Hg and, unlike those of the Northern HemisphereIchthyomyzon greeleyi, died at 14–17 mm Hg. Thus, despite having a thinner water/blood barrier in the gills and blood with a higher oxygen affinity and capacity than holarctic ammocoetes, the larvae ofG. australis cannot survive very low dissolved oxygen tensions. This is apparently related to an inability of larvalG. australis to meet the high oxygen requirements of the respiratory pump at these oxygen tensions. During metamorphosis, oxygen consumption at 15.5°C rose from approximately 27l g–1 h–1 at the beginning of transformation to 33.2l g–1 h–1 by Stage 3 and then rapidly to 66l g–1 h–1 at Stage 6. It remained near this level in Stage 7 and the downstream migrant.  相似文献

The capacity of cortisol, ovine growth hormone (oGH), recombinant bovine insulin-like growth factor I (rbIGF-I) and 3,3,5-triiodo-l-thyronine (T3) to increase hypoosmoregulatory capacity in the euryhaline teleost Fundulus heteroclitus was examined. Fish acclimated to brackish water (BW, 10 ppt salinity) were injected with a single dose of hormone suspended in oil and transferred to seawater (SW, 35 ppt salinity) 10 days post-injection. Fish were sampled 24 h after transfer and plasma osmolality and gill Na+, K+-ATPase activity were examined. Transfer from BW to SW induced significantly increased plasma osmolality but not gill Na+, K+-ATPase activity. Cortisol (50 g g–1 body weight) improved the ability to maintain plasma osmolality and to increase gill Na+, K+-ATPase activity. oGH (5 g g–1 body weight) also increased hypoosmoregulatory ability and gill Na+, K+-ATPase activity. A cooperation between oGH and cortisol was observed in increasing hypoosmoregulatory ability but not in increasing gill Na+, K+-ATPase activity. rbIGF-I (0.5 g g–1 body weight) alone was without effect in increasing salinity tolerance or gill Na+, K+-ATPase activity. rbIGF-I and oGH showed a positive interaction in increasing salinity tolerance, but not gill Na+, K+-ATPase activity. Treatment with T3 (5 g g–1 body weight) alone did not increase salinity tolerance or gill Na+, K+-ATPase activity, and there was no consistent significant interaction between cortisol and T3 or between GH and T3. The results confirm the classical role of cortisol as a seawater-adapting hormone and indicate an interaction between cortisol and the GH/IGF-I axis during seawater acclimation of Fundulus heteroclitus.  相似文献

Receptors for gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) were characterized using a radioligand prepared from a superactive analog of salmon GnRH (sGnRH), D-Arg6-Pro9-sGnRH-NEt (sGnRHa). Binding of125I-sGnRHa to catfish pituitary membrane fractions reached equilibrium after 2 h incubation at 4°C. Displacement experiments with several GnRH analogs as well as other peptides, demonstrated the specificity of125I-sGnRHa binding. Specific binding was enhanced in the presence of the cation chelator ethylene bis (oxyethylenenitrilo) tetra-acetic acid (EGTA), indicating an inhibitory effect of cations on GnRH-receptor binding. The binding of125I-sGnRHa to pituitary membranes was found to be saturable at radioligand concentrations of 5 nM and above. A Scatchard analysis of the saturation data suggested the presence of a single class of high-affinity binding sites (Ka=0.901±0.06×109M–1, Bmax=1678±150 fmol/mg protein). A comparative study on125I-sGnRHa binding to pituitary membrane fractions of male and female catfish, indicated that there were no differences in binding affinity and binding capacity between both sexes. The results demonstrate the presence of specific, saturable GnRH receptors in the African catfish pituitary.  相似文献

