OBJECTIVE: To determine whether neurologic examination findings, results of CSF analysis, or age at the onset of seizures could be used to predict whether results of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) would be normal or abnormal in dogs with seizures. DESIGN: Retrospective study. ANIMALS: 115 dogs. PROCEDURE: Information on results of neurologic examination, results of CSF analysis, age at the onset of seizures, and results of MRI was obtained from the medical records. RESULTS: Results of MRI were abnormal in 61 dogs and normal in 54. Sensitivity and specificity of neurologic examination alone were 77 (47/61) and 91% (49/54), respectively. Sensitivity and specificity of CSF analysis alone were 79 (48/61) and 69% (37/54), respectively. Results of MRI were abnormal for 12 of 28 (43%) dogs with abnormal CSF analysis results and normal neurologic examination results but for only 2 of 35 (6%) dogs with normal CSF analysis and normal neurologic examination results. Similarly, results of MRI were abnormal for 36 of 37 (97%) dogs with abnormal CSF analysis and abnormal neurologic examination results but for only 11 of 15 (73%) dogs with normal CSF analysis results and abnormal neurologic examination results. Age at the onset of seizures (< 6 vs > or = 6 years old) was not significantly associated with results of MRI. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Results suggest that neurologic examination findings and results of CSF analysis are useful in predicting whether results of MRI will be abnormal in dogs examined because of seizures, but age at the onset of seizures is not.  相似文献

Dosages for myelography procedures in dogs are based on a hypothetical proportional relationship between bodyweight and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) volume. Anecdotal radiographic evidence and recent studies have challenged the existence of such a defined relationship in dogs. The objectives of this prospective cross‐sectional study were to describe CSF volumes using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in a group of clinically healthy dogs, measure the accuracy of MRI CSF volumes, and compare MRI CSF volumes with dog physical measurements. A sampling perfection with application optimized contrast using different flip‐angle evolution MRI examination of the central nervous system was carried out on 12 healthy, male mongrel dogs, aged between 3 and 5 years with a bodyweight range of 7.5–35.0 kg. The images were processed with image analysis freeware (3D Slicer) in order to calculate the volume of extracranial CSF. Cylindrical phantoms of known volume were included in scans and used to calculate accuracy of MRI volume estimates. The accuracy of MRI volume estimates was 99.8%. Extracranial compartment CSF volumes ranged from 20.21 to 44.06 ml. Overall volume of the extracranial CSF increased linearly with bodyweight, but the proportional volume (ml/bodyweight kilograms) of the extracranial CSF was inversely proportional to bodyweight. Relative ratios of volumes in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbosacral regions were constant. Findings indicated that the current standard method of using body weight to calculate dosages of myelographic contrast agents in dogs may need to be revised.  相似文献

Objective  To present the clinical and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characteristics of sphenoid bone osteomyelitis.
Procedures  Two dogs (English Springer Spaniel – ESS, Golden Retriever – GR) and one cat (Domestic Long Haired) were presented with a 2–14-day history of visual deficits and reduced pupillary light reflexes. Investigations included physical, ophthalmologic and neurological examination as well as hematology, serum biochemistry, MRI of the head and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis.
Results  MRI changes included thickening of the sphenoid bone and a loss of normal bone marrow signal on T1W MRI. Enhancement of the sphenoid bones, ventral meninges and ventral surface of the brain was present using paramagnetic contrast medium. CSF analysis was abnormal in the two dogs with increased cellularity, neutrophilic pleocytosis, intracellular bacteria and increased total protein in one, and with lymphocytic pleocytosis in another. CSF analysis was normal in the cat.
An underlying cause for the osteomyelitis could not be identified. The use of broad-spectrum antibiotics for 3–6 weeks combined with anti-inflammatory medications proved effective. Full clinical recovery occurred with no relapse during the follow up time of 7 (ESS) and 4 (Domestic Long Haired) years. The GR relapsed 10 months after treatment and recovered following a second 3-week course of broad-spectrum antibiotics with no relapse during the following 3 years.
Conclusion  Visual pathway deficits in dogs and cats may be due to sphenoid bone osteomyelitis. MRI and CSF analysis can assist diagnosing this potentially treatable condition. To the authors' knowledge this is the first report of sphenoid bone osteomyelitis in these species.  相似文献