PKC activity was detected in spleen extracts from the turbot, Scophthalmus maximus, a teleost flatfish that is farmed commercially in several countries, in assays with the substrate EGF- R651–658 as phosphate acceptor. The activity was purified about 700-fold by a three-step chromatographic procedure (DEAE-cellulose, phenyl-Sepharose and threonine-Sepharose). Maximal activity was obtained in the presence of the typical PKC cofactors Ca2+ (0.1 mM) PtdS (20 g ml–1) and either DAG (2 g ml–1) or PMA (2 g ml–1). Activity was dose-dependently inhibited by H7 and by the PKC-specific inhibitors PKC19–36 and N-myristoylated PKC19–31. The rate of phosphorylation was highest with the PKC-specific substrate MARCKS161–175. In immunoblotting, MC5 (a mouse monoclonal antibody raised against bovine PKC) recognized bands of 80 and 100 kDa. Immunoblotting with antibodies raised against mouse PKC isozymes (, , , , , , and ) indicated the presence of all these isozymes in turbot spleen.  相似文献

Five experimental diets containing increasing proportions of cottonseedmeal (CSM) protein (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%; diets 1 to 5, respectively) toreplace fish meal (FM) protein were formulated for intensive culture of tilapiaOreochromis sp. Each diet was fed to three replicategroupsof fish (mean weight ± SE = 11.3 ± 3.9 g) in30L aquaria connected as a closed recirculating-water system andmaintained at 27 ± 1 °C. Fish were fed three times adayby hand at a rate of 3% of body weight during four weeks, after which thefeeding rate was gradually decreased to reach 1.5% at 16 weeks. Thesubstitutionof 75 and 100% of FM proteins by CSM proteins resulted in significantly lowerbody weights in both sexes. In both sexes, gonadosomatic indexes and plasmaconcentrations of sex steroids (testosterone, 11-ketotestoterone,estradiol-17 and 17,20-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one) were notsignificantly different among dietary treatments. The concentration ofgossypol,an antifertility agent contained in CSM, was measured in reproductive tissues. The total gossypol concentration in the testis was consistently lower than thatmeasured in the ovaries of the same group. Moreover, in both sexes, theconcentration of the (+)isomer of gossypol was always higher than that of(–)isomer. The total gossypol concentrations in testes increasedsignificantly with the increase of CSM in the diet. The highest levels of the(+)isomer (7.64 ± 0.62 g g–1)were found in the testes of fish fed diet 4, whereas the (–)isomerreached its highest values in the testes of fish fed diet 5. The highest levelsof both enantiomers of gossypol were found in the ovaries of fish fed diet 4(14.2 ± 2.7 and 5.6 ± 1.5 g g–1for (+) and (–)isomers, respectively). In both sexes, thehistological analysis of the gonads did not reveal differences among the fishfed different levels of CSM. Although CSM at any levels did not affect thereproductive parameters examined in this study, it cannot be used to substitutemore than 50% of FM since at higher levels growth of tilapia was compromised.  相似文献

In this investigation, the efficacy of a single intraperitonealinjection of either flumequine or oxytetracycline hydrochloride to preventoutbreak of atypical Aeromonas salmonicida infection ingoldsinny wrasse, Ctenolabrus rupestris, following stresswas studied. Six groups of goldsinny wrasse, each of 50 individuals, weretreated with an intraperitoneal injection of either propylene glycol : saline(50 : 50), 200 mg kg–1 of oxytetracycline or 50mg kg–1 of flumequine dissolved in propyleneglycol : saline (50 : 50). Three days following medication the fish in allgroups were stressed by an intraperitoneal injection of prednisolone acetate(0.05 ml) and a rise in seawater temperature from 9 to 11°C. Mortality was observed daily for 21 days. Flumequine wasthe more effective with a mean cumulative mortality of 5% compared tooxytetracycline with 54%. The mean cumulative mortality in the unmedicatedcontrol groups was 84%. Bacterial examination of kidneys from dead fishconfirmed the presence of atypical A. salmonicida as theprobable cause of death. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values forflumequine and oxytetracycline against the isolated A.salmonicida were determined to 0.13 gml–1, and 2.0 g ml–1,respectively.  相似文献