Forty-four dogs were referred to our hospital presenting with neurological symptoms such as seizure or paraparesis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed abnormal results in 21 (abnormal MRI group) and normal results in 23 dogs (normal MRI group). Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) (normal MRI group, n = 22; abnormal MRI group, n = 21) and serum lipid peroxide (LP) concentrations (normal MRI group, n = 11; abnormal MRI group, n = 15) were measured in a number of these dogs, and revealed a significant difference in the CSF/serum LP values (normal MRI group, n = 10; abnormal MRI group, n = 14) between the abnormal and the normal MRI groups (t-test and Mann–Whitney U-test p < 0.05). No other significant differences were observed. CSF/serum LP values exceeding 1.0 were exhibited in 10 of 14 dogs (71%) in the abnormal MRI group, and in 1 of 10 dogs (10%) in the normal MRI group. In the remaining animals, 4 dogs of the abnormal MRI group showed CSF/serum values lower than 1.0, 3 dogs had morphological abnormalities but no abnormal MRI signals in the central nervous system, and 1 dog had an abnormal MRI signal but no pathological abnormality. In the CSF analysis, 3 of 16 dogs (19%) of the abnormal MRI groupshowed abnormal cell counts and/or protein content. We conclude that the CSF/serum LP value can be used for the detection of neurological lesions such as oedema, inflammation and tumour.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effects of intestinal ischemia and reperfusion on the expression of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha and interleukin (IL)-6 mRNAs in the jejunum, liver, and lungs of dogs. ANIMALS: 8 healthy adult Beagles. PROCEDURES: In each dog, the cranial mesenteric artery was occluded for 0 (control group; n=4) or 60 (I-R group; 4) minutes, followed by reperfusion for 480 minutes; serum TNF-alpha and IL-6 activities and expression levels of TNF-alpha and IL-6 mRNAs in jejunal, hepatic, and lung tissues were measured before and at the end of the ischemic period and at intervals during reperfusion. For each variable, values were compared between the control and I-R groups at each time point. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, serum IL-6 activity increased significantly after 180 minutes of reperfusion in the I-R group; also, jejunal TNF-alpha mRNA expression increased significantly after 60 (peak) and 180 minutes of reperfusion. In the I-R group, expressions of IL-6 mRNA in the liver and TNF-alpha and IL-6 mRNAs in the lungs increased significantly at 480 minutes of reperfusion, compared with the control group. Serum TNF-alpha activity, expression of IL-6 mRNA in the jejunum, and expression of TNF-alpha mRNA in the liver in the control and I-R groups did not differ. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Results indicated that the liver, lungs, and jejunum contributed to the production of TNF-alpha and IL-6 after intestinal ischemia and reperfusion in dogs, suggesting that intestinal ischemia and reperfusion induce a systemic proinflammatory cytokine response in dogs.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of ischemic myelopathy have been described in the human literature and in a small number of cases in the veterinary literature. HYPOTHESIS: The aims of this study were to identify associations among MRI findings, timing of imaging, and presenting neurologic deficits in a large series of dogs with a presumptive diagnosis of ischemic myelopathy. ANIMALS AND METHODS: The medical records and MR images of dogs with a presumptive diagnosis of ischemic myelopathy (2000-2006) were reviewed retrospectively. Inclusion criteria were acute onset of nonprogressive and nonpainful myelopathy, 1.5-tesla MRI of the spine performed within 7 days of onset, and complete medical records and follow-up information. Presumptive diagnosis was based on history, as well as clinical, MRI, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) findings. The extent of the lesion on MRI was assessed as the following: (1) the ratio between the length of the hyperintense area on sagittal T2-weighted images and the length of C6 or L2 vertebral body, and (2) the maximal cross-sectional area of the hyperintense area on transverse T2-weighted images as a percentage of cross-sectional area of the spinal cord. RESULTS: Fifty-two dogs met the inclusion criteria. MRI findings were abnormal in 41 dogs and normal in 11 dogs. The presence of MRI abnormalities was not significantly associated with the timing of imaging (P = .3) but was associated with ambulatory status on presentation (P = .04). Severity of signs on presentation was associated with extent of the lesion on MRI (P = .02). CONCLUSION AND CLINICAL IMPORTANCE: The severity of signs on presentation is associated with the presence and the extent of the lesion on MRI.  相似文献