The effect of high levels of ascorbic acid (AA) delivered through enriched live food has been verified through the successful culture of larval giant freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii. Two successive feeding trials were set up using a control (550 g AA g–1 DW) and two different AA-enrichment levels in Artemia (1300 and 2750 g AA g–1 DW). Under standard culture conditions, no differences in growth nor survival could be observed demonstrating that the nutritional requirements are below 550 g AA g–1 DW, which is the normal level occurring in freshly-hatched Artemia. However, a significantly positive effect could be demonstrated on the physiological condition of the postlarvae, measured by means of a salinity stress test, when vitamin C-boosted live food was administered. Since the AA levels in the predator larvae are linked with the enrichment levels in the live prey, it may be assumed that a positive influence on stress resistance was caused by feeding vitamin C-enriched Artemia. It is expected that under suboptimal conditions, supplementation of high vitamin C levels might also enhance production characteristics.  相似文献

The pattern of changes of activity of the urea cycle enzymes and the rate of urea-N excretion were studied in the perfused liver of an Indian air-breathing ureogenic walking catfish, Clarias batrachus. The liver was perfused with different concentrations of NH4Cl for a period of 60 min to determine the role of ammonia for stimulation of hepatic ureogenesis and the threshold level of ammonia loading needed to cause such stimulation. Both the urea-N excretion and the ammonia uptake by the perfused liver were found to be a saturable process. Ammonia accumulated significantly in the liver infused with 1.25 moles g liver –1 min–1 of NH4Cl, followed by a maximum accumulation of about 28.5 moles g wet wt–1 with the infusion of 5.08 moles g liver–1 min–1. The Vmax of the urea-N excretion (0.47 mol g liver–1 min–1) was obtained with the addition of 5.08 moles g liver–1 min–1 of NH4Cl. Both the tissue and the specific activity of the urea cycle enzymes, except ornithine transcarbamylase and arginase, were stimulated significantly with the infusion of either 1.25 or 5.08 moles g liver–1 min–1 of NH4Cl. Maximum stimulation of tissue activity of carbamoyl phosphate synthetase (about 120%) was seen with the infusion of 5.08 mol g liver–1 min–1, and for argininosuccinate synthetase (about 135%), and argininosuccinate lyase (about 50%) with the infusion of 10.81 mol g liver–1 min–1 of NH4Cl. Higher accumulation of ammonia of about 10–15 mol g wet wt–1 from the physiological level in the perfused liver while infusing with NH4Cl was suggested to be one of the major causes of stimulation of ureogenesis. The presence of such physiological adaptive strategy is probably necessary in this unique group of air-breathing walking catfish to survive under hyper-ammonia stress in their normal habitat or while living outside water or while burrowing inside mud.  相似文献

Similar to gas secretion into the swimbladder, some teleosts also exhibit ocular gas secretion to supply their thick and avascular retina with oxygen. The process in the eye, however, is complicated by the fact that the retina is supplied with arterial blood only indirectly through the pseudobranch, a reduced gill arch of still unknown function. Approaches for closer analysis of the physiological implications of this serial blood supply arrangement and the associated process of O2 release include complete unilateral vascular isolation of eye and/or pseudobranch while maintaining normal blood flow characteristics for undisturbed operation of the counter-current rete mirabile.Blood flow velocity in the afferent pseudobranchial artery (aPA; essentially equal to ophthalmic artery flow) of rainbow trout was measured by application of ultrasonic Doppler techniques. Accurate determination of flow rate in the untouched vessel was facilitated by mounting the Doppler crystal with a custom-made holder on the bone of the jaw and raw signal analysis by Fast Fourier Transformation for improved signal/noise ratio. Normal unilateral aPA blood flow was 746 l min–1 kg–1 body weight, (1.6% of cardiac output), the tissue-weight-specific blood flow was 3.6 ml min–1 g–1 for pseudobranch and 2.3 ml min–1 g–1 for the retina. Only about 28% of the oxygen potentially available with maximal activation of the Root effect is actually consumed in pseudobranch and retina. This generous supply of blood and the implicit safety margin may serve minimization of pH disturbances of retinal tissues, but may also come suitable during unilateral occlusion of supplying arteries for continued oxygen supply to the retinae. During contralateral occlusion, flow through the ipsilateral aPA increased to 136%. According to the normally low O2 extraction, a minimal flow of 36% through bilateral anastomosis and contralateral ophthalmic artery may maintain complete contralateral oxygen supply.  相似文献