使用环孢霉素A(CSA)滴眼液和妥布霉素地塞米松滴眼液联合用药,对犬高危穿透性角膜移植手术术后进行抗免疫排斥治疗,以探讨其对该手术术后的疗效.选择30只健康本地犬建立犬角膜高危病理模型,继而行穿透性角膜移植手术,术后将试验犬随即分为2组,生理盐水对照组15只,环孢霉素A滴眼液+妥布霉素地塞米松滴眼液组15只,分别于术后第2天进行滴眼治疗,6次/d,2滴/次,用药组进行交替药物滴眼,两次滴眼间隔2h,并对术眼进行眼压测定、组织病理学检查和裂隙灯检查,观察术后各组角膜免疫排斥情况和角膜组织结构情况.试验结果显示,用药组角膜发生免疫排斥的平均时间为49.33±9.61d,生理盐水组角膜发生免疫排斥的平均时间为10.83±2.93d,两组相比差异性极显著(P<0.01).术后第5天测定所有术犬术眼眼压,结果均在正常范围内(10~20 mmHg).生理盐水组角膜组织结构发生了严重的变化和破坏,随着时间的推移呈严重发展趋势,用药组整个观察期角膜组织结构未发生明显变化.  相似文献

Background: Central nervous system (CNS) manifestations of hypothyroidism have been associated with cerebrovascular complications. Reports of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) abnormalities are rare in hypothyroid dogs. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine if chronic hypothyroidism causes blood–brain‐barrier (BBB) abnormalities that are detectable using indirect CSF biomarkers. Methods: The study included 18 normal, euthyroid, female mixed‐breed dogs. Hypothyroidism was induced by 131iodine administration in 9 dogs; 9 served as untreated controls. Evaluations included physical and neurologic examination, complete CSF analysis, serum and CSF protein electrophoresis, measurement of plasma vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and serum S‐100B concentrations, and calculation of CSF albumin quota (AQ) and were conducted at baseline and 6, 12, and 18 months after induction of hypothyroidism. Data were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA. Results: At baseline, differences between groups were not detected for any variable. Throughout the study, controls dogs remained free of neurologic disease and had test variables that remained within reference intervals. Two hypothyroid dogs developed CNS signs during the study, and evidence of cerebrovascular disease was found at necropsy. At 12 and 18 months, the CSF total protein, VEGF, S‐100B, and fractional albumin concentrations, and AQ were significantly higher (P<.04) in hypothyroid dogs than controls. Among test variables assayed in serum or plasma, the only significant difference was a higher S‐100B concentration in hypothyroid dogs (P=.003) at 18 months. Conclusions: BBB integrity is disrupted in chronic hypothyroidism. Significant increases in CSF concentrations of VEGF and S100‐B in hypothyroid dogs indicate dysfunction in both endothelial and glial elements of the BBB.  相似文献