In two separate experiments, haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus) larvae were raised under different photoperiods (24L : 0D or 15L : 9D), or different combinations of tank colour (black or white) and light intensity (1.1 mol s–1 m–2 or 18 mol s–1 m–2). Growth (0.8% day–1 in standard length; 2.9% day–1 in body area) and survival (2%) were not significantly different between photoperiod treatments after 35 days. Larval survival was greater in white versus black tanks after 41 days (2% versus l%, respectively). Growth of larvae was impaired in black tanks at low (1.1 mol s–1 m–2) light intensity (0.8% day–1 in standard length and 2.2% day–1 in body area versus 1.1% day 21 in standard length and 3.1% day–1 in body area, for all other treatments). Transmission and reflection of light was low in black tanks at low incident light, and there was very little upwelling light. The resultant poor prey to background contrast probably resulted in larvae being unable to consume sufficient food to sustain a level of growth comparable to that in other treatments.  相似文献

Asian catfish, Clarias batrachus, were fed semi-purified basaldiets containing 0, 0.1, 0.5, 1, 3 and 5 mg biotin kg–1diet for 60 days. Fish fed the control diet (no biotin) showed(P < 0.05) higher mortality, lower weight gain, specificgrowth rate (SGR), feed efficiency ratio (FER) and protein efficiencyratio (PER) than in fish fed diets supplemented with biotin. The highestweight gain, SGR, FER and PER were noticed in fish fed 1 mg biotinkg–1, followed by 0.5, 5, 3 and 0.1 mg biotinkg–1, except for PER (followed by 0.5, 5, 0.1 and 3 mgbiotin kg–1). Quadratic analysis showed that the optimumdietary biotin requirements for maximal weight gain, PER and PER were2.49, 2.54 and 2.52 mg kg–1, respectively. Liver biotinconcentrations were influenced by levels of biotin in the diet.Concentration of liver biotin increased as level of dietarysupplementation increased and no biotin was detected in the liver of thecontrol fish. Liver pyruvate carboxylase and acetyl CoA carboxylaseactivities were higher in fish fed biotin-supplemented diets than incontrols. Biotin concentrations, pyruvate carboxylase and acetyl CoAcarboxylase activities in liver associated with normal growth rangedfrom 10.59 to 10.66 g g–1, 147.97 to 148.18 units mgprotein–1 and 12.76 to 12.78 units mg protein–1, respectively. Biotin deficiency symptoms such as anorexia, darkskin colour and convulsions were observed in fish fed the control diet. The optimum dietary biotin requirement for maximal growth of C.batrachus is about 2.49 mg kg–1 diet.  相似文献