The efficacy of thyroid hormone replacement therapy (THRT) as treatment for owner-directed aggression in client-owned dogs with borderline low thyroid hormone levels was evaluated by means of a 6-week-long, parallel design, double-blind placebo-controlled study. The designation of “borderline hypothyroid” was made if the dog's free normal thyroxine (T4) value was frankly low or in the bottom 20th percentile of the normal range and either total T4, total triiodothyronine (T3), or free T3 was frankly low or in the bottom 30th percentile of the normal range. The presence of thyroid autoantibodies also qualified a dog for enrollment. Owners recorded the number of aggressive episodes directed toward family members on a daily basis for 8 weeks (2-week baseline phase and 6-week study phase). Twenty-nine dogs completed the study; 14 in a treatment group and 15 in a placebo group. The median number of aggressive episodes per day decreased significantly from baseline in both treated and placebo group dogs in weeks 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, and week 6 (treatment, χ2 = 24.8, P < 0.001; placebo, χ2 = 20.2, P < 0.001), however the median frequency of aggression was significantly lower in the treatment group (1.21 episodes/day) than in the placebo group (1.71 episodes/day) during week 6 of the study (χ2 = 4.047, P = 0.044). Three thyroxine-treated dogs had borderline-low thyroid levels on the final day of the study (day 42). When aggression frequency was compared between the treatment and placebo groups after the removal of 3 thyroxine-treated dogs, the treatment group did not have a significantly lower aggression frequency than the placebo group during week 6 (Kruskal–Wallis statistic: χ2 = 3.035, n = 26, P = 0.08). The authors discuss the role of thyroid hormones in the regulation of aggression and other cognitive issues and provide rationale for using THRT in dogs exhibiting owner-directed aggression that also have low normal or baseline thyroid hormone levels.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To develop and compare 3 techniques for retrobulbar injection of local anesthetic agents for ocular surgery and analgesia in dogs. DESIGN: Prospective study. ANIMALS: 17 dogs (including 9 cadavers). PROCEDURES: Inferior-temporal palpebral (ITP), perimandibular, and combined superior-inferior peribulbar injection techniques were compared by assessing the distribution of latex after injection into the orbits of 5 canine cadavers; magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) evaluation of the distribution of contrast agent after injection in the retrobulbar space of 4 canine cadavers; and assessment of the efficacy and MRI evaluation of the anatomic distribution of injections of a lidocainecontrast agent mixture in 4 anesthetized, nonrecovery dogs. By use of the preferred technique (ITP), the ocular effects of lidocaine anesthesia were evaluated in 4 dogs; during a 2-week period after treatment, dogs underwent ophthalmic examination, Schirmer tear testing (STT), intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement, and Cochet-Bonnet esthesiometry. RESULTS: Of the 3 techniques, the ITP technique was the preferred method for retrobulbar administration of anesthetic agent in dogs because it was efficacious (pupil dilation and central rotation of the globe achieved in all eyes), easiest to perform, and provided thorough coverage of the intraconal retrobulbar space without complication. During the 2-week follow-up period, the ITP injection did not significantly affect STT, IOP, or Cochet-Bonnet esthesiometry values in dogs. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: In dogs, retrobulbar administration of anesthetic agents via the ITP technique is a potential alternative to systemic administration of neuromuscular blocking agents for ophthalmic surgery and provides the additional benefit of local ocular analgesia.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether small intestinal ischemia and reperfusion induces bacterial translocation and proinflammatory cytokine response in either the systemic or portal circulation in dogs. ANIMALS: 17 healthy adult Beagles. PROCEDURE: The superior mesenteric artery (SMA) was occluded for 0 (group-3 dogs), 30 (group-1 dogs), or 60 (group-2 dogs) minutes, followed by reperfusion for 180 minutes; serum lactate and endotoxin concentrations and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta), and IL-6 activities in the systemic and portal circulation and intramucosal pH were measured at various time points. RESULTS: In group-2 dogs, TNFalpha activity was found to be significantly increased in the portal circulation, peaking at 60 minutes of reperfusion; TNF-alpha activity, in the systemic circulation, gradually increased from 60 minutes of reperfusion to the end of the experiment; however, the increase was not significant. In group-1 and -2 dogs, IL-6 activities significantly and gradually increased in the systemic and portal circulation during the reperfusion phase, and the magnitude of these increases was dependent on the duration of the ischemic phase. There were no significant changes in IL-1beta activity or endotoxin concentration in any dog group. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Results of the our study indicate that intestinal ischemia and reperfusion leads to significant increases of the circulating TNF-alpha and IL-6 activities, depending on the duration of the ischemia phase, in the absence of detectable endotoxin in the circulation. This finding suggests that intestinal ischemia and reperfusion induces a systemic proinflammatory cytokine response in dogs.  相似文献

【目的】 探究硫化氢(H2S)对顺铂诱导的犬急性肾损伤(AKI)的影响。【方法】 将18只健康成年比格犬随机分为对照组(C)、顺铂组(cis)和硫化氢+顺铂组(H+cis),每组6只。对照组犬经头静脉注射生理盐水,cis组犬经头静脉注射5 mg/kg顺铂,H+cis组犬在注射顺铂前30 min经头静脉注射1 mg/kg NaHS溶液,每隔24 h注射1次,一共3次。注射顺铂72 h后对犬进行麻醉,静脉采血用于检测血清肌酐(Scr)和尿素氮(BUN),HE染色观察各组肾脏病理变化,生化试剂盒检测犬肾脏中谷胱甘肽(GSH)、过氧化氢(H2O2)和一氧化氮(NO)含量,实时荧光定量PCR和Western blotting法检测犬肾脏中白介素-1β(IL-1β)、IL-10、肿瘤坏死因子-α(TNF-α)、核因子-κB (NF-κB)、环氧合酶2(COX2)、诱导型一氧化氮合成酶(iNOS)、IL-6、IL-4的相对表达量。【结果】 cis组Scr和BUN水平极显著高于对照组(P<0.01),H+cis组Scr和Bun水平极显著低于cis组(P<0.01)。病理检测结果显示,cis组犬肾脏组织发生明显病理学变化,而H+cis组犬肾脏组织病理变化有所减轻。生化检测结果表明,与C组相比,cis组肾脏中GSH含量极显著下降(P<0.01),H2O2和NO含量极显著增加(P<0.01);与cis组相比,H+cis组犬肾脏中GSH含量极显著上升(P<0.01),而H2O2和NO含量极显著下降(P<0.01)。实时荧光定量PCR和Western blotting检测结果表明,与C组相比,cis组促炎因子IL-1β、IL-6、TNF-α、NF-κB和COX2的mRNA和蛋白相对表达量均显著或极显著升高(P<0.05;P<0.01),而抗炎因子IL-4和IL-10的mRNA和蛋白相对表达量均极显著下降(P<0.01);与cis组相比,H+cis组犬肾脏中抗炎因子IL-4和IL-10的mRNA及蛋白表达量极显著升高(P<0.01),而促炎因子IL-β、IL-6、TNF-α、NF-κB和COX2的mRNA及蛋白相对表达量均极显著下降(P<0.01)。【结论】 H2S通过提高肾脏抗氧化能力,抑制炎症因子表达来改善顺铂诱导的犬AKI。  相似文献

This study was conducted to identify the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and efficacy of intralesional injection as a method of application to acute cutaneous wounds in dogs. Healthy adult beagles (n = 3) were used in this study. Autologous PRP was separated from anticoagulant treated whole blood in three dogs. Cutaneous wounds were created and then treated by intralesional injection of PRP in the experimental group, while they were treated with saline in the control group on days 0, 2 and 4. The healing process was evaluated by gross examination throughout the experimental period and histologic examination on day 7, 14 and 21. In PRP treated wounds, the mean diameter was smaller and the wound closure rate was higher than in the control. Histological study revealed that PRP treated wounds showed more granulation formation and angiogenesis on day 7, and faster epithelialization, more granulation formation and collagen deposition were observed on day 14 than in control wounds. On day 21, collagen deposition and epithelialization were enhanced in PRP treated groups. Overall, PRP application showed beneficial effects in wound healing, and intralesional injection was useful for application of PRP and could be a good therapeutic option for wound management in dogs.  相似文献