The effects of (ip, 10 injections over 20 days) of melatonin (75 g 100 g–1 BW), the serotonin (5-HT)-synthesis blocker, para-cholorophenylalanine (p-CPA, 10 mg 100g–1 BW) and the catecholamine-synthesis blocker, -methylparatyrosine (-MPT, 10 mg 100 g–1 BW) on gonadotropin (GTH) secretion and ovarian activity were studied in Heteropneustes fossilis during late preparatory to early prespawning (April–May). The treatments resulted in significant reductions of plasma GTH and estradiol-17 levels, the gonadosomatic index, frequency distribution of vitellogenic and postvitellogenic oocytes, and ovarian and serum 32p-labelled alkali-labile phosphoprotein (a marker of vitellogenic activity). Most of the oocytes were nonvitellogenic or had undergone atretic changes. The hepatic 32-phosphoprotein content increased significantly over the saline control value. The effects were similar and pronounced in the p-CPA and melatonin-treated groups but were moderate in the -MPT-treated group. Hypothalamic 5-HT content and turnover were significantly inhibited in the p-CPA and melatonin-treated groups but the content and turnover of catecholamines were not. The -MPT treatment decreased significantly the content and turnover of dopamine (DA), noradrenaline (NA), and adrenaline (A) but did not influence the 5-HT content or turnover. These results suggest that 5-HT, NA and A are stimulatory to GTH secretion and that melatonin may act on the serotonergic system to inhibit the pituitary-gonadal axis.to whom correspondence should be addressed.A part of the results was presented at the International Workshop on Pineal gland: Its molecular signals and published as an abstract in Neuroendocrinol. Effects of the native GnRHs and various agonists have been evaluated on the spawning of an Indian catfish, Heteropneustes fossilis. This study tested salmon (s) GnRH agonists and mammalian (m) GnRH agonists where a D-amino acid residue was substituted alone at position 6 or the C-terminal was modified with ethylamide. GnRH agonists with a combination of these structural modifications were also evaluated separately for their effect on the spawning of the catfish. Native sGnRH, [Pro9 NEt]-sGnRH agonist and chicken (c) GnRH-II exhibited similar activity and induced spawning within 14–18 h at a dose of 100 g kg–1 body weight (BW). [D-Lys6]-sGnRH agonist and [D-Lys6 Pro9 NEt]-sGnRH agonist, induced spawning at a dose of 100 g kg–1 BW and 1 g kg–1 BW, respectively. The most notable observation in this study was the ineffectiveness of [D-Ala6]-mGnRH agonist and [Des Gly10 D-Ala6 Pro9 NEt]-mGnRH agonist. The results obtained suggest that substitution at position 6 alone, and in conjunction with an ethylamide-based modification at the C-terminal in the native sGnRH structure, increases the potency of the tested agonists to induce spawning in the catfish. This study also discusses the potential use and incorporation of cGnRH-II for the development of more generic spawning induction therapies.  相似文献

Soft water acclimated (Ca2+ 0.02 mM; Na+ 0.03 mM; K+ 0.01 mM; pH 7.0), cannulated brown trout (Salmo trutta) were exposed to various pH and aluminium (Al) regimes (pH 7.0, pH 5.0, pH 5.0 plus Al: 50, 25, and 12.5 g l–1) for up to 5 days in order to determine (i) the sublethal concentration of Al at pH 5.0 for this species (ii) their ionoregulatory and respiratory status. No mortality or physiological disturbances were evident at pH 7.0 or pH 5.0. All trout died within 48 h at pH 5.0 in the presence of Al at 50 g l–1 and 67% died over the 5 day period at pH 5.0 in the presence of Al at 25 g l–1. Fish at these lethal Al concentrations showed significant decreases in arterial blood oxygen content (CaO2) but no changes in plasma osmolarity or the concentrations of plasma Na+, K+ and Cl. Physiological disturbance was more marked at the 50 g l–1 Al concentration. The surviving fish at 25 g l–1 showed few signs of physiological recovery while continually exposed to this regime. No fish died during the exposure to water of pH 5.0 containing 12.5 g l–1 Al, but physiological disturbance was still apparent. These sublethally-stressed trout showed a transient decline in the plasma concentrations of Na+ and Cl–1. Although CaO2 decreased, recovery was evident. The data suggest that in the brown trout, environmental Al concentration is as important as pH and calcium concentration in determining the physiological status of the fish.  相似文献

Total lipids, lipid classes and their associated fatty acids were measured in developing eggs, yolksac larvae and starving larvae (from fertilized egg to day 9 after hatch) of the common dentex Dentex dentex (L., 1758). The larvae of common dentex during lecitotrophia and subsequent starvation consumed 1.6 g of total lipid per larvae per day. The overall decrease was mainly due to utilization of the major neutral lipids, TAG and SE (0.5 and 0.6 g larvae–1 day–1, respectively) which was 3.4-fold greater than that of the the major phosphoglycerides (primarily PC by 0.2 g larvae–1 day–1). There was net synthesis/conservation of PE during the first half of the study period before it decreased rapidly (0.2 g larvae–1 day–1) during the second half. PUFAs were principally catabolized (468.6 ng larvae–1 day–1), primarily 22:6(n-3), 20:5(n-3) and 20:4(n-6) (221.8, 58.5 and 12.1 ng larvae–1 day–1, respectively). Saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids were also utilized (227.2 and 256.7 ng larvae–1 day–1, respectively), principally 16:0 and 18:1(n-9) that were both consumed at 149.8 and 156.7 ng larvae–1 day–1, respectively. The rank order of utilization of fatty acids (ng larvae–1 day–1) by D. dentex larvae from total lipids, PC and TAG coincided with the order of abundance of the different fatty acids in the respective lipid fractions. However, in PE, the most abundant fatty acid, DHA, was relatively conserved and 16:0, the second most abundant fatty acid, was catabolized to the greatest extent. D. dentex showed a pattern of lipid metabolism during early development similar to that of marine larval fish from temperate waters whose eggs contain high levels of total lipids, including an oil globule, and which preferentially utilize neutral lipids as the primary energy source.  相似文献

Doppler flow probes were fitted around the ventral aorta of rainbow trout, which were exposed to combinations of pH and aluminum (pH 5.1–6.2, Al 0–80 g l–1) for 60 h. Fish accumulated Al at the gill and exhibited decreased blood Na+, Cl, and Ca2+ concentrations, and increased K+, hematocrit, hemoglobin, glucose, and lactate, indicating increasing ionoregulatory disturbance with increasing Al concentration. Fish exposed to ambient water (6.2) or low-pH (5.3) water without Al exhibited slight reductions in heart rates, as well as increased stroke volume, resulting in little variation in cardiac output. In the presence of Al (20 to 40 g l–1) at low pH (5.1–5.3), fish increased their heart rate slightly and generally maintained their stroke volume, resulting in increased cardiac output in the first two days of exposure. At the highest Al concentration (80 g l–1, pH 5.1), tachycardia was observed, concomitant with a decrease in stroke volume. The ionoregulatory imbalance and resulting increased blood viscosity explain these increases in heart rate rather than stroke volume in fish exposed to high concentrations of Al.  相似文献

Variations in growth and survival of hatchery-reared post-metamorphicjuveniles of great scallop Pecten maximus prompted anexamination of settlement and postlarval development. The effects ofseawater flow and temperature on great scallop metamorphosis andpostlarvae were studied over a 4–5 week period. In allexperiments, and regardless of environmental conditions, great scallopmetamorphosed after a 2–3 week period with values of 35 to70%. Subsequently, spat numbers increased slightly. Spatmortality generally occurred from the third week onward and reachedlevels as high as 30% by the fifth week under standardconditions. At 20 °C, however, 60% mortality levels wererecorded. Differences in spat growth rate, ranging from 37 to 45 mday–1, were noticed at different seawater flow ratesbut no clear tendency could be discerned. Temperature affected spatgrowth with an increase in size from 24 m day–1 at15 °C to 35 m day–1 at 18 °C. Conversely, growth was suppressed at 20 °C (14 m day–1).For optimal metamorphosis and postlarval development in great scallop, aseawater flow of 4.3 L h–1 per sieve and a temperatureof 15 °C are recommended.  相似文献