A double-blind study, using metrizamide, iohexol, or Ringer's solution (control) as cisternal myelographic agents, was performed on 25 dogs. Before myelographic examination was done, each dog was subjected to physical, clinical pathologic, and neurologic examinations, as well as examinations by electroencephalography and computerized tomography. These were repeated 24 hours after completion of the myelographic examination. The group of dogs given metrizamide (group II) had a significantly greater occurrence of seizure activity (6 of 10) than did the control dogs (group I; 0 of 5) or dogs given iohexol (group III; 0 of 10; P less than 0.003). In group II, the CSF microprotein concentration was significantly greater 24 hours after myelography was done than were the values in groups I and III (P less than 0.003). Myelograms of the group II dogs (metrizamide) and group III dogs (iohexol) had similar diagnostic qualities. At 24 hours after myelographic examination was done, computerized tomography scan revealed that each dog given metrizamide and iohexol had myelographic contrast material in the brain and cervical spinal cord parenchyma. Seemingly, iohexol has good diagnostic quality, but is less epileptogenic than metrizamide when used in cervical myelographic examinations of dogs.  相似文献

The cases of 7 adult dogs with generalized seizures managed by surgical excision and radiation therapy for frontal lobe meningiomas were reviewed. The neurological examination was unremarkable in 6 of the 7 dogs. Five dogs were operated on using a bilateral transfrontal sinus approach and 2 using a unilateral sinotemporal approach to the frontal lobe. One dog was euthanized 14 d after surgery; radiation therapy was initiated 3 wk after surgery in the remaining 6 dogs. Long-term follow-up consisted of neurological examination and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and/or computed tomography (CT) scan after radiation therapy. The mean survival time for dogs that had surgery and radiation therapy was 18 mo after surgery. Frontal lobe meningiomas have been associated with poor prognosis. However, the surgical approaches used in these cases, combined with radiation therapy, allow a survival rate for frontal lobe meningiomas similar to that for meningiomas located over the cerebral convexities.  相似文献

Background: Choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) comprise approximately 10% of all primary brain tumors in dogs. The clinical utility of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis, or both in the presumptive diagnosis of CPTs has not been determined.
Objectives: To report MRI and CSF findings in dogs with CPT and determine if there are distinguishing features that allow clinical discrimination between the tumor grades.
Animals: Fifty-six client-owned dogs with naturally occurring CPT.
Methods: Retrospective case series. The inclusion criterion was histologically confirmed CPT. Blinded review of cranial MRI and cisternal CSF analysis was performed.
Results: Thirty-six of 56 dogs had a choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC) and 20 had a choroid plexus papilloma (CPP). Golden Retrievers were overrepresented compared with the hospital population (frequency 3.7 times that expected, confidence interval 95%= 2.0–6.7, P < .0002). Median CSF protein concentration in CPCs (108 mg/dL, range 27–380 mg/dL) was significantly higher than in CPPs (34 mg/dL, range 32–80 mg/dL) ( P = .002). Only dogs with CPCs had a CSF protein concentration >80 mg/dL. Cytological evidence of malignancy in CSF was seen in 7 of 15 CPCs. Only CPCs had evidence of intraventricular or subarachnoid metastases on MRI.
Conclusions and Clinical Importance: MRI, CSF analysis or both can help to differentiate between CPPs and CPCs, and may provide valuable prognostic and pretreatment information.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Sepsis is still a major cause of death in both human and veterinary medicine. Early diagnosis is essential for appropriate treatment. Identification of patients at risk for developing sepsis is already possible in human medicine through the measurement of plasma interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels. In veterinary medicine, however, this has been investigated only in canine experimental models. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to measure IL-6 plasma levels in dogs with naturally occurring systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and sepsis and to analyze the value of IL-6 as a predictive parameter for severity and mortality. METHODS: Included in the study were 79 dogs that had been admitted to the small animal clinics of Munich and Berlin from July 2004 to July 2005 and that satisfied the diagnostic criteria for SIRS and sepsis as defined using established parameters. Measurement of plasma IL-6 levels on days 0, 1, and 2 was performed by the use of a colorimetric bioassay based on IL-6-dependent cell growth. RESULTS: Septic foci were identified in 43 patients (septic group), and 36 patients were enrolled in the SIRS group. The frequency of positive blood cultures was 11%. The overall mortality rate was 48%. Higher plasma IL-6 levels on the day of admission were significantly correlated with a more severe degree of disease, increased mortality rate, and earlier fatality. CONCLUSIONS: Plasma IL-6 concentration is predictive of outcome in canine SIRS and sepsis and may be a valuable laboratory parameter for assessing critically ill dogs.  相似文献

Objective— To describe the influence of fenestration at the disc herniation site on recurrence in thoracolumbar disc disease of chondrodystrophoid dogs.
Study Design— Prospective clinical study.
Animals— Chondrodystrophic dogs (n=19).
Methods— Dogs were divided into 2 groups: group 1 (9 dogs) had thoracolumbar disc extrusion (Hansen type I) treated by hemilaminectomy and concomitant fenestration of the affected intervertebral disc and group 2 (10 dogs) had hemilaminectomy without fenestration. All dogs had 3 magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations: preoperatively, immediately postoperatively to assess removal of herniated disc material, and again 6 weeks after surgery.
Results— There were 13 male and 6 female dogs; mean age, 7.1 years. Thoracolumbar disc herniation was confirmed with MRI. Immediate post surgical MRI revealed that the herniated disc removal was complete in all but 1 dog and that fenestration did not lead to complete removal of nucleus pulposus within the intervertebral disc space. On the 3rd MRI examination, none of the group 1 dogs had further disc material herniation at the fenestrated site. Six of the 10 group 2 dogs had a recurrence of herniation leading to clinical signs in 3 dogs (pain in 2 dogs, paresis in 1 dog).
Conclusion— In thoracolumbar disc herniation, fenestration of the affected intervertebral disc space prevents further extrusion of disc material.
Clinical Relevance— Fenestration reduces the risk of early recurrence of disc herniation and associated postoperative complications.  相似文献

Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H MRS) provides in vivo biochemical information on tissue metabolites. The purpose of this study was to investigate the serial metabolic changes of 1H MRS in the cerebrum of ischemic dogs. An ischemic stroke was induced in five health laboratory beagle dogs by permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion using a silicone plug. 1H MRS was serially performed three times with a 1.5-T MR system: before, three days after and 10 days after the stroke. Immunohistochemical staining was performed to determine the expression of neuronal nuclei (NeuN) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) at both the ipsilateral and contralateral cerebral cortex. Reduced levels of N-acetyl-asparate (p < 0.05), choline (Cho), creatine (Cr) and myo-inositol (mI), and a marked increase in the lactate (Lac) level (p < 0.01) were found at three days after the stroke. At 10 days after the stroke, the levels of Lac significantly increased (p < 0.01); however, the other metabolites were partially elevated. The changes of Cr, Cho and mI were not statistically significant (p > 0.05) when the before and after stroke values were compared. There was a significant loss of NeuN and GFAP immunoreactivity at the ischemic core. 1H MRS may be to a useful diagnostic tool for the evaluation of ischemic stroke in dogs.  相似文献

Cerebral cortical laminar necrosis (CLN) is a consequence of severe hypoxic, ischemic, or hypoglycemic events. In humans, these cortical lesions show characteristic linear T1‐weighted (T1W) hyperintensity in the late subacute stage. Limited information reporting magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings in dogs affected by CLN is available. A 3‐year‐old Belgian Shepherd dog was referred 8 days after sudden onset of blindness after general anesthesia. Neurological examination showed central blindness and mild ataxia. Three‐Tesla MRI examination of the brain revealed bilateral asymmetrical areas of T2‐weighted hyperintensity within the occipital, parietal, temporal, and frontal cortex, involving gray and white matter. Furthermore, linear T1W‐hyperintense lesions were found in the cerebral cortex of the same areas and showed heterogeneous contrast enhancement. Perfusion‐weighted images revealed hyperperfusion in the affected regions. Lesions were compatible with subacute CLN with corresponding edema suspected to be secondary to anesthesia‐related brain hypoxia. Three‐Tesla MRI enabled identification of the laminar pattern of the cortical lesions.  相似文献
